Skills: Proficient in swordsmanship and flash step. Has a basic understanding of kidou. He is primarily left handed (he usually swings his weapon with his left hand), but can use his right hand to a good extent. Because of his Bankai training, he has learned to read reitsu quite well.
Special Items: Quincy Cross, he believed the Shinigami should have co-existed with the Quincy. He keeps the Cross as a trinket, but does not have the ability to use it.

Shikai Description: Riku's katana becomes a shortsword about 20 inches in total length and with no curve. The diamond pattern on the grip appears worn, with the colors hardly distinguishable from each other. The guard is removed, making it appear almost more like a knife rather than a shortsword. 100 needles 6 inches long surround him. They appear to be made of normal steel, like any sword. They are thickest in the center and taper down to either end, making them perfectly symmetric.
Shikai Abilities: Riku can use the needles to attack quickly, from many directions, and in an extremely wide area. He can tie the needles together, or with his sword, with his reitsu. By doing this, he can make them attack with more unison and make a stronger attack, or use this ability to make a reitsu rope to restrain an opponent. He can use this ability to string all of his needles together and fight with it as a kind of whip. Riku's attacks in shikai focus primarily on a large range of effectiveness, along with speed. This style allows him to hit his opponent with a stream of rapid attacks to limit the amount of actions they can perform. But, since he has so many needles active, he can also plan short, quick attacks followed by more powerful combined ones. Riku's shikai focuses very little on defensive action, and instead keeps on the offensive with longer ranged attacks.
Bankai Description: The needles shatter. The air speeds up and condenses into 500 new needles 12 inches long each, using the fragments of each as cores. The wind surrounding the wind surrounding the needles moves at a speed of about 200 MPH. The sword shatters as well, the blade pieces join the needles, but the hilt attaches itself to Riku's wrists and forms two large needle-blades extending from underneath his wrists; each extends 15 inches from the base of his wrists (think of the assassin's blade from Assassin's Creed).
Bankai Abilities: Since the weapons have less mass, they weigh much less and so can move much faster than before; and since they are made of wind that is moving at extremely rapid speeds, they have become super sharp. Riku can shape the wind around multiple cores, making larger needles with more piercing power, but the extra weight will slow it down based on the amount of cores present; he can also form the needles around his wrist blades in order to make his wrist blades more powerful in order to perform a head on attack. Riku can release the charge within the wind and turn the needles into miniature bolts of lightning, this form can only be held for about a minute though, but it will allow his attacks to become much quicker and more powerful during that period; there is a major drawback to the move, however, the attack consumes a lot of the needles' energy, and therefore weakens any subsequent attacks in terms of speed and power by about 10%. He can only use this ability once per release. Riku can also string the needles together like in Shikai, but this time with wind instead of reitsu; with this, he can turn his weapon into a giant wind-whip, or he can form form an area of extremely dense torrents of wind to change the course of objects flying towards him.
Riku's zanpaku-to's main advantage is its speed; it is the wind itself condensed into a form which has an edge, which makes it lightning fast, but sacrifices power. What also makes the weapon so great in the number of needles, which means that it can perform multiple, multi-directional attacks in order to limit the ability of his opponent's blocks, and instead force him to move, which can open him for another attack of the same kind.

Shikai Description:
A knife 8" long bejeweled at the pommel with a topaz. No guard.
Shikai Abilities:
The knife draws Riku's own blood to use it as a medium. Riku can make his blood move any way he wishes. If it comes in contact with his any flesh, it will cause bleeding to occur from the spot, the more blood, the more bleeding, and the more pain.
Bankai Description:
A Scimitar 30" in length, still with a topaz at the pommel. The guard extends to cover the top of the wielder's hand.
Bankai Abilities:
Like the shikai, it still uses the owners blood as a medium to cause the opponent to bleed. But, in addition, when the blood of another person mixes with the wielder's blood on the blade, Riku gains limited control over the person's body with movements of his blade. For example, he can bind someone to the ground or throw them across a room, but he does not have control over the finer details of the person, i.e. he cannot make the person's heart stop or make them think that stabbing themselves is a good idea.
History: Riku grew up an orphan along with his sister who was 2 years older than him. They worked mediocre jobs as children and adults. As teens, they grew farther apart as Riku held a cold personality, and his sister fell in love. Riku felt as if he should grow more distant from his sister and her lover in order to avoid being scarred if he happened to lose them, this eventually brought them to part ways when Riku was 18. He steadily gained more money by himself and began living a more settled life. He decided to track down his sister and make amends with his only family tie in the world. He found her and her lover living in the slums of Kyoto. They tried persuading each other to live with each other for a week. They came to no agreement, so Riku was about to head back to Nagasaki. As he was leaving, a small gang attacked him, but his sister was able to stop them, after revealing her Quincy powers. One of the gang members was able to shoot and severely wound Riku's sister before passing out. She gave Riku her Quincy cross and told him to go to the hideout, she sensed a few hollows coming and said Riku would be safe with the Quincy for a while, then she died. Riku followed her instructions, but was unable to reach the hideout in time. He was killed and nearly eaten by a hollow, who claimed that he had already eaten his sister. He was saved by a shinigami as he was trying to escape and sent to Soul Society. He ended up in one of the middle districts of the West side. Eventually, he decided to become a shinigami and fight hollows like the ones who killed his sister. He was accepted into Soul Academy after several months of applying, where he was a well above average student. He graduated on time and trained steadily thereafter.
RP History:
-Assisted the shinigami against the fight against the Fallen; didn't end up helping much since he could only use Shikai.
-won his first match in a tournament held by Sado Evans.
-attained Bankai, and advanced reitsu sensing because of it.
-Fought Kaine Uzumaki and lost.
