I'll this question the best I can and someone else. Will most likely fill in some of the gaps I misses. By looking at the subject from a different angle.

Reoccurring dreams don't always have some higher meaning. They are projections of your mind. Though, even that point is debated by some.

Something I've noticed in my own experienced with re-occuring dreams. Is, the dream is not exactly the same as it was previously. I've had dreams like this. That have been as close to each other or as far apart as a full decade. But, the reason why I know it is a reoccuring dream. Is because in the dream. I have memory of whatever is happening happening before. I'm sure this is the same for you.

Another reason why you can connect one dream to another. Is because you remember the dream afterwords. This is not always the case so a connection can not always be made. But, it is not exactly the same dream. There will be differences between the two of them. I'm not just speaking of how you react. But also in what you see, touch, smell, hear and feel.

I can't explain the psychological significances. Because psychology is a subject I know little about. What I can relay is my first hand knowledge of a similar experience. This is not a spiritual event you have experienced. I can tell you that with fair certainty.

Recurring dreams usually mean something has happened you either have not dealt with or you can't let go of something. You can try checking a dream dictionary for clues (look up the most poignant parts of the dream) but ultimately it's only a guide as symbolism is highly personal. Some things are typically accepted as "universal" such as dreath is said to mean change, etc. From what you've described it sounds like a recurring theme that points to worry; worry over control, whether or not you have control and what you will do to gain it.

dreams reflect reality, whatever you do awake usually transfers over to your dreams. perhaps you could examine your life awake and come up with an answer.

sometimes dreams can reflect how you feel about something or someone too. like for example i was having dreams with my friend raven in them, each one a different theme, but in each dream he would hurt me, accidentally or otherwise. someone told me that it ment i was afraid he was going to hurt me, emotionally, mentally, etc. and when i thought about it, i was. he was moving away soon, and i knew i was going to miss him. maybe theres something like that going on?
