The dictionary defines one as "a blood-sucking ghost; a soul of a dead person superstitiously believed to come from the grave and wander about by night sucking the blood of persons asleep, thus causing their death. The vampire was often said to have the ability to transform itself into the form of a bat, as presented in the novel depicting the legend of Dracula published by Bram Stoker in 1897, which has inspired several movies." [1913 Webster + PJC]
But little do people know that there is a small degree of truth to this so thought fictitious monster of the night. They do suck your blood. But, they do not come from the grave unless a vampire has been sloppy and carelessly sired a newblood by accident. There is no turning into bats, though some can control them. And, well you'd travel by night too if you couldn't stand the sunlight. Unfortunately, that's what changing species can do to you. The point is vampires are very much real, and they always have been.
Ever since the dawn of time, vampires have either hunted humans mercilessly, or tried to protect them from becoming an endangered species. Unfortunately, over the years vampires have become pretty endangered themselves. As time wears on, humans find that the luster of immortality is losing its shine, and they do not want to become vampires. But still, there are those few that do, and those few that have no choice. It's all done with the simple trading of toxins and blood. Then you die and for a few painful moments (or hours, depending on the person) your body changes into that of a vampire. Suddenly you're a brand new fledgling and you start aging ten years for every thousand.
The problem now though, is that someone's decided that the vampires should rule the humans. After all, in the eyes of some, mortals are just cattle to be priced, bought, and eaten. While this is fine and dandy in their eyes, to a wiser vampire it spells trouble with a capital T R O U B L E. The COO (Council of Others, you didn't think it was just vampires, did you?) agrees, and they want the one who's causing trouble taken out immediately. It's up to other vampire clans to find the culprits and deal with them accordingly.
There's only one question left.
Will you help bring them down?

[ [ Tomorrow I'll be there my friend... ] ] Nobody knows. Nobody knows but me, That I sometimes cry. If I could pretend that I'm asleep, When my tears start to fall, I peek out from behind these walls. I think nobody knows. Nobody knows no. Elizabeth walked down the street quietly, her hands hooked through the straps of her backpack. Inside was a special case of blood bags for her and her coven. It was the most humane way for them to get blood without having to resort to the less nutritious animal blood. It was a disgusting thought. She frowned lightly as she stared at the shadows ahead of her. That thought was more than disgusting. She knew that she and her darlings wouldn't be able to stomach that kind of thing. It was true that human blood spoiled a vampire like candy did children. She couldn't let that kind of thing get to her though. She'd put it off as nutritional reasons.
"Little to do with nutrition, but hey... A good excuse is a good excuse." She sighed and kicked a rock. She tilted her head and peered into shadows again. She could have sworn that there was something there for a split second. Maybe not though, even a vampire with superior eyesight could make a mistake. And shadows were tricky. They could move of their own accord if you believed it, at least that what Tyler said.
"Thinking of Tyler..." She picked up her pace. She wondered how they were all doing. She knew that Tyler and Garrett were on the outs... again. It had been like that for months and she still didn't understand much of why. Though she thought it had something to do with Garrett's little brother, Joel. She secretly wondered if Joel and Tyler had found out about one another's secret wishes. A grin flicked across her face. "One can only hope..." Nobody knows. Nobody knows the rhythm of my heart, The way I do when I'm lying in the dark, And the world is asleep. I think nobody knows. Nobody knows, Nobody knows but me. Me. {{He wears his heart safety pinned to his backpack. His backpack is all that he knows...}} All alone he turns to stone, While holding his breath half to death. Terrified of what's inside, To save his life, He crawls like a worm from a bird! (ALL ALONE!) Crawls like a worm from a bird!Aric chewed on the inside of his cheek for a moment. He had quietly followed Elizabeth for quite some time now back to her Coven and the other vampires she had mentioned. He remembered her from his travels to town and she was one of the few who were kind to him and didn't ask any questions about himself.
However, his cover was nearly blown. He quickly ducked behind a tree as Elizabeth peered into the darkness. He held his breath for a moment but realized then he no longer breathed anyhow. At least, not for some years now. Aric relaxed for a moment and peeked back out from the safety of the tree. She had gone on.
