Chapter One; Blood and Boys
This book is dedicated to my wonderful cat D.C. (Drop Cloth) Though hes gone now I will never forget the way he brushed up against my face, leaving a trail of fur. Or when he left a 'present' on our door-step. Usually a bird or a mouse, or one time a fox that was larger then himself. I love him with all my heart and hope to see him one day.

Some people you can never please,
you might as well just let them be.
Once upon a time, there was a couple who loved each other dearly. But their love was actually beyond that. They where the heirs of an important throne and there family was dead set against this relationship. They despised it so much that they even said they will disown them as their children if they went off to marry each other.
The girl was known as the Princess Yuuki. She was fair and beautiful, and her love for nature could often be too much for her own good. Many men from near and far wanted her as a wife for she could bring them many riches. Anything you could possibly ask of her, she could do.
The Gentleman who was lucky enough to win her hand was Prince Ryu. He was a great and handsome prince and wanted by many females. He loved the refreshing glow of the night, and when those many females swarmed Ryu it never bothered him because the attention from those he did not know made him feel like an important man, he liked it. But Ryu only had eyes on Yuuki; the only gal who wouldn't give him the kind of attention the others did, making her so different from them, that his love grew for only her.
5 years of marriage and 2 sons later, the problems began to start. Ryu as you could see was still the center of attention. And from above you know that he loves this particular attention. He loved Yuuki, yes, but he also loved the interest of other women. Ryu was more like the type of guy that preferred to have the company of 20 ladies then just one (the one being his wife). He got away with himself and did the most horrid thing you could possibly do in a marriage. He cheated on Yuuki. Of course she didn't know about this but soon found out. She only discovered it because of the rumors passed around by the villagers.
When Yuuki went to confront her husband of 5 years, Ryu couldn't answer. He only stood there, dumbfounded; confused that she found out, and devastated that he now had to confess. Everyday and night she would cry and cry herself to sleep for her lost love, the love she left her home and family for. Every time she saw his face; every time he would touch her, or even speak a single word, she would begin to cry. Yuuki's life was miserable. The broken hearted wife felt as though she may as well be a widow. Yuuki, one fateful night, died in her sleep crying. No one knew how. Her death was a mystery. At Yuuki's funeral, Ryu made a vow, to her, that in the future, when their souls are reincarnated and they find each other once more, he will only love her, and they can live the rest of their lives together with their hearts entwined.
A few moons later, after she was burried, Ryu's youngest son came to him to talk about his mother. This is something they started to do each and every night since the terrible night that Yuuki passed. Ryu spoke of Yuuki to him. Telling him of all the wonderful things she had done, although he ended his stories all the same way. Always stay with the one you love, never think you can make your life better by having all the girls you wish. It only makes it worse.
Many years later (15 years or so), the tiny child became older and his father died of old age. On his death bed he made a vow of his own. You see, all those long nights of love stories his father shared with him; they grew on him. He vowed to his father that he would find the right one, and never let her leave his heart, and never let her be replaced in the heart of his that she will take ownership of.
~
It has been said in a very ancient prophecy that seven princesses and their knights would one day save the earth from complete destruction. Not just one time however, but as many times as it takes to defeat the evil that plans to rein this devastation.
Coming back to the late Ryu's youngest son, we now find some breathtaking information. A specific girl, a very special girl, that has taken this young mans heart. However, she is not just any ordinary girl. She seems to be, but that is all about to change. I guess you could call her the leader, the leader of the seven princesses and their Knights that were prophesied. Although she would just as soon tell you that she would never think of herself that way.
The older brother soon grew tired of his younger brothers foolish dreams. When he was old enough he immediately moved on, aiming to get as far away from his sibling as possible. As the years went by, while his younger brother still searched for this high princess, the elder brother married a maiden named Windasella. They had a child shortly after; a girl, named Canadae.
