Are you going to see the movie when it first comes out?
Yes! I can't wait! I'll probably go within the first week of it's release!
Yeah, I'm excited. I'll go see it after a week or two of it's release.
I'm going to see it when it's almost out of theatures so I don't have to fight for a seat.
I'll wait until it comes out on DVD to watch it.
I don't plan to watch it at all.

Are you excited for the live action Avatar: The Last Airbender movie to come out? Are you nervous that it's not going to be accurate? Or that the acting will be terrible? Post your views about the movie here and discuss them with other fans who are preparing themselves for the best or worse, too.

I've read some pre-screening reviews that have really given more of an already bad view on the film. I would like to remain hopeful that it might be an ok film, but from the start I was already aggravated with the fact that they white-washed the cast and then the actors they picked on top of it. But, because I love the series so damn much, I will grudgingly go and see it anyway :/

I read the early reviews too and I am worried. The only actor that I do like in there is Dev Patel.

I agree with both of you. I'm not going to lie; I'm really nervous about this movie. Just seeing the cast alone has made me more nervous, but I want to remain hopeful and keep an open mind. It will either make fans foam from the mouth with joy or it could cause fans to lock themselves in their rooms for a few days from the pain of watching the movie. I'll be one of those fans that basically camp outside the theater waiting for the show to open. XD One of my big concerns about the movie is how they'll make Appa. He's a key character, and I'm suprised I haven't seen anything about him in any trailers.

For me personally, I'm beyond scared about how the movie is going to turn out. In fact, I don't plan on seeing it unless I get next to god-like reviews for the movies because they already screwed with the characters which is a big no-no. The story is character driven so yeah,...Let me know how it turns out while I bite my nails in wait.

I have a feeling the reviews are going to look down on this movie unless the reviewers who see the movie didn't watch the show. I'm so scared that the characters will be OOC alot. >_<

The biggest character I'm scared for is Sokka. He's such a distinct character and I have a bad feeling they're going to skrew him up. Ahh, the suspense! I wish I could see the movie soon just to calm my fangirl nerves! XD

Actually, if you're worried about Sokka, there's a clip shown in the newer trailers out there that show more of his fun side. You pretty much see him in the background, jumping up and down, yelling "WOOO!" Saw it on TV the first time and just squealed.

Quite honestly, I am excited beyond words. I'm really looking forward to this movie, and the two to come after it. I've read those pre-reviews too, but I'm still keeping an open, hopeful mind.

I mean yes, I love this story and these characters, so much and it'd be sad if they were completely messed up...But it really isn't looking like they've been butchered! The story still looks whole and right. The characters play a little more serious than in the show, but quite honestly, for a blockbuster movie, the atmosphere will HAVE to be a little different.

I keep telling people that change will just be part of the package with this movie, but that doesn't mean it will be horrible! Everybody's freaked out about it but I think it's going to be pretty good, at least.

I truly hope you're right about that. When you go see it, be sure to put up your own personal review so the non-believers like myself could have our hope for the franchise restored, if only a little (especially after that zutara blunder).

I am so afraid that the characters are going to be messed up.
I mean, they look almost nothing like the way the characters in the Series were. I am almost concerned that I won't be able to discern one from another. (Except Zuko and his scar that is wrong, completely.)
And, from an article I had read, they are changing some things, as well. It scares me. Here are a few of them:
Firebenders cannot create fire from inside their inner flame. They have to get it from another source, unless they are a master, and have learned to make it. Ex. Iroh would be able to create flames, but Zuko cannot.
They have changed the pronunciations of many of the words:
Waterbending, as you know, is now pronounced wooterbending.
Iroh's name is pronounced ear-oh. Sokka is soh-ka.
But, on accuracy, the Director had watched A:TLA many times before, and Bryke is part of the production squad. I don't think this movie is going to be far from accurate. Though, they might change it.

