Used stuff is just so much better for the environment.
A lot of people think of used clothing, and then go "yuck, other people have worn it". Really, it's not gross. One wash and it's nice and germ-free, plus used clothing is pre-shrunk and broken-in comfortable.
But anyways, I've found that you can get TONS of stuff used. Appliances, furniture...
What are some of your stories about great used finds? Or, is there something that you think MUST be bought new? If so, what's a great way to buy it in the greenest way possible?

I found a beat up coffee oval shaped coffee table by the side of the road. I cleaned it up. Cut out a crescent moon shape and some star shapes. I outlined them in silver and painted the rest in purples and blues. It gets a lot of attention from all my pagan friends.

Also where i live, there is an online group called freecycle. People list what they have they are trying to get rid of or what they need. I actually got an electric treadmill. Its a great program

Most all of my furniture, half of my family's clothes and other household odds and ends have come from yard sales or thrift shops.
Our cooking pots are a set of Calphalon that I found at Salvation Army for 5 dollars. My daughter loves to go to yard sales for her toys, too.

If one MUST buy new, be sure to buy either bamboo or hemp fibers. though they sound like they'd be scratchy, they actually tend to be rather soft, especially the new bamboo shirts.
Also, Try to buy clothing that is certified sweat shop free. it may be a tad bit more expensive, but you make a HUGE impact on the lives of the people and children who are forced to work to themselves past bleeding point.

I don't generally buy anything new save for underwear. However, I can pretty well never find a style that fits comfortably and looks good on me, so I'm thinking of just making some myself.

I do my best to find things used instead of going out and getting them new (nicer on my wallet, as well), but I'm not perfect. There are still times when I need to get over the convenience of just going out and buying it.

*looking for a citrus juicer so I can drink more orange juice without having to pay seven big ones for those jugs sad *

Most of my clothes come from my nana (who has sense of what teenagers wear) and she gets most of her clothes used. Lately the only clothes I buy is from a place called Tree of Life, sort of a hippy shop that sells clothes, rugs, cushions, ornaments, incense etc. most of which is bought from India. It's a little expensive compared to a second hand shop, but I cannot resist....

I like to get video games second hand, as new video games a quite pricey. I'll also be on the lookout for a used, but still good Skateboard, as my friend got me into it recently...

I guess the only thing I wouldn't want second hand? Well.... there are some things, but not much.
Food would depend on the food in question. I wouldn't take a half eaten sandwich from a park bench, though I may take a half eaten sandwich if my friend was handing it over
