Appearance: Daniel

Daniel groaned as he got out of the packed minivan. He was dressed in camo cargo pants and a Static-X t-shirt, complete with boots and socks. He pulled out his sunglasses as the sun glared and put them on. He looked around the vast, expansive plains around, sighing as he noted that, like always, it was flat. For some reason, that expansive flatness for miles added to just how boring the area was.

Daniel turned around, finally facing their destination, the only source of amusement within a couple hundred miles: an amusement park. This place held special value to him: he came here every summer, just like now. The sun above was blistering and the air was thick with humidity, but, alas, he had grown accustomed to the climate after a few years. So he wasn't having a problem.

Daniel stretched his legs, thankful to be out of the torturing confinement of the minivan, looking back. It was a group of his friends, all smiling and looking up at the amusement park. They, too, held special memories here. Daniel counted the heads and noticed one was missing. He leaned into the minivan to find Maria passed out in the back. He didn't know whether to smirk or grimace. It was amusing to see her still in her confined pose despite her being left alone in the van, but it was annoying that she was able to sleep at all.

Daniel whistled loudly while simultaneously nudging the minivan, making it move only slightly, in an attempt to wake her up. "Oooiiii!" Daniel cried out to her, "We're heeeere! Wake uuuuup!"

There came a loud groan from the backseat of the minivan, then when Daniel least expected it, the sound of a book hitting the tinted window with a loud thud. After a few minutes Maria surfaced from the van her hair a mess, clutching her white apple laptop in one arm as she shifted her reading glasses with the other. She glared at Daniel lightly before yawning. She stretched her arms out, careful to hold onto the computer before sitting down on the ground. "Give me two seconds," she said as she flipped open the laptop settled on her legs. She turned the power on with the click of a button and then proceeded to run through the internet and then through her e-mails. Running a website was tough work and it didn't help having idiots like Daniel bugging her every who knows how long. Although, despite this unattractive fact that she still had to do some work, she was pleased. Pleased to be able to visit old memories with old friends. 'It has had to have been at least a few years since we've been here,' she thought as she readjusted her glasses on her head. Maria scanned the messages and then the website for any comments before shutting the piece of equipment off. She then disappeared back into the van only to hide her prized possession.

Once finished, she resurfaced, stretched again, yawned again and smiled lightly at the feel of the warm wind on her bare, uncovered arms. The wind whipped her medium length brown hair and rustled her purple t-shirt and worn out jeans. It felt good to be out of the musty vehicle. "Well, thank God that hell ride is over!" she mused playfully as she turned to examine the sight before her eyes. They won't have to wait long to enjoy the carnival of lights, sounds and sights. Some part of her would never get over the fun that they always seemed to have at this place.

Remembering something she had forgotten, Maria slipped her hand into her pocket to pull out a folded, colourful flyer. "It looks like they have a few new attractions this year," she smiled, flipping out the piece of paper into a huge map of the fun land. She purposefully bumped Daniel with her hip as she showed him the newly revised theme park. "They have a few new water slides, an awesome fun house, which mind you, I want to see when we get the chance, and a couple of roller-coasters." Her finger slid across the map to spot out the largest attraction. "Its supposedly the fastest, scariest, longest, tallest and more exhilarating ride in America!" The title of such a fearsome ride was none other then 'Fear Mountain'.

"I'm sure that's the first thing you want to check out!" Maria chuckled. Too bad she wasn't a fan of the loop-de-loops. In her opinion, roller-coasters were great and to be saved until last where carnival games game first.

One interesting detail came to her mind in an instant and she began to explore the white text. "It also looks like they have a few magic shows going on throughout the day and a huge fireworks special just after dark!" That reminded her of something. "We are going to see everything right? We do have a week after all!"

Daniel moved his head out of the van when he saw a flying object, only to discover it was a book and it was -supposedly- aimed at the window. Daniel mimicked her voice as she spoke, opening and closing his hand, imitating a mouth.

The other friends chuckled at Daniel and Maria's shenanigans, they knew each other longer than anyone else. After all, they grew up on the same block when they were kids, that is, until Daniel had to move across town. But, considering that was barely a mile, it wasn't too bad.