"Wooterbending?" where did you hear that? I heard about the names, but Shyamalan's reasoning was that they were more accurate to the culture. It'd be better if they left it, but it's not that bad.
I'm actually ok with the whole firebending thing, I mean...It doesn't seem like too much of a big deal to me. I like how it will actually emphasize Zuko's growth through the story, ie going from only being able to bend existing fire to, I'm thinking, becoming more of a master of the element and being able to create it. And if the Prequel book is right, then Zuko is already learning the Breath of Fire that Iroh taught him. So if the book is anything to go by, then he'll probably learn more.

And the thing about Zuko's scar is...I used to not like it either. For a long time I've been fine with it though. But come to think of it, after having drawn a piece with Movie!Zuko, I've gone to drawing up pages for my Zutara comic on DA. Since drawing the movie version, I can't help looking at the series scar and thinking, yeah, that really is an unrealistic shape when you look at it.
I see the movie version of the scar as a much more realistic interpertation. I mean, it could stand a little more emphasis, but I am satisfied with it.

As for the characters, so far, they're looking pretty good. We're even seeing a lot more of Sokka's silly side, which people were very worried about.

The Avatar movie has been out now for a day or so! Has anyone gone to see it yet? If you do, please fill us in! 3nodding

My brother just saw it today, he said it was a good movie as far as action goes and that it was a good interpretation of the show. However, the characters were thoroughly screwed over. The only character the most 'in character' was Sokka.

Aang was way more serious.

Katara was overly dramatic.

Momo didn't mess around as much.

No Kyoshi Warriors, so no Suki.

No Koizilla.

No Aunt Wu.

The movie was very Aang and Zuko centric (so they kept the Blue Spirit.)

What was worse though, was that Katara was royally screwed. There was no stealing of the waterbending scroll, no fight with Pakku, all her major developement from season one was cut out so that the focus could be on Aang.

I won't put much more since I didn't see it myself, and I don't know what's going on as far as the shipping standpoint since my brother doesn't pay attention to that. If any one has seen it, they can add to his review.

All and all it was a good movie, but the characters were screwed over (which is what I thought would happen).

I think that time was the key issue of the movie, really. Cause if you think about it, Time constraint was why the focus was primarily on Aang and his story, and secondarily Zuko and his story, and third went to Katara and Sokka. And since we had limited time for Katara and Sokka, that meant they got a heck of a lot less character development, which was what this movie was lacking. The pacing was such that we never got time enough to care about characters other than Aang or Zuko, aside from a couple of snippets in the beginning about Katara's mom, their father, Sokka's protectiveness, all before Aang came in and stole the show.

My thought is that it just should have been 2 and a half hours long.

If they'd done that, I'm sure the fans would still want to see it, and they would have been able to develop Katara and Sokka a bit more. I'd personally use the time to include some of Katara's frustrations with bending up to her triumph with it, and even the thing with Pakku. It would have really strengthened her character. For Sokka, I would give him a few more moments and maybe some more one-liners like "It tried to eat me!!", and I would show a little bit more of the Yue/Sokka romance instead of just Katara narrating to us what happened.

Most important, I'd devote more time to actually MAKING IT LOOK LIKE THE TRIO ARE ACTUALLY FRIENDS.

After I started thinking about it when I got home, that was something that really bothered me, the three didn't seem to have any chemistry with each other, they just seemed like they'd banded together out of obligation and duty.

Before I throw myself into another rant about the whole thing, I already wrote out the bulk of my thoughts on the whole thing in my DA Journal.

All being said though, I enjoyed it for what it was, but I very much agree that there is SOOO much room for improvement. Hopefully Shyamalan will listen to the fans and step everything up with the next one. I'm hoping for a longer movie so it doesn't have such a problem with time, which effects everything in the movie.

Ummm By the way.....

Zuko v. Katara at the Northern Water tribe? DID YOU SEE WHAT HE DID THAR??? Perhaps Shyamalan is on our ship afterall.
