Sounds like fun. I wouldn't put my horse through that though.

I'm a pretty intermediate rider and i get to go riding cross country for the first time in the spring, probably, since i've ridden almost all of the school horses at my barn...that's right people, laugh at the poor one that dosen't own a horse...i feel so left out all the time TT-TT

Mine too was a cross country ride, my first whole cross country course ever as a part of a mini event. My horse was a seasoned eventer (though we just stuck to 2'9-3'3 high devision because she is getting old) and she just loves it. Coming out of the start pen she just took off and absolutely ate every jump! She was really fast, too fast for our devision but if I tried to slow her down she got upset and lost rhythm, so i just gave her her head and she stayed at a very steady gallop. Rhythm and balance is better that the "correct" speed and inconsistancy. No hesitation on any of the obsitcles, and the gallop back to the start/finish was amazing, I was so tired, she must have been too but she just dug in and kept her perfect gallop. At the end of the run she was puffing hard, but was still prancing excitedly.
This was the 5th jump, out of 12 obsitcles and it was after this I finally relaxed and realized she was going to jump everything and do her job and I was safe up there and all I had to do was hold on and steer haha. This jump is 2'9, and look how much she over jumped it by! She knew it was competition day!

Don't worry, I used to be exactly the same way...rode school horses for five years before I got my first horse. I think its really good to ride a lot of school horses, they teach you a lot! [especially their sneaky pony ways, lol]

My favourite ride was when my friend taught me and my horse how to jump...by the end of it, we were jumping 90cm courses! [I know, not much, but I'm a dressage rider that likes to have all four feet planted on the ground, lol]. Unfortunatly, the horse got Navicular Disease, and is now just a plodder for my beginner sister, but at least we got to have a go at jumping before he retired from hard work!
