Long story short, the tree crashed into me while I was skiing. rofl
The injury itself is on the left side. The area is roughly above the stomach and below the lung. There is a prominent bump. First x-ray said it was 2 fractures. Second said it was fine. The whole doctor crap was messy. I don't care so much about the diagnosis anymore since the recovery for a sprained or broken rib seems to be the same. The accident took place 4 weeks ago.
I attempted a full on work out with weights last week (stupid me) and pretty much broke down in tears because of what I cannot do. Would you guys advise against ANY core exercises or should I just proceed with caution? And if it's okay, what specific exercises do you think I should try? (Feel free to shout out random suggestions, I'll tailor the more painful ones to what I can withstand.)
Here are my current capabilities. All limits are due to pain, not muscle soreness unless I say so: - 40lbs barbell deadlift (used to be 80; the barbell also needs to be on a platform right now). - Squats are fine for some reason though. - Plank for 1 minute. - Tornado bulgarian split squat 5lbs, starts hurting at 8 reps and not much "tornado" going on. - 20lbs straight legged deadlift, I can bow probably down to 45 degrees. Pffftt.... - 10lbs rows with abnormal back soreness throughout. - I'm scared of doing flies right now....
Don't really remember the rest since my log is at the gym. Oh, and I can't do crunches or pull-ups at all.

What about swimming. Shadow boxing in water is effective training.

keitolla What about swimming. Shadow boxing in water is effective training. That sounds like a great idea. I recently checked in with my physiotherapist and she gave the "OK" for this. Thanks.

i would think that anything that follows the natural movement of your body so long as you arent putting too much strain onto your injury. though i never broken a rib before i have been told it is one of the worst.
but just from what i learned by body movement if it doesnt feel right it probley isnt right

It's a good reminder though. @ myhorrorshow: It's mostly a pain in the a** than much of real pain (except for the first few days). It heals the slowest because your ribs are constantly moving from breathing, while other broken bones can be immobilized in some way.

Recovering, slowly but surely!
I'm swimming every evening, which seems to be helping. I also went to the gym yesterday after another long hiatus since the last time turned me into a crying heap over what I couldn't do.
The gym director has forbidden me from going above 20lbs in deadlifts, any bulgarian split squats or T-spine mobility. gonk
