Where I live, every year there is a Renaissance Faire and a Fairy Festival. There are also several Native American powwow gatherings.

These are all great things to attend if you can find some in your area.

What they are:
Renn Faires - celebrate the time of Tudor Queen Elizabeth I, the daughter of Henry VIII; and Shakespeare. There is a day long story that is acted out. Side productions of jousting, Shakespeare plays, belly dancers, Scottish dancers and buccaneers. Chakra readings. Lots of food - smoked turkeys, soup, etc and lots of gifts ranging from dragon ornaments to jewelry to books. You can dress in period costume too.

Fairy Festivals - are where people celebrate fairies and dress up. There is food, gifts, etc. They usually take place in an open field. It's great for kids.

Pow wows- are Native American gatherings, local Native Americans and enthusiasts gather together. There are lots of gift stores, and buffalo burgers. Depending on the location depends on the activities.

Please add any information you would like.
Have you ever been to any of the above?
Do you have great experiences to share?

I would really love to go to an Indian powwow but my Great Grandmother passed away before she could take me. I have been to the Renaissance Faire before. It was very fun and very up my alley. If it is not too personal, where do you live?

Pennsylvania. I try to go to the Renn Faire here every year. My only problem is the cost, I mean you pay $25 to get in and then spend another $50 on food and purchases. But I do love it, one year I would like to dress up for it, just for fun.

I heard that you have to be (atleast part) native american to attend a Powwow. Or does it just depend on the rules of the tribe having it?

There are a lot of pow wows around here that non Native Americans go to. Of course they are respectful, but my dad took me to one when I was a kid and he has no Native blood at all. Even though I do have some from my moms side you could never tell looking at me.

Yeah...only my body build and easily tanned skin are an indication of my indian hertitage really. And the only powwow in my area are for natives only.
