Just wondering: How does everyone feel about Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland interpretation? What did you like about it? (If anything.) What didn't you like about it? Favorite characters? Favorite scenes or quotes? Anything that you wish to happen that did not? Perhaps something that happened that you wish didn't?

I saw it on opening day. Went with a group of friends, cosplaying as the characters. Overall, I give it a six out of ten. I wasn't too crazy about the Depp Hatter, although I have HEAVILY shipped AlicexHatter for years. Christopher freakin' Lee as the Jabberwock was PERFECT. Wish that they had given him more lines, though. Hathaway made a wonderful White Queen, & Carter was an amazing Red Queen. Alice.. really was too stoic for my tastes. I admire the fact that Burton kept her stubborn, non conformist nature that she in fact had as a child in Carroll's original book, though. However, she just seemed too stoic & pained. It was almost as if Mia didn't even want to be playing Alice.

The ending, of course, took me by surprise. I half expected a little bit more romance between AlicexHatter. But, then again, she is ONLY nineteen. She still has growing to do. A man seems like the last thing on her mind. Though, (And, my HatterxAlice shipping buddies HATE me for this. xd ) I did get a tad.. curious about shipping StaynexAlice myself. (SHUT UP, DON'T JUDGE ME.) I mean, hey, he likes her muchness.. xp

So far, Stayne (Knave of Hearts) & Mirana are my favorite characters.

Yes, it is a novel, too.

This is NOT the original Alice. This is just the novelization of Burton's film version. I recommend reading it, as the film cut out A LOT of the story. A LOT. The original Alice was written by Lewis Carroll, for those who are curious.

I just saw this movie. smile I studied both of Lewis Carroll's books (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and Through the Looking Glass) in my English Lit class a month and a half ago, so it's details are fresh in my mind. Thanks to that I could appreciate all of the little details that they did include from each book. There was a lot of work put into it for sure, but like you said, the ending was a bit weak. There was so much hype put into this film I was sort of hoping for something a little more epic.
I think Carter was a fantastic Red Queen- although she isn't the Red Queen at all, she's the Queen of Hearts, different character.
The White Queen was okay, her flighty-ness was in character but I think she should have been more frazzled and needy, like she is in the book. The effects were really good too. Oh, and I wished there was more between Alice and the Hatter too, I never thought of it before but I liked it once they hinted at it. The open-ended way they did it makes me think they might try to do a follow-up, but I would be surprised if they can do that without beating the dead horse so to speak.

Edit: Haha well this explains why the white queen isn't entirely in character... (from imbd)The Los Angeles Times reports that film director Tim Burton based the White Queen on TV cook and cookbook author Nigella Lawson. The character in the movie is played by Anne Hathaway. "There's this very beautiful cooking show host in England named Nigella Lawson and I quietly had her as my image for this character," Burton said. "She's really beautiful and she does all this cooking, but then there's this glint in her eye and when you see it you go, 'Oh, whoa, she's like really ... nuts.' I mean in a good way. Well, maybe. I don't know."