For the younger brother, there is one fatal flaw that makes his journey much more difficult, who is she? What does she look like? How will he know its her? And for the final problem: what is her name? The only thing he knew was that if it was her, she would have an identifying birthmark known only to him, and one other. An odd dark red mark on her forehead, that looked something like this: ยง. They have never met before, but he knows that she is the one. He has always known; feeling it in his heart every time the thought of her enters his mind. He was in love. With a girl he did not know.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~1~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
In a small town there lived a girl named Iris Vasquez. Iris, being a girl of 16, had a boyfriend whom she was very close to, and friends who's care for her is never ending. She had short bleached blond hair in the back and two long strands hung infront of her pale face that always looked darker when it was wet in the rain. She always wore black or at least dark colors, including her black glasses, matching the dark but serious personality from within. But one thing was for sure. She NEVER wore the color pink, despising the color with a great passion. And whenever you needed her, her black eyes were always found flying across the vanilla pages of her favorite books, such as the Cirque Du Freak novels, or any of the ones in the Anita Blake series.
At school her attitude was no different then the ones of her many favorite anime characters from the shows that she watched making her well known for her behavior. But you can always expect similar attitudes from anyone in high school; high school is always hard. She was hated by most for her serious lack of common courtesy towards the 'populars' at school. Not that they showed any courtesy toward her. They just always had the impression on themselves that they deserved special treatment. She hated them worse than anything and they never failed to disgust her with their, "HOLY CRAP I BROKE MY NAIL!!" rants, (especially when the guys did it... ewwy). She didn't care one bit about them; never had.
One day, normal day, normal life, she walked through the halls of the school, shoving those who wouldn't move out of her way into lockers. She always asked everyone politely to move, but they never seemed to hear her. So, she would always do the next best thing. One of the people this time around who usually was on the painful end of her "excuse me's", lost it for the first time ever, deciding that he was fed up with it. So as she walked on her merry away after royally pushing him into his locker, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her back.
"I swear if you ever push me into a locker again ill knock your teeth in." The hilarious looking but frustrated jock said angrily.
Iris narrowed her glare at him, not used to getting feedback on her table manners and said, "Bite me," her English accent was thick as she yanked her hand free from his grasp. Her eyes left him dramatically, as she turned with resonance and left the guy standing by his dopey friends (all seriously needing lives), who decided to glare at her. She walked past the many lockers until she met up with her friend Nemerisa (and her locker) near one of the brick pillars that somehow always seemed to bring the hallway together. Nemerisa was a sweet girl; small with a very petite frame that made her look fragile and delicate. Her bleached blond hair stood out the most making her resemble a shorter version of a sun-bleached maypole (shh, don't tell). She always seemed to think it was fun to freak Iris out by dressing like a prep (only to a point, pink was definitely in her wardrobe though), but never did she act snotty or frizzy.
Although she can be a bit of a...dork most of the time, screaming random things that are happening. Like when they watch movies she would scream out, "AH! IM SCARED!" Whenever someone popped out. Pointing out the obvious every second of the time.
She and Iris had been best friends since 2nd grade. The two were inseparable and they did everything together; never could they be broken up.
"Hey Nem." Iris said happily as they did their hand shake.
Their back hands hit, then their front hands, then the backs again before they clasped their hands together and pulled down, when done they folded their arms and and banged on their chests with a fist before poking each others fingers in a peace sign. As they did this they said- "Ching Chang Wang Yeng, Yo. Best Friends!"
It had been their hand shake for over two years.
"Hey Iris" Nemerisa said after their hand-shake. "How yah doin'?"
Iris shrugged. "Same old same old. Say where's Brian and Ed?" She asked. Ed was short for Edward (obviously) and Brian was just her friend who. . .many times "associated" with a girl named Haleigh. Pronounced Hailey just spelled different. Haleigh. . .how do you even begin to describe her. How about. . .the snottiest, preppiest, and most popular female flirt in school who needed to be slapped till her cheek bones flatten. She was always trying to lure Brian in with her disgusting (not really) brown eyes, but, thank God, he was never that easily tempted.
"He's behind you with Haleigh," Nemerisa answered Iris, "and Ed won't be here today; big dentist appointment, he's gonna be hurting for a while. . ." Nemerisa watched as Iris ignored her comment about Ed and turn around to face Haleigh and her 'peeps'.
"That little. . .," Iris mumbled as she walked over to her worst enemy. . .and Brian.
