for avatars like mycatofluv's then you go to tektek.org and click Dream Avatar and then start and then its straightforward~
Another way--like I did in my profile--go on photobucket.com and find a picture by searching up stuff like
"Anime girl with blonde or brown hair"
then you fid a picture,
click on it,
fin the tab that says share when mousing over the pic,
click it,
click more options,
copy&paste the forums and message code in the link code tab,
AND YOU GOT A PIC!

You can put a picture in your own PhotoBucket account and resize it. Other than that, you're stuck with a huge picture. Sorry.
