A fantasy one. Recently I've been inspired to create a fantasy adventure type role play after playing a few video games which consisted of adventuring around and fighting monsters in dungeons. Said role play would basically be about groups of people of various ages running around the world in seek of fame and fortune through adventuring, monster slaying, and dungeon exploring. There wouldn't really be any high stakes, like the world might end or be taken over by some evil mad man, it would simply be light hearted adventuring.
I've thought about posting this in Barton town, but I doubted that it would get noticed. So I figured I'd post it.
So, is anyone interested? If so, ill go more in depth on how the role play would be run.

I am interested. But what sets it apart from your run of the mill medieval fantasy?

I agree with Becki; sounds good, but more info is needed. XD What would we be able to play? What's the overall plot? smile

Leid I agree with Becki; sounds good, but more info is needed. XD What would we be able to play? What's the overall plot? smile To explain everything in a nut shell, a king wants someone or some people to reach the top of a great tower to find a legendary staff. Five people would play as a custom character who have decided to take accept the kings quest. All five characters would be in a group together and would work together to reach the top of the tower. It would be basic role playing, unless someone actually wants me to put in some sort of battle system. I'd of course lead things, have events happen and describe what's going on and stuff. If interest is still shown ill be sure to expand on everything. Oh, and to give a bit more info about the types of characters people will be playing as, they can be anything from warriors to mages to priests.

Sounds kinda like Flowers in the Shadows, Zenny's RP. However, with a different take on the idea, it could be very interesting.
Give it a shot! smile

Oh, you're right. To keep this different from Zenny's fine role play ill have to come up with another take on this. Anyone have any suggestions. sweatdrop

(Sorry if I crushed your idea. crying So so sorry.)
Um, I think if you can make a solid world, make rules for magic and gameplay. What makes Mario Brothers different from Legend of Zelda? Both games are "go save the princess" but they are so different from each other. The worlds are different, you encounter different monsters, different 'spells' (Fire flower vs ice rod), different races (Italians, vs Elves).
So, think of some gimmicks, and run with it. Different races are interesting, work with that, maybe. Make a list of spells available. Really get a solid idea and make it your own!
What are some ideas you have so far to make it stand out? Then from there I could try to help by offering ideas!

Here's an idea. What if this role play took place in a sort of WindWaker/Water World type realm, where the ocean's are vast and only islands are scattered all about? There would be a few somewhat large land masses, like ones the size of Florida? We could all play as sailor/pirate type warriors and wizards and stuff.
That's all I've got so far, however I'm thinking of a way to incorporate a tower or dungeon into it.

I had a plot quite a while ago like that - where sky pirates were trying to get to the top of this incredibly high tower, and kill the King, so that they could steal his ship which rested at the top and was rather legendary (the plot was very vague though).
Perhaps something of that sort for your seafaring warriors? Everybody likes a perilous treasure hunt.

I was thinking that everyone wouldn't be sky pirates, more along the line of either normal pirates and sailors who use normal wooden ships. As for the plot, it could be something like that, like finding a magic ship, although I was thinking simply great treasure. Still either plot works with me, and I'd be happy to go in whatever direction everyone else wants to go in.

if you're doing a water-world thing; sunken city all the way. I really liked the concept of there being an island or floating temple with some ruins on it, which in truth is the peak of a sunken tower. a dungeon (or several) could be these underwater ruins; like a city under the ocean. along the lines of Bioshock or classic Atlantis.
contributing elements could be like in Wind Waker- the ancient civilization was flooded over and became a water world. More Atlantian would be that these guys had powerful, world-altering magics and were either punished by sinking or brought the doom upon themselves- and possibly the rest of the world. Deep into fantasy you can introduce another race that built or came to live in these ruins. Or, if you want to touch on scifi, you could make the sunken city drastically more advanced than the surface world.
I really enjoy the aesthetics of descending deep into the ocean's depth and finding a world there. Appropriately advanced safety glass/magical wards lets you stand in the middle of the ocean as life unimagined moves around you. A city- lost, forgotten or perhaps never discovered- loaded with treasures and power enough to make an ambitious adventurer a king- a god.
Even the architecture itself: imagine Pirates of the Caribbean descending into the temples of ancient Rome and Egypt and India, now shadows of their former selves, dripping water through the cracks- entirely flooded in some portions- cast in eerie shades of blue and green and white, moss and seaweed wrapping pillars, and through doorways and windows and shattered marble, the vibrant life of the ocean rushes by, close enough to touch. These halls, though exposed to time and neglect, still brim with the gold and ivory and lapis lazuli statues and artifacts of ages past. Each new room and treasure calling to mind the ancient legends and stories and religious fables of the land-that-was. Alternatively, finding a simple, abandoned temple on a remote island with a stairway leading down; damp and dark and narrow like the steps to the Underworld. Walking forever, lower and lower into the jaws of the ocean. And then the stairs change. No longer the marble and cobblestone and stained glass of the shrine above, but becoming something more sleek and alien. It could be technology and magic the likes of which have lost for a thousand years. It could be the sinuous, organic tunnels of a species... very different from our own. At parts, narrow enough that one has to lie flat and worm through tunnels- at other, short but wide- and other places cavernous, so vast and dark that torchlight cannot touch the other side. Seeing bones like those of monsters- sea dragons and kraken, merfolk and something like the giant squid. And then coming across temples and chambers with the exact architecture of your own people. With religious figures and stories from ages ago, but still told on the surface.
and the isolation. Five adventurers, stepping into a world like this; it'd be like a graveyard. Once a thriving city, larger and more powerful than any on the surface, now in desolate ruins, fraying at the edges and subjected to the harshness of the ocean. The tomb of a land, so foreign yet so familiar, unopened for generations, where not even thieves have come to pick the bones. Still in splendor, but drowning. Footsteps echo for miles. A single droplet of water heard from the far side of a cavern. Torches and magic the only cast light in all these years, seeming so frail and so weak against the empty black. The ocean pressing against the walls, squeezing patiently, seeking that one crack that will open the gates and finally be rid of these forgotten halls. Silent. Dark. Alone. But maybe shadows move. Maybe there are more footsteps than there should be. And after hours of walking and plundering and exploring, when the party sits together for sleep, the nightmares come- memories they couldn't possibly have- and the near tangible sensation of being watched. After days of this, its no longer clear if there is something else in the dark, or if the group's own troubled minds are falling into madness.
....Frak this! I'm making my own role-play. I'm giving myself goosebumps here.
It's probably more, er, atmospheric than you're looking for. From what I can tell, you're after a high-fantasy adventure game. storm a dungeon, fight monsters, grab treasure. My ideas are a little off the deep end where that's concerned. A little dramatic.

Well Sopheriel, you seem to have some good idea's. Start something up, maybe ill join.
As for you Leid, would you like to be my partner in this? Someone who I can bounce idea's off of and speak with about the role plays development?
Well, I suppose ill make something this weekend. I hope this goes well.

I don't think I have the patience or commitment at the moment. feel free to use any of that you like, or bounce ideas off of me. I enjoying planning role-plays, you know, debating and developing ideas more that actually playing them, or so it would seem.