Aric sighed with relief and continued to follow Elizabeth. He unfortunately had drawn too close to her and within ear distance of one another.
"Hope for what...?" He quietly asked from behind her.{{Shot down by strangers Whose glances can cripple the heart and devour the soul.}} All he knows... If he can't relieve it, it grows.... And so it goes... He crawls like a worm, Crawls like a worm from a bird!

You startled me." She looked away. If she'd been full she'd have blushed. As it were, she was carrying home dinner. For that, she was thankful. She tilted her head and shifted. She knew Aric okay, but she hadn't really gotten to know him as well as she'd like.
"Well, you see... there was a disturbance at the house. I'm hoping that certain people have sorted out their differences by now. Though... I'm not counting on it." She sighed slightly. She knew that once the boys got going, it was hard to keep them from fighting until they'd settled it themselves. It'd been like that for a while now. It was hard to believe that it'd been such a short time compared to her near one hundred and five years.
"Boys will be boys, I guess." She shrugged and smiled, continuing on her way. Nobody knows. Nobody knows the rhythm of my heart, The way I do when I'm lying in the dark, And the world is asleep. Avarielle shifted positions as she waited for Elizabeth. Elizabeth was one of the few that were still considered to be of righteousness in the area. The rest had either left or become loners. Tyler, Cayden, and Connor stood near by waiting on her directions. She was usually lenient until it came down to being out. They were all quite young compared to her. Still learning. Her clan would always be the 'snobish' type to other vampires that didn't know Ava. But she knew that the ones who did knew her and her coven to be quite respectable. She was commonly known for clean up of the new vampire mistakes. She reached over to the closest of her three underlings, Cayden. Slowly, she ran her fingers through his shoulder length blonde hair. "Where is that girl.." she said out loud, but more to herself.
Cayden's eyes shifted to her, studying her face softly. "Should we move towards her? I sense she is near." He didn't move, only waited for her approval. He had been near her the longest. Tyler had been the first replacement to Ava's clan. And Connor the next. At first, Cayden had been slightly resentful, but Ava had calmed him and eased him into the change quickly. She wouldn't allow him to be in discomfort. She openly admitted he was her favorite. He had been here the longest and knew her better than the others. Though, he had gotten decently close to the others, he did miss his siblings terribly.
"I, too, sense this. I suppose it couldn't hurt." She pushed off the wall she had been leaning against and began walking swiftly down the street. It wasn't long before she spotted the other female vampire, but oddly she was with another. She had thought the feeling was a bit stronger. She wasn't quite expecting two, but she wouldn't let this bother her much. The younger males moved to her flanks, and Cayden moved in front of her. He walked at the same pace, only four to five feet ahead of her. Her lips stayed straight, an indifferent look upon her face as she approached the two. "Lizzie." her voice was soft, yet carried easily to the the others.

What a pleasant surprise. What can I do for you?" She asked as she walked toward them. She knew that they didn't prefer the company of outsiders. She wondered just what could have caused them to come all the way out here to see her. This caused a slight frown to pass over her face. It was going to take longer to get dinner on the table now.
"I hope you don't mind coming with me. I have some hungry companions at home. They're quite agitated and I don't want to spur their annoyance any further." She said softly as she looked from Cayden to Ava, to Tyler and Connor. She tilted her head almost imperceptibly and kept walking, moving past them. She motioned for Aric to follow if he so pleased.
"I do assume there was something you needed, Avarielle?" She asked, glancing over her shoulder. She didn't like the impassive look on the other female's face. She also didn't like being one of two females in a group of six vampires. It was rather uncomfortable. Nobody knows. Nobody knows the rhythm of my heart, The way I do when I'm lying in the dark, And the world is asleep. I think nobody knows. Nobody knows, Nobody knows but me. Me. Ava, without the slightest of hesitations, followed the other female. She was rather put off talking in front of someone she wasn't so familiar with. "Ah. How are the youths?" She, of course, was referring to the ones waiting for their dinner. She was hadn't heard much of them in a few years, which of course didn't seem long to her anymore. "Oh, yes. Directly to the point, I suppose. You have heard of the recent news? I've been sent to clean up after a lot of mess, recently." She glanced over to the unknown male, but returned her eyes to Cayden, the one that led her faithfully down the street. Her arm reached to her side, curling into Connor's arm and pulling him closer. He obeyed, no resistance from him at all. "Usually, this would be evidence of a fresh vampire attempting their first clan."
