This is my altar right now. It actually has more stuff on it than it usually does >.> My altar is large but I hardly ever have much on it.

Any ideas for decorating for the Solstice, all?

Well, from what I can gather, all that holly and evergreen stuff is actually fairly Norse in origin fo that could be fun.

Though...it's not winter where you are is it? Hmm....

whee Hence my issue! Autumn is easy as is spring, and winter, but I never know what to decorate with in summer.

So what do you do for the other seasons (particularly spring)? If I can eliminate some options, I could start throwing ideas at you.

Blossoms, flowers and soft colours in spring. Oranges, browns and fallen leaves in autumn. Reds and greens and black in winter.

whee I like to use seasonal fruits. I'm not sure what native fruits are in season in New Zealand though sweatdrop Up here it's usually strawberries and raspberries heart as they're typically coming into season about then.

This is a really old pic (ironically...taken after a Midsummer ritual), but it really hasn't changed too much.

For summer you could use decorative grasses, or wild flowers. Color-wise usually bright blues, yellows, greens (or whatever colors you see most when you look outside on a summer day).

Basically what sweet said. Strong bright colors, and summer flowers and grasses are great. I like wildflowers and weeds myself. Hardy things that don't care how hot or dry it gets.

And sweet, that's a lovely picture.

Sweet: Your altar is so pretty!
I think I need to take the marigolds off my altar now that autumn is over and it is snowing now. I don't know if I should put my pressed rose petals on or if I should clip some leaves and take some berries from my holly trees.

I'm -really- boring. My working altar doesn't change much except for the colours of the candles. My shrines are constantly in states of change, since I work with them daily...

Sadly my camera is still broken. crying

Horses: I wish I had Holly - I've long wanted them for an incense ingredient! I just can't get it here. Is it possible for you to dry some leaves for me - say a couple of ounces - and mail them? We might be able to work out a barter for them (wink wink).

Sure! Just send me a PM telling me your address, and other details (like how you would like me to dry them).

My altar from last month's Old Year's Night ("Samhain") ritual. That's about as much as my altar ever has on it. xd

I don't actually have an altar - I just use a table we have in our garden when the weather's nice, or my desk if the weather's crappy. This was a photo I took for the Winter Solstice last year...I'll be doing the same again this year only with some wattle flowers as well.

It'll thin out a bit but that's what I've got right now.
