has anyone had a tragedy happen while snowboarding?
a few weeks ago, me and my closest friends were snowboarding and one of my friends went missing. we looked for hours walking and riding up and down the hill. After a while we figured he wanted to go off on his own, and relax. but after hours of not seeing him around and him not answering the phone we began to get worried. I went to my car to get a bigger coat so i could stay out longer to look for him, as i was walking i saw someone being taken down the mountain on a stretcher, a lump immediately hit my stomach. I walked back praying everything is ok, when i got back to the lodge a helicopeter went over head and my gut was screaming at me. somebody joked, oh i bet hes in there. He was missing from noon to 8. At 8 oclock, me and 2 other guys were riding the ski lift up the mountain, still looking for him, we got a call that a jane doe was being lifelighted and they heard we were looking for a young guy. We rushed down the mountain and gave first aid his name age......They gave us a number to get his board out of storage, it had a huge chuck of wood sticking out of it. they couldnt find an ID on him, since it was the only thing we had to go on, we rushed to the hospital that was about 2 hours away. We later ID him. He was alive but barely. He was riding through the trees and saw a picnic table he was simply going to jump up on the table which he did successfully but when he turned around which you know what i mean if you board, and hit a tree head first. I dont think i need to go into much more detail but what happened was tragic, he was lying in the snow for hours dying while we rode on by. We walked right by him and didnt know. When they found him, he hadnt been breathing for 7 minutes, estimated. looking back to seeing his stretcher and his helicopter is difficult.
I hope i explained it well enough but it was one of the hardest things to go through, He is now stable but not the same.
Has anyone ever experienced anything similiar?
How do you go on?
When i first found out what happened i slammed my board against a brick wall and shattered the top half. its not ridable. lol it was a brand new lamar. first time i ever rode it and now i dont know if i will ever be able to even think about boarding again?! not because im afriad but because of the fact that it changed my life and idk if ill be able to ride without flashes of the memories.
every night i dream that day over and over.
does anyone get what im saying?
or understand?
anyone else have any bad boarding stories?

omgoodness!!! they didnt tell you? for 10 months you walked around thinking that your friend was alive and he wasnt? dude. thats messed up. how in the world did they keep that a secret? so no funeral?
have you ever snowboarded again?

yeah every night its the same thing. his body laying in the snow dying. his face blue. him in Icu and me boarding having a great time, riding on by, oblivious to the fact that my life is falling apart while im doing the only thing that makes me remotely happy

ouch, thats intense...but i feel ya

ya know its intresting my friend that was in the accident has a twin brother and the one in the accident was always real strong rough and tough guy and the other one was, a follower, and needed taken care of, now the roles are reversed.... its crazy watching people change dramatically and quickly right before your eyes.
