Okay, firstly, I'm QUITE aware there is a subforum for this (and I'll probably move it there myself later) but, for the sake of sparking some discussion here, I've chosen to place it in the main forum for ease of access and viewing for the opening.
ANYWAY, what do you think of dreams?
~Do you believe they can be prophetic? (not so much the coming of a savior or an apocalypse, so much as, the dream coming true in some form, if that's your fancy.)
~Are dreams just a series of pictures our brains muddle about our day? Are they simply extensions of what bother us in daily life?
~Does the way we dream say something about us or our livelihood?
~What is your take on lucid dreaming, then?
Personally, I think dreams are all of the above, honestly. I think, to a degree, dreams can come true, depending on the level of detail and things. I do think, though, that they can and will most likely always have some difference from what truly happens in reality. As such, I don't base a LOT of my thoughts on dreams, considering they don't usually hold anything for me, though if it does, it STICKS out to me. So, yes, they can sorta be prophetic, for me at least. (Ask, and I have personal examples.)
However, I also thinks dreams are generally muddles of daily life, like when we feel sick or had a bad day in class. There have been many times that I was sick and had the most wicked dreams. And some dreams are just too wild to mean much of anything. I do think that they can HINT at things and sometimes provide solutions that are not always obvious.
As to the other two questions I asked, well, I can't answer other than I think Lucid dreaming is just a fine line to walk between dreaming and waking.
Respond to me, the questions, come back with other questions of your own, or all/any of the above. I'm just opening the floor here.
Apologies for length. I tend to either be somewhat overly structured or far too spacey. razz

Really, I don't know. I don't dream all that often, so it's hard to say. I'm sure all of those points are possible - though the second one applies to me most of the time.
Well... I hope so, anyway. Or it means I'm going to, in the future, be on the run from the law and be captured after some little boy mistakes me for Batman.

Mm. I never have any prophetic dreams, and I never remember my dreams if I do. I have had dreams that have actually happened, but it wasn't like a symbolic dream that came true. Of course, with the ten dreams we have a night, and the six billion people that dream every night, there's bound to be one or two dreams that come true. I know I am able to lucid dream, because I can control the dream as it happens. But, as soon as I wake up, I will forget what I did. And, I think that they do say something about us. If you had a very bad livelihood or a guilty conscience, you would probably have bad dreams, right? So, a little of all..

Well, Kashu, I suppose what I was getting at was, did what you dreamed come true? Like, was it sorta word for word, step by step, of a dream that happened? Or were there just a few similarities between the dream and real life?
I mean, for a few things that line up, I'm pretty sure that, yeah some things would line up, but for a majority of a dream to line up would be pretty interesting.
And Nick....what on earth? ...?????

Dreams being prophetic? Completely, totally, and utterly true. I've never dreamed anything truly epic, but one summer I had dreams that showed me my locker number, locker combination, and part of my schedule two weeks before my actual schedule was mailed to my house.
And Nick, that is a pretty awesome dream. lol

Yeah, it was exciting. Except I woke up with partial sleep paralysis nd panicked that my hands were actually in handcuffs 'cause I couldn't move 'em.

Never had a prophetic dream I can remember off. I don't think they can't happen, they just don't happen to me.
I can remember my dreams occasionally, and otherwise easily forget them if I don't bother to think about it after I get up. The ones I usually remember are mostly movie like dreams and can be pretty planned out as to how things in the dream world go. They don't happen often but they can be pretty epic when they do. I'll often be third person, controlling a character (only once was it myself), or swapping between the two. So it's a mix of movie and game I suppose. Currently have two in the category of truly epic. Maybe three... Aside from those, I probably have random dreams more often, and more unmemorable ones than those since I don't wake up every day remembering a dream (daily life is likely to blame). The random dreams can have traits of the grander ones, one but usually aren't as well structured and make less sense.
Lucid dreaming. I can't do it. Ruins my dreaming if I try to get in the zone and then start wondering what I want to do. I agree that it is a fine line between being awake and asleep. When I go to sleep, I'm going to sleep. I'm quite fine with my mind having thrown together a good plot or such to follow along with. It's like watching a movie or playing a game in my sleep. I've had a dream I could probably turn into a movie haha.
Haven't had a bad dream in forever too. Maybe an annoying dream once in a long while but nothing other than that. Haven't had many memorable dreams either aside from last night.
Perhaps I should bother to write them down more. Another side note is that most of the time, people from real life don't show up. Example, I have only had one dream since I've started college with a person I know from there, in it.
