Okay guys, this is how it works. If you join in the first year, you are Year One. Every month (in real life) is a new semester, or Year, for anyone.
For example.
Alucard, School of Death, Level 1, is Year One right now. Then the next month, he would be Year Two. Then Year Three e.t.c.
Everytime you pass an important exam or do something that sparks a teachers attention, you will recieve a Notation. If by the end of a Year, you have ten or fifteen or whatever amount of Notations, you will be placed in the Honors System, and be brought up a level. You will also be able to learn harder spells
Example:
Alucard received ten Notations at the end of Year One. He was placed in the Honors System. Level 2.
