A History Lesson

Eighty three years ago there was a massive war aptly named the Great War. During that time the government ran tests on human soldiers aimed to make them stronger faster and smarter. The tests were an utter failure. But soon the decedents of those one hundred and twenty seven who were experimented on and survived began to show some interesting symptoms. Over the years much was discovered about these people. They knew that the reason for their special powers was, when the original experiments were preformed a doormat part of the brain was awakened but it didn’t seem to really do anything. But when this was passed on to their children it released a hormone during puberty that caused ones powers to be awakened. Like most adolescence it is difficult to control at first but once they got the hang of it many uses became apparent.

The public soon grew to fear these special few whose powers were triggered and the government grew to revere them. Many chose to fight on the front lines and defend their country. Though the war was won thanks to those who chose to help, the government didn’t falter to announce them ‘Missing in action’.

Now in the year 2094 and the ‘Awakened’ are hated by all normal humans. Some have even been placed in camps. The camps are horrible places where hope goes to die. The food is rotten and the guards take any excuse to get rid of an Awake. If anyone tries to escape they are killed without second thought. Things are steadily going downhill for the Awakened and things are only getting worse. The only question is.

General Knowledge

Some things you should know.

1. Awakened can work for the government and try to track down the rebels but they might be disposed of later on.
2. Each Awakened has a unique power though some can be very similar.
3. All normal humans are afraid or hate the Awakened so most don’t use their powers in public.
4. It is hard but it is possible to escape the camps but once you do you are listed as Wanted.
5. The freedom fighters call them The Enlightened and the leader is known as Vigilo though his real name is not known.
6. There is a secret society under the government know as the Sand Men though their existence is debated.
7. The Hunters carry collars that neutralize the parts of the brain that cause powers these are also used in camps. they make the host of the powers unable to use them.
8. Sand men have special pills that they take that block signals going to their brains that make them immune to mind based attacks.

Recorded History: As a child Annexus was born in a camp. Her father was able to barley escape with her but her mother died during the process. Seeking refuge from the Hunters on their trail she was taken to the Enlightened as her father left to mislead the hunters. He was killed in the process and she lived amongst the rebels ever since.

Recorded History: Grew up with the Enlightened. Is a loner who doesn't really deal with people well because her control on her powers is iffy. She has parents somewhere, no one really knows where though. She tends to sit alone singing to herself.

Known power: He can change the images and signals in a person's mind, making them see, hear, smell, feel, even taste, whatever he wants them to, though the reality can still be sensed.
Recorded History: Raised inside the camps, and left without any hope for most of his life, Gareth witnessed an attempted escape, and was mistakenly shot, or not so much so. He was hurt badly across his entire body, and the 'doctor's' solution was to bandage him, covering almost all his skin but his eyes, mouth, and fingers.

Recorded History: Her father was a highly renowned scientist who was bent on finding a way to stabilize her powers. Her mother left them long before that. The local authorities caught word of it and dragged him who knows where. Ever since, Elle has been locked up, still planning her escape, and revenge for her father.

Recorded History: No one ever remembers him, they've all killed themseves. He's not too much of a talker and the last people to see him were regular doctors. They died. He tries hard to control his power, but it doesn't seem to be working well. He has to force himself to fell the emotions to not have people kill themselves.

Recorded History: Isabell’s mum died giving birth to her and no one knows who her dad was. So her aunt Kim (on her mum’s side) took her in and treated her with as much kindness as a real mum and dad. When Isabell found out about her powers, bad stuff started to happen, soon people got suspicious and found out! A Hunter came to take her away, but instead of taking Isabell(who was working) they took her aunt, she took the blame saying it was her with the powers not Isabell. Isabell found a little note on a fridge of what happened telling her to run and she did. They think they have Isabell at the moment.

Recorded History: She was a female fighter who got payed to win matches against other fighters in back alley fight zones. However, one night a gun was pulled and several people were murdered for no reason. Naturally, when the gun was pointed in her direction she killed the shooter and his friends. She faced life in prison after being captured. But, the goverment offered her a way out in the form of being a hunter. That is, after they heard about her 20 cop knock out streak. She now has more than just her fists to do the job. She carries around two pistols and a katana for added protection.

Recorded History: Daikoto was raised in a military household, all of his known family were somehow involved with the military in one way or the other. His older brother, Akira, was killed during his job as a hunter. His brother had been climbing his way to the top until the accident. Now Daikoto feels much aggression towards the death of his brother and has taken up the job of a hunter to make sure such a thing never happens again.

A girl stood on a cliff outcropping. Her long blond hair blew in front of her as the wind blew from the east. She looked down at the Enlighteneds camp site in the forest below. They were only around three hundred miles from Seattle. With an almost invisible flick of her wrist the large bolder lifted off the cliff and levitated the several hundred feet to the ground. Jumping down from the rock she smiled and took a breath of fresh air.

Annexus spotted someone down on the forest floor but could not see who it was. She decided to investigate, thinking it might be a Hunter. But in stead she found a fellow Resistance fighter. “Hello Elise. What are you doing so far from base camp?” Her words were impish but friendly.

Annexus giggled. “I understand. It is tempting. We are all so fragile.” She shrugged and sat down a few from her. “Even the smallest tragedy can turn a perfectly sane person into a feces-eating loony.” She laughed darkly. “Though I think out kinds minds are much stronger then the normal’s.”

Annexus shrugged. She seemed to be unwelcome. “I know what you meant.” She sighed and jumped pack up on her bolder. Raising her palm towards the sky, the bolder lifted off the ground and levitated back to camp. She jumped down and began to search for the leader she knew as Vigilo.
