So, this is going to be like "Pirates of the Skies" sort of thing.
This is how it goes. (And I know it is a LOT to read, but bare with me! It's all important!)
A long, long time ago the planet was normal. Lets call her. . . Yora. That has a ring to it. . . Sort of? Does it mean anything? I dunno, anyway. Long time ago, planet called Yora.
Alright.
So, people lived on the surface since, well, forever. Then, earthquakes started to plague the planet. Massive chunks of land would collapse at a time, ans the world slowly became consumed my LAVA! Nasty stuff, in'it? I dislike it too.
So, as the Yora began to crumble and oceans of lava began to consume the world, the people of Yora knew they must take to the skies if they wanted to survive. They began constructing ships. Some small, personal carriers. Some larger, meant for a good sized crew (20 or so?) and some massive floating colonies. Yeah, I like the sound of that.
So, these ships were all powered my crystal energy because it's easy and takes little explanation. Yet, I shall explain.
These crystal, Centrion Crystal are lighter than air. They grow in the span of about 40 years. They occur when random magic (Think of magic like the wind or water. It has flows and currents) occurs in high concentrations and Genta Rock (A stone that can be infused with magic) is in the area. The magic infuses the Genta Rock and slowly turns the opaque stone into a translucent crystal. The color varies seemingly randomly but the color has no effect on the crystals performance.
Okay, so now you have random magic changing Genta Rock into Centrion Crystals, which once in high enough concentration will cause the land to break apart and become a floating island (Possibly responsible for the destruction of Yora's surface?). The Centrion Crystals are the primary source of power, second being steam. When the Centrion Crystals are tapped, they release a pulse of energy. There are three types of Centrion Crystals.
Cutting Grade, Weapons Grade and Source.
Cutting grade crystals can be tapped rapidly and emit a very small, yet very powerful pulse. These crystals often line the edges of blade weapons used for combat or cutting tools used to do any number of things.
Weapons Grade crystal can only be tapped a few times a minute. The higher grade the crystal (S, A, B, C, and D) the more frequently it can be tapped per minute. When tapped, the Weapons Grade crystal emits a pulse which is concentrated during its trip down the barrel and then allowed to travel roughly 1200 yards (Just to put a limit on it) only remaining deadly at 1000 unless a vital is struck.
Finally, we have Source crystals. Source crystals are used to power almost ever moving thing in Yora. Source crystals are huge (compared to Cutting and Weapons Grade) and very bright. They can be tapped rapidly and emit a very, very powerful pulse.
Now that you know that, here is some extra info on the world.
Floating Islands
Floating islands are very rare. The surface is "supposedly" covered in lava, so where these islands continue to come from is a mystery. Generally, floating islands are captures and taxied to nearby Colony Ships. One island of average size (Which isn't very big at all. Perhaps half of a football field in our terms) would make a a bum a millionaire very quickly. Provided he knew how to harvest the crystals. Keep in mind that these islands are rare and people are not above killing for them.
Colony Ships
Colony Ships are massive floating cities. They generally bare the name of the city which their inhabitants originated. Powered by a source crystal and usually surrounded by a dozen Floating Islands, these are nice, peaceful places to live and are generally well defended. But that doesn't mean they haven't been disappearing. . .
The World
Toxic gases are constantly being spewed into the air from the lava below. The surface is supposedly a ocean of lava. Above that is a cloud of deadly gas and more above that are two other layers of gas. A green harmless one, above that a blue harmless one and above that open skies and beautiful clouds.
Land Marks
Centrion crystals are not the only things that float in this world. Known as the Kudon Relic, these pieces of what appear to be a castle are scattered across the globe. They are the remnants of what was once the single most powerful empire ever to exist in Yora. Now, they are little more than a way to find your way around Yora. Additionally, they do not move. Ever. No matter what.
Creatures
Even before the collapse of Yora's surface, many creatures had the gift of flight. Birds, of course who nest on the Kudon Relics, Floating Islands and Colony Ships as well as Sky fish. These curious creatures come in several variants. Small, fish like creatures. These are peaceful and dine on a fungus that is often present near Floating Island. The larger "Snappers". Aggressive sky fish roughly the size of the average personal carrier. These travel in packs and sometimes solo and frequently dine on unsuspecting pilots. And finally, "Sindo"s. These are massive whale like creatures. They travel as family units and are very peaceful. However, their oil is valuable for making machine run smoothly and are often hunted down. They feed on small sky fish and the fungus they eat.
Now, we need some action, don't we? Here it is!
Lately, unbelievably powerful storm systems have been emerging. So powerful, only the most elite of elite pilots can survive them. These storm systems have been swallowing up Colony Ships and sending them downward to the oceans of Lava below, of course, the people would suffocate painfully before they reached a fiery death. These storms however are not random. Rather, it is a single traveling storm. It has been making it's way across Yora and targeting every colony ship along the way. Recently, a elite group of pilots were sent to investigate, but never returned.
Oooooh, scary!
Yeah, so that's it.
I'm thinking we could get like, a lil crew going on. Have a nice carrier ship and a couple of person air-crafts to go with it. We'll get dragged into something and probably solve the mystery of the traveling storm and save the world.
