Hello Everyone! Please use this post to post your stories about challenging the Ecruteak City Gym the Ghost (and Poison) Type Gym. Please say which pokemon you used, How many times it might have taken to beat the gym leader, anything else interesting that might have happen, and any tips you might have for defeating the Gym Leader.

Two big recommendations here based on what I faced, 'cuz it took two attempts to beat Morty.

Crocanaw has Bite, but he's not as fast as Fearow who has Persuit. Also Gengar's Defense is...really lousy. Fearow's speed plus Ariel Ace = ace in the hole.

Throw in Flaafy who might not Thundershock a lot of damage but who's Special Ability is Static and also knows Thunder Wave to put a crimp in things.

Third, I learned long ago that you can easily turn Curse back on the Ghost. Swap out and he's down half his HP, or if he's slapped you with Mean Look first, make sure your current or Lead pokemon has a high attack that can take down the rest of his HP in one shot. Fearow is again your best option at this point.

I love that bird in the early game.

My Feraligatr and Growlithe both knew Bite.
Bring lots of Awakening. Srsly. <<
Only took one try because I had the two Pokemon that were fairly levelled and knew a Dark-type attack.

What I wasn't sure to expect out of Morty was the level of his pokemon, so I was a bit surprised by his Gengar so I started over. Putting Fearow at the top took out the Haunter instantly and a swap by Flaafy paralyzed Gengar long enough for me to swap her out and Fearow back in. Two Ariel Aces and he was done.

It is, however, too bad that I didn't run into Growlithe early on. He'd have made a superb member of my team at that point. I still lack a good fire pokemon. ninja

It was one of the easiest. I thought that battle will be hard, but I did that in 5-8 minutes. I used Hoothoot (lvl 21), Quilava (lvl 25) and Flaaffy (lvl 23). Peck + Flame wheel + Thundershock. And Hoothoot couldn't sleep, so I didn't need awakenings.

After this battle Hoothoot evolved.
