Yellow-kun I think it would freak me out. Now...maybe Dark!Ash/Gary would work. That's probably the only way I could see Ash being on top as well, unless someone could find a more plausible reason (i.e. Gary ending up severely injured because of a rampaging Tauros accident, with Ash reluctantly taking care of him because of Professor Oak calling in a favor, and through the meetings and forceful bonding…Okay, off topic, off topic. I wish more people would write for this fandom. XD)

Yellow-kun Even still, that comes off as more "The nurse healing the injured man" thing, not Ash being on top. Depends how it's written. I've seen it done before with other pairings.