He was tall boy. A little taller than Iris. He had about a shoulder length emo style hair-flip that was a very dark brown but looked black. He had on a blue Hollister shirt and faded, knee-holed, jeans that emphasized his non-existent hips. And matching his hair were his black eyes that reminded you of puppies. One glance and you could stare at them forever never to turn away and never to find the iris of them.
"Hey Brian," she said loudly on purpose in hopes to make Haleigh notice her too.
Brian turned around with a 'thank you for saving me' smile. She returned it with a 'your welcome' grin.
"Say do you know where Krim is?" She asked calmly.
"Hes probably somewhere making out with a more interesting and more attractive girl than you!" Haleigh responded in a nasally voice, making her friends laugh. Of course the laughs were fake. Stupid suck-ups.
Iris rolled her eyes. She really didn't care what anyone thought of her. It never occurred to her that she should really care, as long as she liked herself then she was set. The only thing that bothered her was when someone, anyone, made fun of her friends. Especially Krim.
"Nice try Haleigh." Brian muttered before turning to Iris. "He's down in the gym Iris. He's taking a test that he missed. I'm actually heading down there for first hour, I'll tell him you said good morning."
Iris looked at Brian and said, "Thanks," turning to Haleigh she shrugged, "Oh and by the way, Krim wouldn't do that to me. Although I wouldn't put it passed Nick to do that to you."
"He wouldn't!" Haleigh retorted angrily.
"Hes doing it now"
"No hes not!"
"Yup. . ." Iris simply said pointing behind her.
Haleigh whipped around, only to see her boyfriend, well ex. . .now, making out with another girl. A girl that was supposedly her friend.
Iris couldnt help but feel a little sorry for her, but that sorrow was soon blown apart by a sudden comment by Haleigh.
"Fine" she hissed. "Go ahead and live your 'wonderful life' but I will crush it sooner or later." She turned to Nick, wanting to end his life, but quickly turned back, finishing her sentence, "Irie."
Iris' face went white and her eyes narrowed so deeply that you could match the size to the head of a pin. Brian had to hold her back from lunging at the girl. Nemerisa had already come over by now, she looked at Iris with a thoughtful look of sorrow.
Iris wrenched herself free from Brian's grasp, and Brian gladly stepped away, afraid of being stabbed by her stare.
Iris just glared at Haleigh before stomping off, this time everyone getting out of the way.
Brian sighed. "What is it about that nickname that sets her off?" He asked, truly curious.
"I dont know if she wants anyone else to know. I would tell you but. . .it's pretty personal. Just ask her when she cools off; she'll probably tell you. But I have to get going." She said as the bell rang.
"See yah at lunch!" She called, running after Iris.
Brian just nodded and thought of the last time he asked Iris the question as he walked down the stairs to first hour. He rubbed his cheek simultaneously, remembering how much her punches hurt. That was the first time he had ever seen her tears.
He changed his clothes silently in the locker rooms and headed to the gym in deep thought. however, he was wrenched out of it suddenly by a body slamming against him, knocking the wind out of him and causing him to fly into the wall. The body was Krim.
He was Iris' boyfriend, a very nice guy, the kind of guy all the girls in the universe would dream of having. Some times even Haleigh wanted a piece, but never even considered going for him knowing what Iris would do. He looked to be nearly the exact replica of his brother Edward, only he always wore Hot Topic outfits, and never did he even touch Hollister or Abercrombie. The stuff sickened him so much that he wouldn't even walk into the store.
He was Iris' gothic guy and could never be happier to have Iris as his girl. Although his parents acted as though they wanted her dead.
"Hey Benton!" He cheered happily, addressing Brian by his last name.
"Hey Krim. . ." He mumbled, rubbing his shoulder. "Iris says 'Hi' by the way."
"Oh, geez, sorry about the shoulder. Thanks though, how is she?"
". . .pissed. . ."
"Haleigh?"
"Yup."
"What did she do this time?"
"Called her Irie."
At the name Krim froze, his face went pale like Iris' did. He gulped, about to say something but the teacher beat him to it.
"Mr. Kuroga and Mr. Benton, please, finish this discussion later, class is about to start."
_______________________________________________________________
Iris was sitting in her desk. It was in the way back, next to the window. She liked windows, they made her feel closer to home so she was happy she was able to persuade the teacher to have her sit here.