Daniel leaned against the minivan, waiting for Maria to come out, and when she finally did he pushed himself off, muttering an 'About time' before being hip-bumped by the brunette. In response, Daniel snatched the map out of her map and hip-bumped her back, except because of the fact he was a wee bit bigger than her, his bump was harder.

Daniel began walking towards the entrance to the whole place, acting as if he didn't do anything. He began scanning the map for various amusements. As he searched, he discovered blasphemy. He gasped dramatically, and looked back at the group, wide-eyed.

"They took it away,"
he simply said, making the rest of his friends c**k an eyebrow, "They tore down the Timber Wolf! That was my first roller coaster, man!" Daniel looked back at the map, scanning as if trying to find out he was mistaken.

There was a moment of silence before one of the guys just began laughing. "Dude," he chuckled, "They tore that thing down years ago. Remember? You watched them tear it down.... actually, now that I think about it, it was the only time I ever watched you cry."

"Excluding George Carlin's death," another friend chipped in, earning a glare from Daniel. "That day shall never be spoken of," Daniel said, scanning the group of friends, looking utterly serious, before walking back to the entrance. After an awkward moment, he looked back at them, acting again like nothing happened. "Are you guys coming or what?"

Maria had attempted at least two times to try and grab the map back but to no avail. So, having given up, she chose to walk beside Daniel staring over his shoulder on her tip-toes to check out the map again for herself. She jumped back when Daniel stopped suddenly.

"They took it away,"

"Took what away?" Maria asked with a hint of confusion.

"They tore down the Timber Wolf! That was my first roller coaster, man!" Daniel looked back at the map, scanning as if trying to find out he was mistaken.

Maria cocked an eye brow at her friend and tilted her head to the side. She was just about to comment when one of the others had chipped in to deliver the bad news. He did so in laughter. "Dude," he chuckled, "They tore that thing down years ago. Remember? You watched them tear it down.... actually, now that I think about it, it was the only time I ever watched you cry."

Maria nodded. "Timber Wolf has been gone for what, three years now?" she chimed in.

She couldn't help but chuckle a little. "Boys and their toys," she murmured shaking her head.

"Excluding George Carlin's death," another friend chipped in, earning a glare from Daniel.

"Hey, I remember that! The guy was a good comedian!" She then hooked her arm around Daniel's neck and smiled softly.

"That day shall never be spoken of,"

"Awh com'on Danny, stop being so serious! Have little fun," she mused, letting go before twirling around on the ball of her heel.

Everyone else seemed to have stopped for a moment. They watched Daniel in his seriousness before he turned back on his personality, acting like nothing happened.

"Are you guys coming or what?"

"Heck yeah, why would I miss something like this!?"

"Well then come on!" Daniel replied in a funny voice before turning around very oddly. He slowed his pace a bit to let the others catch up, all the while going back into the usual shenanigans and tomfoolery. Make fun of one friend, make fun of another, make fun of Maria, make fun of another, make fun of Maria, make fun of Daniel, and so on and so forth.

The latest shenanigans that was happening as they reached the gates to the park was a game of Monkey-In-The-Middle, with Daniel being on one side, another friend at the other, and another being the monkey. They paused their shenanigans at the teller, unfortunately giving the opportunity for the monkey to take back his hat.

"Uh, that'll be, uh..."
Daniel said as he approached the counter, only to turn around and actually count the heads again before turning back to the teller, "Eight tickets, por favor."

Only then did Daniel notice the... bizarre nature of the teller. It was a man, but he was old and withering, and a glazed and misty eye pointed far in the wrong direction. Many of his teeth was missing, and it looked like he hadn't had an opportunity to shave in a while.

"Beware..."
he hoarsely whispered in an eerie tone, causing fear to even impact Daniel, despite the ridiculousness of the man, "This place is cursed... once the sun begins to fall, flee! Flee before they take you..." The teller then glanced around, obviously to check if 'they' were listening. In the meantime, Daniel turned around to everyone, crossing his eyes and stuck out his tongue, indicating he was sure the guy was nutso. This alleviated the mood a bit, making a few guys chuckle.

