Did you like how it ended? Would you like it better if Christine stayed with Erik? Or do you like that Christine went with Raoul?

I love the movie and I think that the ending was great. But it would have been even greater if Christine had chosen the phantom. ^_^

But he was like... crazy.
And in the book the Phantom is supposed to be a rotting corpse, they only jazzed him up for the movie because no one wants to see a corpse.

Actually, like what DJ LAZA said, most people have only seen the movie/musical and saw a regular person with a make-up deformity that wasn't bad. Gerry is hot. We all know that so it makes Erik's look change from frightening, rotting corpse to sexy, major sunburn man.
I have seen pictures of MC's deformity and it was better along the lines of frighteningness.
If I got the chance I would pick Erik in a heartbeat. He has more personality than Raoul does. But in Christine's case I am not surprised. Raoul is stinkin rich. That was important in the 1870's. She was an opera singer. I imagine she didn't make a whole lot of money. Also women wanted to marry wealthy people.
Anyways if Christine picked the Phantom would we actually right now be sorry for Raoul?

To say a little and to add a little:
Yes, the Phantom was considered a 'living corpse' in the Gaston Leroux book which was first published in 1911 (in case you wanted to know). The first publication of the story and the actual events which occured are there.
When Webber read the book he was thinking on how to make it into a good musical, as those are really hard to make because people, like the fans, are really picky about what they want to listen/watch. He turned it into a romantic, melodrama with a little flare. We all appreciate what he did, making Butler hot as heck, and Crawford creepy, but he forgot about the original 1925 movie that was made. Watch that and you will see a semi-creepy Lon Chany do a wonderful job as "Full-Mask" creepy Erik.
On the subject of Christine choosing:
She was wise to go with Raoul, as he was her child-hood lover and best friend. The Phantom was meant to be alone, no parings, no nothing!!!! (Even though every girl that has seen the movie has written herself as a Christine, or made Christine go with the Phantom!) If she had gone with the Phantom, then what would be the point of even watching it? There would be No Point!!!!!
That is my rant, thank you for listening. ~bows out~

the whole story of the phantom of the opera is that she picks Raoul, the phantom in the musicals is a horrible person not just with how they look, she was never meant to pick him.......
btw where did you buy the book?

Like others have already said, the story would have had no point if Christine went with Erik. That is true for all versions of the story: books, movies, plays, etc. For the phans who've only seen the movie, it is easy to imagine Christine staying with Phantom, for obvious reasons! xd

Based on the Book: Erik is extremely psychotic. He fools Christine into thinking he is a 'heavenly spirit' and when she finds out otherwise he was going to keep her trapped with him forever but changes his mind and lets her go. The only reason Christine continues to go to him is out of pity and fear. He is so envious of Raoul he kidnaps her again and tells threatens to make the opera house explode if she doesn't marry him.
Raoul went through hell to save Christine. He and the Persian get trapped in Erik's favorite torture device that makes them think they are in a desert surrounded by dangerous animals and faced with extreme heat and dehydration. Raoul was going to give up but the Persian found out how to escape it. Just because he was going to give up doesn't make him a pansy. My choice is going to be Raoul.
I agree it would ruin the story if Christine went with the Phantom. He would never realize it was his actions and cruel nature that made him lonely, not just his deformity.