She was drawing her anime characters as usual ( she did it when she was bored), but the constant noise of page flipping was getting on her nerves. So, she turned to the boy who sat next to her.
Kivana, a total nerd, although a very very attractive nerd, was completely immersed in a book at the time. He was the kind of guy that all the girls could fall in love with easily. Well, almost all.
He had the same length of hair as Brian except his was a light brown that resembled coffee ice cream. Mmm. . . coffee. . . That's what they all say. But lucky for Iris, she never acquired a taste for the dark, smooth drink. But even though his hair was gorgeous, he always wore a catrscratch hat and covered it up. It looked like a cat. The paws were ear flaps on top and that made Iris want it all the more. . .
"What ch ya reading?" She asked randomly.
Kivana removed his glasses and looked into Iris' eyes. "If you must know," he said with his own slight British accent, "its Edgar Allen Poe." Then went back to his book. Iris rolled her eyes with a small smile and turned back to her drawing.
Nemerisa sat in front of Iris' desk, kneeling down and placing her chin on atop the glossy surface.
"Hey Iris, you shoulda seen Haleigh beat Nick up, that was a hoot..."
Iris just nodded. "Good for her."
"Ms. Nadinorina please go to your seat, Ms. Vasquez drawings away, and Mr. Kayzo. . .your book. . ."
Nemerisa ran to her seat, half way across the room right away while Iris and Kivana put their things away. Then out of nowhere Kivana stood and bowed to the teacher. "Sorry Mrs. Marline, it wont happen again," he said sitting down, not meaning a word of it.
Iris stood and bowed as well. "Yes. Please continued with making us fall asleep," she said, then sat back down. She meant every word and it ended up leaving the class laughing quietly.
Mrs. Marline narrowed her eyes at Iris before turning and starting with the lesson.
Iris just sat there drawing on her notebook paper, completely ignoring the lesson, although Kivana frantically scribbled down notes on everything she said.
Iris rolled her eyes and nearly fell asleep when Nemerisa banged her fist on Iris' desk. "Class is over, wake up," She said with a smile.
"I'm not asleep. . .I'm just thinking. . .very very hard. . ."
Iris and Nemerisa left the room, Iris not having learned a thing at all of course. She wasn't even sure exactly what class it was. Was it gym?
She was going to say something to Nemerisa when Kivana walked up to her.
"Say Iris, do have yesterdays' math notes? I was gone. . ."
Iris smiled and reached into her folder and for her math notes.
"Here you go, be warned, my hand writing sucks..."
"I think I'll manage.."
"Umm..." She said trying to think of what to say. "Guess
I'll see you at lunch then."
"Alright, see yah then." With that Kivana ran off with his other buddies.
Someone walking down the hall said something and Iris and Nemerisa laughed at it as they walked off on their way to band.
They sat in their spots, which happened to be right next to each other and got their instruments ready. They were both trombones, the best instrument ever!
Iris oiled the slide to make it easier to move and took out her music, practicing her scales while Nemerisa toyed with her cell to get it to turn off before she began practicing as well.
They're Band instructor, Mr. Kulle walked in. He was an awesome teacher, even though he played percussion. . .
He walked to the front of the stage, where they practiced, and answered a couple questions that some people had before raising the conducting wand and began.
~
After band, the two friends had finished putting their instruments away and were talking to the other trombonists about the unfair parts in the music. So far every instrument had gotten a solo in one of the songs: the trumpets three times, the clarinets once, the flutes got two, and even the percussionists got an interestingly long solo in the middle, but the trombones never got one. They all hated it the unfairness of it. The trombone is a very, very hard instrument to learn, not that any other instrument was difficult but really! Have you ever had to stretch out your arm every time you need to get to the next note? They worked their butts off to do as well as they do and still they would never got a solos! Grrr! It made them so frustrated.
As they walked down the hall Iris and Nem took their instruments with them, remembering the promise they made at the beginning of each year. To take their instruments home and practice at least twice a weak. . .despite the weight of the instrument in carrying it home. . .
They talked about something random until they met up with their friend, the euphonium. . .ist, Aviea Netheral. She had shoulder length shiny blond hair and she was skinny, not as skinny as Nemerisa, (considering no one was as small as her) but she was still perfectly fit. She always dressed like a normal person, not exactly preppy, but not. . .screw it, she was never even close to goth.
