I really dont want this to be a rant, i'd like any of you to discuss your feelings on it!
If any of you are passionate about leisurely reading, or reading at all.

I hate when people are like "(Insert book) is such s**t! I read it then burned it, because i'm a hardcore douche with my knickers up my a**!"

No matter what book it is, I'm going to be angry and want to slap them.
People in US, Canada, UK, etc. are so spoiled when it comes to wanting a book and getting a book. In the US we have tons of bookstore, and paperbacks are as little as $8

I saw a special on China, where a girl saved her money for 6 months to buy a paperback Harry Potter book, it broke my heart. I also saw a girl who worked in a shampoo factory, and her only means of having something to read was reading the labels they printed on shampoo bottles. (Cant recall her country at this moment)

I dont see why people dont just donate unwanted books to charity, instead of being so careless and selfish to BURN it. Ugh... confused

Ugh, I hate burning books too, especially since I want to be an author. The idea just makes me cringe. At the very least, sell it if you're too selfish to donate! At least let someone get their use out of it. Burning books is such a waste. :/

you've actually met people who've burnt books? Most people I've met are too apathetic to even think of that.

...For me I think it depends on the book.. any book that has been published in anyway (electronic or printed) shouldn't be destroyed... my journals from when I was a kid... Those puppies can BURN.

Yes I have. Usually losers and wannabe anarchists. I need new friends.

@ bold: LOL!! I discovered this too. In 6th grade our teacher made us keep a journal and she made a creative writing topic. My husband laughed so hard reading that thing. Some of the entries were "what would I do if I was a bird" and "love letter to your favourite food" redface

I don't know why anyone would even burn a book o_0 I'm not a reader at the very least, but I figure that you probably shouldn't buy a book if you don't like it (there are libraries anyways so you don't need to buy books usually). Furthermore, burning books is bad for the ozone... gonk

What? 0_0
Nobody has ever told me they've burned a book... The worst is maybe throwing it away, but there's really no need to do that when you can just give it away.

My mother and I are both readers, and we hate books being burned, no matter how crappy the book may be to us. xD (We actually discussed this a couple of days ago. Lol.)
Dad likes to pick at us and threaten to burn our books. We give him a deathglare.

okay, I've changed my mind. I've not only found one book that should be burnt.. I've found an entire series.

Twilight.

I haven't even read them yet, I've just been reading someone's cliffnotes version. All I have to say is Smeyer should have never written them.

Yes! Let's glamorise abusive relationships, manipulation of other people, and the idea that women are and should be weak, stupid and submissive to men.

That is what made me make this, burning Twilight.
And I dont see how any of the books are "abusive" He never raises a hand to Bella (I've read them all) Also Bella is based off a Mary-Sue, shes not "submissive' She is just a why, goody-girl. But she begins to grow out of that in book 3.

He does get weird when she hangs out with the Werewolf bloke, Jakob, because shes a harlot rofl But he still lets her see him -.- If it's a "controlling" aspect you mean by abuse.

In book 2, he saved her form an insane vampire. He was actually out of hte country the whole book, which is why she got close to Jakob. And at the end she got in a battle with a enemy vampire type, and in the nick of time, Edward came and saved her. Awww moments exchanged and all was forgiven.

Also, in book 1-3, Bella wants to be turned into one of them but Edward seriously wants what is best for her and tells her he cant do it. And he wont allow anyone else to to do it either.

I am only going into all this, because i dont get why people say he's abusive, manopulative, and it seems these are adjectives people use quite havily when they havent even read the book. Let alone, the series.

Its not the best series ever, but I read them, and I dont see what all the commotion is about, good and bad commotion.

If I ever met anyone that burned books, I would hunt them down, make them read their least favorite book and tell them to enjoy it and put it on their bookshelf.

I am a published author and I would kill anyone who dared to burn my book or hate it or whatever. Just don't make me sit you down and make you read and enjoy your least favorite book in the world. And I demand to be paid for my trouble of writing it for the world to know about it.

Thank you for starting this, Apple. It makes me feel better knowing that someone cares about literacy in the world besides me.

Are you kidding? How could you NOT see it? There's more to abuse than just beating someone to a pulp. There's also sexual abuse and emotional abuse.

This can expain it better than I ever could.

That entire site is written from an already biased view, she probably was in the whole "Anti-Twilight" thing before this, therefore looking for reasons. Most of this is totally taken OUT of context.

In the book, Bella DOES have low-self esteem, but when she gets with Edward, she feels pretty. The fact his aesthetically beautiful family likes her and spends time with her often ALSO makes her feel good.

He has never laid a hand on her, he never pressured her into sex or anything more than a kiss, and though their relationship is slightly co-dependent, a lot of teenagers do this. Never did Meyer claim that this was a "Model Romance" as the person of that blog said.

But these are my opinions, obviously though you've not yourself read the books, I guess you have your opinions too.

This thread was NOT about twilight, i merely gave that book as an example since right now it's a fad and attracts weird people who make it their life to slander the book and author. As well as saying they "burn" the books.

I do not wish to further conversate about Twilight here, please take it to one of the many Anti-Twilight threads in the book forum.

If it is what inspired you to start this discussion, then you should have figured it would have come up sooner or later.

Why start a discussion if you refuse to discuss things with those who disagree with you? That's not discussion. That's just patting yourself on the back.

Actually, I didnt even bring it up.
You did. But yeah, it did inspire this topic.

And what we're doing is not a discussion, it's an argument.
Which is why it's ending.
