So did Spike really die at the end of the series?

I always thought he did......but I 've read interviews with the director Mr. Watanabe saying its undetermined.

yeah but an such a dark ending too Julia dies, Viscious gets offed and well Spike dies.....supposedly...lol....one of the coolest endings for any TV show ever.

in my opinion, he never died...you've all seen how many times hes 'died' but never really did, hes a survivor and hes sure to have survived right?

I think he died. The star disappearing at the end of the credits kind of cinched it for me. Plus he kept saying the whole show that he had to atone for somethings so I think he sort of had to die. After Julia and Vicious were gone there wasn't anything really holding him to the world any more.

plus all the doves flying up to the sky could be taken as he died as well....it's a very wierd ending ...I think he did die.....but he is always saying he is just living a dream...

Although how extremely sad it was, I always thought Spike died at the end of the series. I always thought it was meant for Vicous and Spike to end up killing each other in a final battle, which I believe happened. Just Spike had just that more determination to make it farther down the stairs and do his famous Finger Shot before he passed.

I completely agree with you. He's been so close to death on so many occasions, that it would be out of character for him to die there (as epic as it would be). sure he was surrounded by syndicate thugs, but he also worked for the section of the syndicate that staged the coupe, so the likely hood of having several friends among the crowd is fairly high.
