Setting:

In the Great Forest is a well hidden lake whose surface shines silver and clear. Giant, ancient trees surround the lake where fireflies dance at night, gold stars among the silver ones reflecting off the dark mirrored surface of the lake. The full moon rises between the trees to hover in the gap above the great lake, adding its silver glow to the already bright night. A waterfall feeds water to the lake, behind which lies a cave full of phosphorescent stones causing the waterfall to glow a brilliant green at night. In this forest, anything can happen.

It seems like it had been forever and a day that Stephanie had been without water, stumbling through the lands. Finally she spotted a forest.
Well...panting Where there are trees there must be water...
So she trudged on and weaved her way through the trees, pausing now and then to rest. Night had already well and fallen. It didn't help that she was night blind. Noises sprang up out of nowhere and frightened her. Clutching her tattered clothes together she kept moving forward.
Come on...There has to be water here somewhere...
Like a beacon, out of nowhere she heard running water. Could it be?
She was saved. She all but ran in it's direction, hitting some obstacles along the way and falling down many times.
Finally she stumbled into a clearing.

Oh my god... How... Beautiful...
She cried from pleasure and exhaustion. Her last thoughts before she passed out were...
This place is a miracle...

From her perch on a massive limb hanging above the lake, Kaaren watched the lone, exhausted figure emerge from the trees around the lake. Ruffling her feathers slightly, she dove off the branch to get a closer look. Gliding to the forest's edge, she landed a few feet away from the stranger. Inching closer with silent steps she eyed this intruder and saw she had nothing to fear from the limp form.
A closer look revealed that this stranger had traveled quite a distance and was severely dehydrated, so Kaaren glided back to the lake, filled a small canteen with water, and tried to revive the poor creature and force it to drink.

Feeling someone touching her, even in her exhausted, tired state, Stephanie jumped up and took a Fighters stance and fought to stay up right.
Who...who are you, stay back...She wobbled and almost fell back down.
I'm war..warning you!
Stephanie's hands started to glow faintly. She balled up her fists and aimed in the creatures direction. She smiled satisfied
Don't come any...
her hands stopped glowing and she fell back over, passed out

Kaaren took a startled step backwards, ruffling her feathers and extending her wings to appear larger. Parting her beak she prepared to fight back, only to find the strange creature had passed out again. She blinked twice, cocking her head in confusion. Here was a creature who appeared almost dead, came back to life, tried to kill her, then passed out again... Strange creature indeed. Cautiously, she approached again, thankful no water had spilled, and tried once more to urge the creature to drink. If she could get just one drop down its throat, much less a swallow, she was confident this stranger would soon be back on its feet. This water had a strong healing nature.
She hesitated a moment, shuddering at what this creature might do if it was willing to fight her in this state. If it was at full strength, there was no telling what it would do to her, but curiosity won out and she poured some water down the intruder's throat.

Stephanie was once again aware of someone touching her. Groggily she started to come back to wakefulness. She tried to breathe through her mouth only to choke on a liquid. Her eyes flew open. Coughing she said...
Are you...trying to kill me?
She got a better look at the creature...and it's massive wing span....and started to get frightened. Once again her hands started to glow but she was frozen.

Kaaren glimpsed fear in the creature's face, but also sensed danger so she quickly buffeted the stranger in the head with her wing before it could try to attack again, hoping to knock it out. Any damage the blow would cause would be healed by the water, but it would keep this strange, violent creature calm for a while longer.

Struck by the wing she passed out, but even though she was unconscious and not in control of her body, her mind was very much awake.
She tried to reach out to the creatures mind.

*What are you? Can you understand me? Mental sigh. Where am I? Why did you knock me out?!?*
Patiently she awaited an answer, not even sure the creature understood her.

Surprised at the strange creature's abilities, Kaaren cocked her head once more and replied,
'I'm the one who should be asking the questions. You come here, on the verge of death, so I attempted to help you. But instead of thanks, I get threats. You're lucky I'm around or you'd be dead, but you don't care. I try to heal strange trespasser, strange creature tries to kill me instead. You're lucky I didn't do worse than just knock you out.'
Anger at the insult of being threatened by someone she was trying to help, Kaaren ruffled her feathers and turned her back to the creature.

Still linked to the creatures mind she said...
*Please don't...*
Tears fall from her unconscious body and it also starts to rain around her

*Please, I'm sorry. I've been traveling for weeks. I'm sorry... I've just been... Well...*
Come on Stephanie, just say it
*I've been hunted... And When you've been out on your own it gets harder to trust people*
Stephanie pauses waiting for a response, hoping.
*Please don't leave me.*

My this was a confusing creature. 'Who said anything about me leaving? Just hurt is all.' Kaaren extended a wing to shield the stranger from the unexpected rain. She felt sorry for the poor thing. 'I know full well what it is like to be hunted, but you'll find peace here. Just rest, and please don't try to hurt me again, or I WILL have to kill you' As much as she felt sorry for this creature, she couldn't risk her own safety. It had been years since she had to go through what this stranger apparently was going through now, but she would never forget the lessons it taught her.

*I'm sorry I hurt you.. I'll try to be... better*
She tried to stop crying and as she does the rain stops until it's creating a fine mist. Stephanie takes the silence to access the damage to her body, Severely dehydrated... a minor bump on the head... some scratches. Not too bad. She'd have to walk to see If there is any damage to her limbs. Walking...
*Well I don't figure how long I'll be unconscious. I'm uh.. a bit worn out* Mentally laughs. The rain has stopped completely and the air around her was surprisingly warm and comfortable.

Kaaren took pity on the poor creature. She glanced back through the mist at the lake and the fireflies still dancing over its surface. Turning back to the stranger she asked, 'Do you trust me?'

Stephanie gulped audibly. With her life?
*Well.. You haven't killed me yet... and You've had plenty chances...*
Her body broke out in goose bumps, despite the warm air
*No offense but I really have no choice but to trust you do i?*
