Give the dude the bird! Enough said!
Well, at least if you've got Fearow....
Flaafy came in handy as well against his Poliwrath.
Butterfree had Psybeam and also a x4 type advantage against fighting types, but don't use it against the first gym trainer. He's got a Hitmonchan who knows elemental punches, all of which don't do this bug any good.
But Butterfree is a good stall pokemon against the others if you must heal yours.
That said, it took one try and a very easy one at that to bring down this Gym.
Final note: If you have a Kadabra or Alakazam on your team, you don't need any of my above advice. In past games, ALL of them, I always had either Alakazam or Gardevoir as part of my team. I wanted to do something different this time!
Drowzee might work, but he's awfully slow....

Didn't really have a strategy, just used Growlithe, Ampharos, and Feraligatr. All level 30+. (I took too much time levelling my Pokemon up equally. xD; ) Only one try again. Watch out for Hypnosis, it's how Chuck gets Focus Punch so often. I:

Made some bad judgement calls on which moves to use at the right time so Chinchou and Sunflora fainted from poliwrath but Ariados finished Poliwrath and Primeape with psychic easily. One time through this Gym.