However brief it was, a flash of memory returned to her. She knew that Cayden would have the same sudden thought. He was so good to her, even after all they had been through. The loss of Kaleb and Cadence was enough to push anyone from her, but Cayden only held tighter to her. She let her eyes linger for a while on his back, his lengthy hair hardly moving as he stepped briskly through the streets ahead of the five vampires. He was so good to her. She glanced to her side, trying to catch Elizabeth's feel for her words.

[ [ Tomorrow I'll be there my friend... ] ] Nobody knows. Nobody knows but me, That I sometimes cry. If I could pretend that I'm asleep, When my tears start to fall, I peek out from behind these walls. I think nobody knows. Nobody knows no. Elizabeth threw up a mental wall. She was fortunate enough to only lose one. Brian had gone feral against her best attempts to keep him sane. She'd had to clean up her own mess. She nodded. "Alright. But something tells me that you don't think so?" She turned to look at Ava as they neared her home. Liz's eyes were guarded even though she tried to look impassive. She picked up her pace as they reached the steps.
"Do come in and make yourselves comfortable." She said as she let herself in. The house was oddly quiet, but she did fancy she heard a rhythmic banging on a wall upstairs. "Seems like they've all had it out for the moment." She said softly as she walked into the dining room, through it, and into the kitchen. She set the backpack on the counter and pulled out the heater/cooler thing. She made sure it was accessible, then left the kitchen and headed for the stairs.
"Dinner's in the kitchen, you six!" She called up them. She then gestured to the den where the curtains had been opened to look out onto the front porch and the expanse of yard beyond it. "Have a seat, would you like something to drink?" Her tone was almost teasing. Nobody knows. Nobody knows the rhythm of my heart, The way I do when I'm lying in the dark, And the world is asleep. She almost frowned, fighting off the loss of her beloved Kaleb. Cadence... Was the right thing to do. She remembered how it felt to snap the neck and rip the flesh. The scent of burning vampire as she waited quietly, solemnly in the flickering light of the flames. She never regretted that decision. Cayden wasn't around to see it, but he had known. As if he had watched her, judged her as she did it. The memory was shoved aside as she heard Liz question her. She didn't respond so quickly, but instead let her facts linger in the air as her clan drifted into Elizabeth's well kept home. She noted the silence.
Her three stayed close to her, a strong guard she surrounded herself with at all times. It wasn't as if she was special from other vampires, just that she was always suspicious and on her toes. She was skilled at what she did for her community, cleaning the messes of others. She had done it long enough to know the routine and the patterns. "You know well the patterns of new vampires. And this... new pattern is as if there are multiple beginning clans. Not just one." She Shook her head as she followed the female into the living area, a nice view through the windows.
She shook her head and settled in a stance adjacent the door. Her three males each formed around her, a loose circle around her. They seemed to no longer take a protection formation, but a more comfortable one. "Might you have any personal thoughts?"
Tyler had been around long enough to know that Elizabeth was no threat, nor were her other clan members. The one unfamiliar male was hadn't given off any offensive mannerisms yet either, so Tyler thought it quite safe to relax a bit and sit on the floor, a few feet away from Ava. The clan had talked enough about these clues that he knew where Ava was heading with this. She had been trying to convince the Council of her suspicions for what seemed like ages. The patterns just weren't that usual. Too much. He knew from being the one that cleaned up with Ava. They were good at what they did. No humans need know of the creatures that wandered through society. It would be more trouble than its worth. It was hard enough keeping the blood banks going with all the diseases running around. He grunted softly, looking up at Ava affectionately.