"Look, can we just get the tickets?" Daniel asked as he turned back to the creepy old man, only to see an empty booth. Confused (and a little shocked), he turned back to his group of friends, pointing to the empty booth. They, too, apparently failed to notice his disappearing act. Daniel turned back to the booth, trying to look around it and see if he saw the old man sneaking away or something. Nothing. Daniel turned to Maria, confused.

"Did you see any-AH!" Daniel said/screamed as a meek little female voice spoke up from the booth. Daniel whipped around wildly, making more than a few people chuckle. The meek teenager, she looked about their age, was startled to find Daniel looking wildly at her.

"Jesus!" Daniel exclaimed, "What is it with this place that just makes people appear out of thin air?!" Daniel sensed one of his friends opening his mouth to object, so he pointed over his shoulder at him. "Silence. Now, did some mental patient or something with a blind eye pointed way off to the side escape here and harassed people or something?"

Daniel gesticulated wildly as he spoke, causing the little girl to look even more afraid. She looked as if she was wondering if Daniel was the one who escaped from a loony bin.

The group was off to the usual thing, annoying one another, taunting and teasing. She even had her go once and a while when they decided to steal her reading glasses from the top of her head and wear it, making little, fun loving comments about being 'four-eyed'. This brought about the snatch and grab from Maria who attempted, and failed to grab the glasses before it was passed to the next person.Only a few minutes later did they give up on her, allowing her to grab the glasses before taunting someone else.

Maria shook her head, they guys were great it just seemed to drag on too long for her, annoying her only slightly. Soon it was Daniel's turn to feel the wrath of the group's games and then it was someone else and someone else again. Maria had kept a short distance from the pack, trying to stay out of the line of fire. Something mysterious caught her eye from a distance. She turned her head to see what appeared to be a shadowy figure disappear behind one of the other booths. She shivered, suddenly gaining chilling goosebumps on her skin. She felt at least two degrees colder now. Blinking, she attempted to calm her mind of the silly illusion.

"Uh, that'll be, uh..." Maria could hear Daniel speak to the booth owner. She looked around nervously as the group continued to pick on one another. "Hey Maria, catch!" one yelled, tossing the hat over to her. She was so preoccupied with her thoughts that the monkey was able to snatch his hat back, thus ending the game in boos. "Hey Maria! EARTH TO MARIA!" one yelled in her ear. "Hey!" she snapped turning around to yell at the idiot. "That was in my hear!"

"Eight tickets, por favor."

Maria turned to look at Daniel again as he talked to the person at the booth. He seemed suddenly unhinged from the conversation. Maria cocked an eyebrow and then shoved the nearest guy out of the way. That's when Daniel turned around and crossed his eyes and stuck out his tongue. Maria rolled her eyes as some of the guys hooted and laughed. For a split second she could see the figure disappear from the booth or so she had deemed an optical illusion.

"Look, can we just get the tickets?" Daniel had missed the disappearing person. 'Maybe it wasn't my imagination?' Maria mulled, knitting her eye brows when Daniel turned to look at her. He seemed frightened to her. Maria shrugged her shoulders silently when he looked at her.

"Did you see any-AH!"

Maria jumped. "DANIEL!" she yelled thumping over to her friend at the booth. "What the heck are you doing?"

"Jesus!" Daniel exclaimed, "What is it with this place that just makes people appear out of thin air?!" He had apparently ignored her. Maria crossed her arms over her chest.

"Silence. Now, did some mental patient or something with a blind eye pointed way off to the side escape here and harassed people or something?"

Maria rolled her eyes in her head. "Of course not! Why would we pick up on anything that suspicious!" she replied in a sarcastic tone to hide her sudden jitters. 'So he saw it too...' she wasn't about to admit it though.

"Come on Daniel. Just pay for the tickets and let's go in already!" One person from the group yelled at him. "Hurry up, we're wasting day light!"

Maria sighed. She was going to be stuck with them for the day, the goofy idiots. It wouldn't be too bad, would it? She wondered shaking her head. Maria pushed past Daniel and grabbed the money from his. "Don't mind him, he's just unwinding. You know, kids and sugar?" she chuckled as she paid for the tickets. She then handed everyone in the group one, saving the last two for herself and Daniel. Then, everyone went through the mechanic, door revolver and had their hands stamped after their tickets were torn.