"Hey guys," she said, her braces shining just slightly in the light, and her glasses hanging on the edge of her nose. She was very smart; always the person to go to for educational help of any kind, but not as much of a nerd as Kivana. But for sure, she was the perfect friend.
"Hey Aviea," Iris said, pushing Aviea's glasses up seeing as she wasn't quite able to herself what with all of the stuff she was holding.
A couple people in the hall stared for a moment, wondering how in all crap Iris could even lift the hand that she used, considering that it held the trombone in it. To push a pair of glasses up and lift a trombone would be hard, but adding to it the fact that she made it look as though it had no weight to it at all, was impressive. But Iris, since day one has always been quite strong. So far, there is not a soul on the planet that she could not pick up.
"Hey, hows work?" Nemerisa asked. "Done?"
"I'm not letting you cheat off me. You know what happened with me and Iris last year."
She was talking of course about the time when she and Iris had exchanged math homework to check answers. The teacher saw and concluded that they were cheating. Though even after the teacher had found out they weren't, Aveia's parents didnt care. They still hated Iris. Even to this day. . . Iris had to say, it kinda pissed her off.
"Yeah. . .although. . .no parent hates Nem, they all use it up on me. . ." She growled. Being the person she is (goth and all that jazz) makes all her friends, and Krim's, parents completely hate her for reasons she could not quite explain.
Nemerisa shrugged. "Eh, it was worth a try. . ." she said almost falling under the weight of the instrument as they walked up stairs. Iris rolled her eyes and took it from her, knowing Nemerisa only did that on purpose so she wouldn't have to carry it herself.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
While all this was happening.
Krim smiled, Brian did as well. As normal, they were the only 'survivors' of the gym day challenge. They now had to go against each other. They're challenge was now to see how many push-ups they could do. They had already started the dispute, everyone cheering their names,
"KRIM!!! KRIM!!" Half of the Girls chanted this, along with some of the guys.
"BRIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" The other half of the girls cheered as well with a few other guys.
They had both gotten to 120 at the same time, then the bell rang. The two groaned angrily. This always happened. The stood and high-fived, shocking a couple people. They were always in constant rivalry, but were the best of friends. They left the very humid gym and went to the locker room, ignoring the shrill cry of the cheering girls that still kept on. They changed into their street clothes, again seeing who could do it faster, once more tying. Shortly after that they were stalking off to lunch. That's where it all went wrong. . .
They walked in and got their lunches and went to go sit down. The lunchroom was large, about twenty tables covered the floor, the chairs attached to the tables, each one already filled with many people talking and eating.
Brian and Krim made their way to were Iris was sitting. She was the only one sitting at the back table, all by her lonesome, but it didn't take a genius to figure out that she obviously didn't care. She was just sitting there contentedly digging into her spaghetti; her favorite meal at school, other than french-toast sticks of course.
She jumped slightly when Krim placed his hand on her shoulder. He smiled and kissed her on the head before sitting down next to her.
"Hey Iris, how yah doin?"
"3. . .2. . .1. . ." Her few words left Brian and Krim puzzled, but the confusion ended when a loud explosion erupted from behind them. Haleigh's lunch. . .exploded.
Iris, along with Brian and Krim plus many others started laughing hysterically.
"Does that answer your question?" A laughing Krim nodded, along with Aviea and Nemerisa taking their normal spots at the table. Sol'ona right behind them. Sol'ona was small, like Nemerisa, and fragile, but not at ALL shy, and very very odd.. . She loved the goth cartoon Invader Zim. You could tell because her and Iris were found drawing them all the time, along with Kirby Right Back At Yah! characters, mainly Meta Knight. . .
She had really short bleached blond hair with red streaks in it that reminded everyone who looked at her of a some type of fruit filled pastry. It looked good. Because of the illusion it gave, Iris called her strawberry danish constantly. Her outfits though, they were as weird as her actions. . .
"Hey danish," Iris said.
Sol'ona rolled her eyes. "Yeah yeah yeah...by the way, nice job on Haleigh, third time this week."
