~Lord of Nightmares~

The Lord of Nightmares (Japanese: 金色の魔王 Golden Devil, nickname L様 L-sama, LON, true name Lucifer) is the creator and essence of the four worlds described and chronicled in Slayers. When she takes human form, it is usually in the body of a young, blonde-haired woman. She is neither a mazoku nor a shinzoku, and cannot be classified into such narrow terms. In Slayers NEXT she is voiced by Megumi Hayashibara in Japanese and by Lisa Ortiz in English.

Her true form is the Sea of Chaos, an infinite golden lagoon made of chaos, or nothingness.

The Lord of Nightmares is omniscient, as everything in the worlds are made of her. In an interview with the Mega Brand Project in BLASTER!, Hajime Kanzaka stated that the Lord of Nightmares desires the worlds to be destroyed and returned to the Sea of Chaos. According to him, this is because she feels lonely and wants them to be a part of her again. In truth, the Lord of Nightmares did not knowingly create the worlds; they were suddenly there, spawned from her without her consent. However, this statement of Kanzaka's appears to contradict the Lord of Nightmares' behavior in the last episode of NEXT or the manga version of the same storyline. Though, given the jovial pretext from Kanzaka, it is possible that he was being facetious about the Lord of Nightmare's loneliness.

She is not capable of being injured or destroyed, as nothing could ever be more powerful than her.

Two known spells call upon the Lord of Nightmares's power, being Giga Slave and Ragna Blade. While Giga Slave is ultimately more powerful, calling upon a greater chunk of LON's power, Ragna Blade is also very powerful and drains great deals of energy from the user.

Using Giga Slave and Ragna Blade carry risk, as in both instances, the user's energy is swiftly depleted to keep the spells intact and at a useable power. Giga Slave, if casted incorrectly or with interruption, will most certainly cause LON to be directly channeled into the user, possessing him or her and potentially destroying the entire world. This happened to Lina Inverse in Slayers NEXT, but LON restricted her power to destroying Hellmaster Fibrizo, who attacked her. She later restored Lina to her previous human form when made witness to the perseverance Gourry Gabriev had in getting her back.

Mentioning the name of the Lord of Nightmares, especially in a long chant similar to a spell, will cause even the mighiest mazoku to tremble. It does not necessarily have to be a spell, but the knee of every mazoku will bow at the invocation of the Lord of Nightmares's name, if spoken knowledgeably- the name and the words themselves bring power. Of course, do it wrong and the same mazoku can become angry. When done right, their morale is so weakened that they are rendered incapacitated for several moments.

While the LoN tends to keep out of worldly affairs, she decided to create two 'fragments' from herself to act as her eyes. These two are later revealed to be Cerras, the half-mazoku who serves under Hellmaster Phibrizzo, and Lazuli, a young human orphan girl. The two fragments each represent a part of the LoN's power, respectfully Creation and Destruction. However, neither are currently able to use their full powers, especially Lazuli who continues to deny her connection to the LoN. Even so, because of their unique powers, they have become a main target of the Demon Race.

Because they are merely fragments of the LoN, and not actually her herself, Cerras and Lazuli are both capable of being hurt and possibly killed. This is due to the fact that while they possess her powers, their bodies are still 'mortal', in a sense.

Both possess similar powers as well as some that are specific to what they represent:

Cerras:
Cerras found out she was a fragment of the Lord of Nightmares during the time when Xellos "died". It terrified her completely, scarred her. So the Lord of Nightmares took advantage of it, giving her the swords. She knew that Xellos would be the one to get rid of them, so she believed it was better to let her possess them sooner, so that her senses would fade sooner, and Xellos would not be able to help her. Sometimes her powers are activated when she is angry, due to the Lord of nightmares messing with her mind. She lashes out at people, her magic stronger, and her speed quicker. But when they are activated by her herself, she can heal real well, reverse things (anything that anyone does) , and change things back to before they were destroyed. She can fix things, that's basically her power. At least, developed so far.

Lazuli:
Most of Lazuli's powers are still unknown, since she has not awakened as a fragment yet. However as Oblivion, one of her powers is to completely erase existence. The world wouldn't simply blow or everyone in a certain range would die. The destruction would be absolute. There would be nothing, just pure oblivion. The very concept of reality would be eradicated faster than the blink of an eye. However, this power would only activate the instant Lazuli awakens completely. And that would only happen if she is put under unimaginable stress and torture. Thankfully the level of suffering needed is almost impossible to reach.