"Don't forget to check out the late night fire works!" commented the employee cheerful. "They're a spectacular event to die for!"
PostPosted: Mon Feb 22, 2010 7:41 pm

Daniel ignored the protests from the friends as he looked confused at the equally-confused teller. Well, that was until Maria snatched his wallet and took out the money to pay. She then came up with some lame comment about kids and sugar. Daniel rolled his eyes and snatched his ticket from her, giving her a small tap on the head.

Of course, this earned a few jokes from the immature assholes of the group who deemed that Maria and Daniel should get together. Why was it that if a guy and a girl know each other for an extended period of time, everyone assumed they should be together? Daniel would have to ask his friends that someday. After they regained the ability to coherently speak.

"Domestic abuse!" one cried out before receiving a much swifter and harder swat to the head, eliciting a small cry of pain. A few others made smartass comments, only to be smacked around by Daniel. Once they were in the main area and everyone stopped teasing each other, they began to look around.

"Where should we..." Daniel began before discovering both him and Maria had been ditched by their friends, who apparently had prearranged pairs without Daniel's or Maria's consent. Daniel groaned as he began rubbing the bridge of his nose.

"So..."
Daniel started, "Since it's just the two of us left, where should we go first?" Where everyone will think we're a couple, he added mentally, groaning again. Stupid assumptions.

"Hey, what the heck was that for?" Maria retorted when Daniel smacked her across the back of the head. Obviously Daniel didn't know his own strength. Maria mumbled to herself as she rubbed the back of her head and soon after released a sigh and a head shake. The guys were already eating up the little scenario making comments on the love-birds. There was nothing she could do about it so she tried to shrug it off as best as she could.

At least Daniel was trying. Every stupid comment on a relationship would receive a good, hard slap. It might have seemed playful enough but in all reality, they were not a couple. So Maria had thought of it before but she shrugged it off. She knew they were just friends and that was probably the best way to stay. Besides, her and Daniel were close as friends, there was no need to worry about a relationship at this point. The only problem was.

"Where the hell did they go off to?" Maria cursed as she suddenly noticed that everyone else had vanished. She cursed a few more times under her breath before sighing. 'Immature assholes. If this is their idea of a blind date they're as good as six feet under!' Her frustration slowly subsided as she came to terms with reality. 'Oh well, its not like I'm paired with the devil or anything,' she noted mentally.

"So..." Daniel started, "Since it's just the two of us left, where should we go first?"

Daniel had snapped Maria out of her thoughts quick enough. She paused a moment to look around the park. She then proceeded to snatch the map back from Daniel and open it wide before them. "Well, you know my philosophy, games first rides last," she chuckled lightly as she ran through the list. "But why don't we do something a little more exciting before we get down to the prize winning stuff?"

After a few minutes of decision, because it was always hard for Maria to make up her mind, she choose the go karts. "We'll hit the bigger stuff later," she assumed. "As long as that's fine with you." Always the team player. After all, they would get nowhere if they didn't try to agree on something or compromise.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 23, 2010 8:22 am

After Maria snatched away the map, Daniel peered over her shoulder to look at the map. His eyes were lingering on the new attraction, Fear Mountain, but figured she wouldn't appreciate if he just overrode everything she not only said but also believed in, and dragged her to the one attraction. At least with the whole group they could have voted on it so it wasn't one person's fault directly.

When the go-karts were chosen, Daniel immediately gained a mischievous gleam in his eye. If the other guys were here, they would be immediately overjoyed, knowing that that look in his eye meant he was thinking bad thoughts. But alas, he was with Maria.

It wasn't like he'd actually go through with this thought, though. It was a bit too destructive, even for him. After all, jousting in go-karts could destroy expensive equipment and get them kicked out of the park for a lifetime. He personally didn't want that.

As Daniel began idly walking towards the go-karts with Maria, he picked up bits of conversation from the surprisingly few people in the park. He heard rumors of disappearances and murders. Kids going missing for months before being found as nothing more than skeletal remains. After hearing a fourth story about someone dying, Daniel turned to Maria.