Iris just smiled. "Yeah I-" She was cut off by a, closed, carton of milk hitting the back of her head. She spun around, meeting eyes with Trevastass. He was hot (she would give him that) but he was beyond irritating. She despised him nearly as much as she did Haleigh. The hot but stupid character had long black hair that flowed like liquid silk, but ate like rotten black licorice (some of it had gotten into Iris' mouth once, it was not a pretty sight). Trevastass hated Iris, yet had a crush on her (go figure). And like Iris, he loved to fight.
She stood and folded her arms. "What is it camel breath?" She growled.
"I want to settle the problems between us once and for all." He responded calmly.
"Yeah? How?"
"A fight"
"Winner is most feared, and gets one thing they want from the other person? Mine would be funny..."
"Exactly. Mine just so happens to be that if I win, you become the happy girl that will get to date me." He said bluntly.
Iris glared at him.
Krim stood. "Don't worry," he said only to Iris. "I have no doubt you'll win." Iris smiled and looked at Trevastass. "After school on the football field," she said, turning around and sitting down again. Trevastass nodded, blew her a kiss, and walked back to his own seat to wait for the bell.
The next two periods went past like a blur. Iris had been too caught up in her fight strategy for that afternoon. She smiled when the bell finally rang. She had spent the whole last period of the day with half of her class in her face, all of them suspecting her of blowing up Haleigh's lunch. Funny thing was. . .the teachers never listened.
She stood and packed her all of her things in her locker and left her backpack inside its metal walls. She had purposefully finished her homework quite fast while in class so as to have nothing on her mind that may get in the way of the fight.
Iris met up with her friends and they walked out to the field, half the school was there, but the face she searched for was not among them. She scanned the crowd and finally found who she looked for. In the middle of the field was Trevastass. Waiting for her. Iris left her friends in the crowd and walked up to him.
"So, we clear on the deal?"She asked folding her arms.
"Yup," he replied with a smile.
"Then lets do this," she said, charging, her fist curled until she was right infront of him and straightened her arm to punch him. Trev dodged the punch but took her sudden kick. He coughed up a tad bit of blood, but wiped it away as quickly as it came, and then kneed Iris in the stomach. Iris' head flew forward. Trev caught her with his arm and shoved her against one of the goal posts hard, his hand clenched tightly around her neck. "Give up?" He asked, seductively getting closer.
"Bite. Me." Iris growled, her trademark line. She kicked him where the sun didn't shine, falling to her knees holding her stomach; an after shock kind of thing.
Trev was doubled over in pain, but quickly stood. He grinned then answered her rhetorical request, "Gladly," and ran towards her, biting her shoulder using every bit of muscle in his jaw. Iris yelped in pain and instantly kicked him off, backing up while clenching her now bloody shoulder.
Trev growled and bent down, picking up a fairly large branch (that just so conveniently had to be there) and charged at Iris. When he reached her he swung. Iris ducked and rolled out of the way, but when she looked back up to Trev, ready to dodge the next swing, he had hit her in the side of the head with the stick. Iris flew to her knees, letting out a blood curdling screamed while holding her head.
Trevestass leaned down and whispered darkly into her ear. "Your mine."
Iris glared at him. "No. I'm. NOT!!" She yelled, lunging at him, landing on his chest, strangling him.
Trev growled and punched her in the stomach, causing her to fly back and land on the soft grass, holding her stomach in pain once more.
"MR. CULNEY!! MS. VASQUEZ!!" A teacher yelled out of no where, running through the crowd toward them. He got to his knees by Iris. Her neck was red, her forehead was bleeding, and she was coughing up blood.
"What do you two think you're doing?!!" He yelled.
"Fighting..." Iris muttered.
"I'm calling your parents," The teacher growled, Iris flinched at the word. Teachers never thought about a persons personal life, did they?
"But for now I'm bringing you to the nurse's office."
"I said move!" Krim's voice could be heard. He was just now finally getting past another teacher and running up to Iris. He took one look at her and punched Trevestass square in the jaw. Then all of his attention when back to her.
"Iris?" He whispered in a sweet voice. "You ok?"
Iris just smiled, happy she heard his voice. . .just before she slowly slipped into unconsciousness.
