I made a passing mention of this thread in the Roleplay 101 thread under the Character Development subheading.

A Mary Sue, or Gary Stu for you male characters, is the perfect, idealized character who's super-beautiful, super-smart, super-strong, and super-popular, to make it a short and sweet definition.

I figured it would be fun to take our characters and see just how Mary-Sueish they are according to the Mary Sue Litmus Test. You have to answer honestly, otherwise your result will be skewed and it will be of no use to you.
Script version - this one you can take and have the answers tallied for you.
Unscripted version - this one, you tally your answers for yourself. Make sure you have a pen and paper nearby.

This test is not the end-all, be-all on whether or not you have a Sue on your hands. A well-made character can score high on the test and still be a non-Sue. It's all circumstantial. But what if you don't have those circumstances and you still scored high? You probably have a Sue.

Now go take the test when you have the time!
Then, after you've taken it, be sure to come back here and post your result(s)! That way we can have a laugh, and offer up some tips and ideas to help each other out.

It's mostly for fun, but man, it sure can be an eye opener!

I'll go first for sake of example.

I used Katarina. My Litmus score was 31.
Here's what the range had to say:

Mary Sue Litmus results
21-35 points: Borderline-Sue. Your character is cutting it close, and you may want to work on the details a bit, but you're well on your way to having a lovely original character. Good work.

However, Kat is a very old vampire. She's had centuries to build up her knowledge pools and skill wells. She's also changed her name since she was born and Turned. Partly because it's in her society's culture to take the name of the siring vampire's clan, and partly because she's moved across many countries over the centuries, and eventually stuck with the Germanic/Serbian/Swedish form of her original name, Katharine.

She does have my taste in music, but mostly for the classical and those genres heavily inspired by classical music. She's not so fond of all the rock, metal, country, and Jpop/Jrock I listen to.

And contrary to the contemporary belief that vampires are beautiful, Kat really has to make a concerted effort to make herself look as attractive as a female vampire from, say, Anne Rice. Which is not to say she's incapable of seduction. *laughs* The woman can seduce just as well as any other vampire. She just has to rely mainly on her speechcraft instead of her physical appearance. (Besides, I personally prefer a snappily dressed, Mafia boss-like female vamp to the usual Victorian vamp, no offense to you Victorian-like ladies. xD)

Gah! I'm not exactly sure what a Mary Sue is, but I think it's bad. I got 93! ; x;

71 points or more: Irredeemable-Sue.
You're going to have to start over, my friend. I know you want to keep writing, but no. Just no.

Edit: Sorry if this is cheating but I did the test again. .-.;;;
36-55 points: Mary-Sue.
Your character needs some work in order to be believable. But despair not; you should still be able to salvage her with a little effort. Don't give up.

*laughs* Remember, guys, that it's not an end-all, be-all. Many of your points could be written away as circumstantial, and for most of us, that's Vampirism or Immortality. It's quite possible to have a character who scores horribly high on this test and yet still have them written well enough to be non-Sues.

For vampires, and many other immortals, we can write away quite a few points in the skills and intelligence department, since it's an understood rule that vampires, like the best forged swords, never really lose their edge. Intelligence and skills are compounded over the years.
However, a vampire still has preferences. Kat, for example, is a science buff and markswoman. She could tell you, in chronological order, who ruled England from the first royalty to now, or solve a calculus problem written by a mathematics geek without using a calculator. She could fence with the elite of the sport, or KO Mike Tyson. But she chooses to excel in science and marksmanship.

As long as your character seems and acts enough like a real person, the chances are, they're not going to be such drastic Sues as this test will tell you. *nod*

-Smile's- Never really thought about it that way, When you said you put every detail into you're character's you weren't Kidding, I do actually admire that, Not most, nor many do that that I know of.
I wonder what Noir would scored if he took this test?
But seeing how he never comes on that account anymore. We'll probably never know.
