I can't remember where I found this program from, but it sounds too good to be true! 2 weeks of intensive language immersion classes abroad for only 1300 usd?! (I went to china for 2 weeks for a crappier program for twice that amount before! D:<)

And being a cynical New Yorker, I really can't believe that this program is without hidden tricks ninja So has anyone heard anything about this?

I don't know where you saw it stating only 1,300 dollars. Most of what I see if anywhere from 8,000-15,000.

There are many different exchange programs and language courses within the EF organization and those 8,000-15,000 dollar programs are probably the ones where you spend around 10 months abroad or so. I'm actually going to the US with EF this year and I'll be staying there for around 11 months and my program is costs maybe 8,000 euros so that's around the same.

I think these are not the programs you're talking about though but the language courses that EF also offers. A few summers ago I was on a language course with EF also. I was in Australia and it cost be around 1,000 euros so that 1,300 dollars probably is the right amount of money. But, on my course at least there were many things like trips that cost extra.

To be honest, after my Australia-trip, I decided I wouldn't go anywhere with EF anymore but things happened and now I'm going to the US with the very same organization again. I'll tell you one thing though: big promises, little action.

I didn't learn a thing in Australia but I mostly went there for the experience anyway as I was already good in English. It wasn't an intensive course for me but a normal international one for 4 weeks so I'd presume the intensive ones are the ones where you really have to study and probably learn more too, especially if you already aren't semi-fluent/fluent like I was when I went there, haha.

And even though a lot of things went wrong for me there and the organization didn't fulfill all their promises, it was still a really great experience and I got to use a lot more English in an English speaking environment than I do at home. If you're up for it, I do suggest it! :') But you've just got to keep in mind that everything they promise, might not actually come true. :s

Well, if it's not absolutely terrible I'd like to go 8D I've evr been out of the United States, excluding China, so I'm excited at the prospect of spending a few weeks in Barcelona

No, it's definitely not terrible! I had a great time there, had some awesome new experiences and did things I wouldn't have done otherwise. :')
I didn't learn much English though but I don't regret going there one bit. The worst things that happened to me there weren't the organizations fault eiher. I'm just saying that they make a bit too many promises. ;p

The site isn't Iranian, it just checks your computer's IP address and changes itself to the language of the country where that IP address is registered. So I'd take it that your computer has an Iranian IP address?

I went to the UK to study English with that organization almost 10 years ago.

I agree with Palasokeri, they make big promises but don't necessarily keep all of them.
All in all, it's not so bad, though. If you find it cheaper than other programs, why not.

I had a great time anyway, and most of my discomfort was due to conditions not totally dependent on the organization, like for example I was staying in a dorm for the first time and it was far from clean etc. Also we were quite young, and sometimes we were left by ourselves; now I would rather seek that kind of approach, but at the time I had never been abroad by myself and so it was a bit disheartening.

If you're going with a friend, I'm sure you'll have lots of fun wherever you go!

About the study, I think you have to be proactive and ask teachers directly to get more to work on, I took an intensive course as well and I didn't work harder than usual... I was disappointed about that but being there and having to speak the language everyday made up for that.

My English still sucks, but that's another story! xd

Is that with or without airfare? If it's without airfare, that sounds about right for two weeks.
For example:
A two week intensive course in Dresden through the Goethe Institute with accommodation in a single room, goes for 1050 euros (around 1300 usd at the current exchange rate) - if you stay in a double room, it's even less.

As an English teacher, I've had some job offers with EF in Russia and China.
I can't speak as a student, or even as an employee, but the teachers they are hiring for their English programs are fresh university graduates. Most don't even have any qualifications in teaching, other than having a 4 year degree and being a native speaker.

That said, I didn't look too closely at the sight.
I'm having a bit of overload in reading Korean today.