"Did you hear anything about disappearances or anything?" he asked, confused. Because he sure as hell heard nothing of the sort.

The weather was perfect for go-karting or riding any other amusement rides. It was a cloudless sky with a bright, warm sun hovering above them and cool winds. Maria had caught the glint in Daniel's eye. "Oh no, what are you thinking?" she asked out loud shaking her head at what would only be assumed as a 'bad idea'. She then rolled up the paper and smacked Daniel lightly across the back of his head. "No destructive thoughts," she chuckled as she unwound and folded the paper properly, back into its original hand held brochure form.

They were on their way when Daniel started talking to her about disappearances. She had overheard a few of the conversations herself however she had shrugged them off unlike Daniel who seemed to grow more anxious with every new story.

"Did you hear anything about disappearances or anything?"

Maria shuddered and shook her head. "N-not that I remember..." she mumbled looking away from him. "All I remember was the one year they found a guy in the dunk tank, dead. He had smacked his head off of the backboard and drowned. It was said to be an accident." Maria sighed. "There are bound to be a few deaths here and there. After all you are taking a risk when you go on some of these rides," she added in shrugging her shoulders. She couldn't help but have a nagging feeling at the back of her mind as if she had forgotten something.

Before the conversation could drift on to more gruesome details Maria pointed out the race track. "There it is!" She chimed in happily, glad to leave the conversation behind unless Daniel wanted to try and pick it up again. "Hey, we're in luck! The line's short!" she mused.

Maria felt herself freeze for a moment. 'That's right...looking around now...there doesn't seem to be as many people here than from the previous years...' she shrugged off the thought while trying to maintain her energetic smile.

"How about a bet?" she asked Daniel suddenly in line. "Whoever comes in first place has to buy the other lunch?"

The line was moving at a slow place. There seemed to be few on the track but more waiting in the line. Fortunately, there were only a few people in front of them so they wouldn't be waiting long.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 23, 2010 3:34 pm

Upon hearing the bet, Daniel pshawed. "Oh come on, Maria," he said, "That just wouldn't be fair. I don't want to have you buying everything." Daniel spread his arms wide as if demonstrating everything she would buy. Oh yeah, Daniel just accepted the challenge.

Daniel got into the line and sat on the iron railing, waiting for the line to hurry up and get to them. He looked around, noting the lack of people in the amusement park. He remembered the place being packed when he was a kid, so it seemed kind of eerie now. Couple that with the fact that any amusement park or carnival of any kind being nigh-deserted was creepy, and the place just began to feel more like a place for Halloween than anything else.

"So..."
Daniel said, trying to break the silence, "What's been up with you lately? I haven't heard much since graduation. I see you're still running that website." Daniel didn't really know what to say, so he just fell back on the usual boring conversations.

Maria hip checked Daniel again as he made his proclamation of winning. "Nu uh!" Maria replied, "More like you'll be buying me a whole bunch of everything!" she chuckled lightly as she cut in front of him in line.

The wait was sort of quiet and slow. Daniel didn't say much leaving Maria to wander in her own thoughts. She still had that nagging feeling at the back of her head like she was forgetting something but she couldn't recall what it was which made it all the more frustrating. At least she didn't have to think about it much more seeing how Daniel was attempting to strike up a conversation.

"So..." Maria clued into the conversation and out of her own thoughts. She thanked him quietly in her mind for taking her thoughts from the feeling to something more earthly. "What's been up with you lately? I haven't heard much since graduation. I see you're still running that website." At least he was trying even if the conversation was rather dull.

Maria leaned against the iron bars, hooking her arms around the very top one. "Well, after grad I decided to stay back a year and try to save up money for college," she began slowly piecing the rest of her reply together. "I've managed to get a job as a waitress down in Seasons restaurant. The tips are good and there are many hours." She nodded. "Yup, same old website and it still generates some income for me so its not going anywhere. I think I need to revamp it soon. Some of the buttons are glitchy and the appearance needs to be freshened up." She smiled at Damien as she moved with the line to the front.

"How about yourself? You seemed to have dropped off the face of the earth after grad."
