The ancient art of Zanshin is the art of being aware of everything but focused on nothing... here one may learn fighting styles and teachings for betterment of your life.

Zanshin teaches us to be one with our surroundings and to be keen of mind even in the face of fear. Zanshin is being aware of all that surrounds you but not being focused on one thing. It can be applied to many concepts... Fighting, living, School, nature and much more.

So this is more like a meditated art ...

Zanshin lays at the very core of iaijutsu. Without it, the art would be nowhere near as practical, as the ability to detect threats even a heartbeat before they strike can mean the difference between a successful defensive draw and certain untimely death. My sensei also mentioned that it was imperative in kyudo (Zen archery for those outside the terminology) but I never took that up so I could not vouch for that fact.

I haven't heard of this exact thing before, but it intrigues me. I'll have to learn more about it... Thanks for putting this up. ^.^

Similar to what you're describing, but Zanshin is even more than this. I don't know it it relates to most, but when you're in a state of hyper-awareness during a fight, when you hit that "zone" and can sense what an opponent is going to do before they even know or when you've got your back to the enemy but they still can't get the drop on you even though they're being perfectly stealthy, that is Zanshin. Modern science hypothesizes that when you're deep in a meditative state, the body's awareness of electrical fields and its interpretation of the signals from your senses reaches a heightened state allowing you to decipher the motives and intentions of others from the slightest of whispers and body language.
