Ok, now I'm sure most of you have already heard about FFXIV. It's another MMO, seeminly it will be much like FFXI.

Now I'm not really sure how huge XI was but I can't be the only one here who has noticed that, for starters when XI came out the races seemed kinda like they just spit up a bunch of similar but different races from the other games, a little variety is nice, but I guess I'm just not a big fan of the ones they came up with.

Most importantly though is that IA is, hands down, structured for MMO game play. It already has many great and familiar races, it already has Clans, and FFTA and A2 are both structured around different competing clans in a final fantasy world, not to mention adding an MMO to the IA series would boost the number of people who endeavor to search out the history of the series.(purchasing more merchandise)

One other area I think Square Enix may have mad a couple bad decisions on is FFTA and A2's plot lines. I thought the first one had a bad plot, that is until I played the second one, then it turned out the first wasn't so bad after all. I don't mean to offend if anybody else does like the plot, we all know it's an interesting concept most player's have probably pondered on, but seriously, Final Fantasy Tactics was the deepest plotline I have EVER experienced and when they made sequels they decided to go the exact opposite direction? I guess that get's a wider range of player's to play, but all the FFT fans were most likely quite dissapointed by it and a number of them didn't even want to purchase A2 when they commented on the plot that they were again "Keeping it light."

So discuss, Is Square Enix making good choices here? Are the plots of the Advance games really so bad? Why the heck wouldn't they use Ivalice for an MMO?

Having played all three games I'd have to say that FFTA is my favorite. FFT was, for me, way too complicated and political. Then again I only got halfway and lost interest. FFTA was good, but some links were a bit weak, agreeably. I guess the upside is that it's easier to understand and cater to more people.
FFTA2 was crap. I didn't even try to get halfway. D:

I kinda thought FFTA was just a dream version of Ivalice near XII's time. Just that Mewt was incharge.

But they're not making it like FFT? I'd looooove that. =w= going around as ninja or an archer just delivering the grace of blade or arrow.

I'll be the one bold enough to say that I despise the blasphemes that are FF TA and A2. They really had nothing to do with the original FF T except for stealing the name of Ivalice and a few other concepts. Personally, I felt they, in a big way, ruined what FFT was all about. Square needs to go back to making epic classics like FF IV, FF T, FF VII, FF VII, and FF X. Hopefully FF XIII won't disappoint. I'm really looking forward to getting it when it comes out.

Square is stuck with making bad choices about Ivalice Alliance. The creator of the world itself isn't on their staff anymore, so future games are basically guaranteed to be cash-ins on what should be his intellectual property. >_>

I felt FFTA was really far from the spirit of Ivalice. I know some people like it, but for those of us who were with the universe from the beginning, it was a complete 180. Tactics is supposed to be complicated, theatrical and political, and FFTA was a children's tale. FFTA2 at least had the subplot involving the crime syndicate and a concrete connection with previous Ivalice games that didn't confuse things and then retcon it all away by calling it a dream world.

Even with the mainstream FF games, Square's current choice is to make loads of derivative stuff. The only difference is that the creator of FFVII is still around to ruin the canon himself. So I guess you either leave S-E staff a hero, or stay long enough to become the George Lucas of Final Fantasy, Tetsuya Nomura.

As for XIV, I was excited when I heard about Akihiko Yoshida doing the art for it, but if it's not actually Ivalice, I'm not really interested.

I'm getting a little excited for this game now.
Still no real idea how it will play, but it looks promising.
Kinda like they're going more the route of Vagrant Story in terms of battle system, but in an Old Valendian setting with Ashe as queen.

Fortress sounds pretty promising then 3nodding

@Gemsteel - I completely agree with all of that, the only reason I liked TA and A2 were due to the similar party creation and battle style.

I didn't like FFTA very much, so much so that I didn't even finish the game much less buy the sequel. It was lacking in so much that it infuriated me. I loved how grand yet secret everything was in FFT, the plot had so many levels to it that it resembled a factual scenario. I miss games being that thorough. While FFXII had that, they lacked grandure in my opinion. FF has always been about saving the world, to me, and FFXII was really just about saving one war torn country. I'd bet that most anyone in Rozarria weren't even effected by it. Square seems to be making really bad judgements on what it should do with it's most popular game series. Even FFXIII has disappointed me, though in more indirect forgivable ways than TA and TA2. Hopefully this "fotress" will be better.

Did anyone else watch that 'tech demo' on the wiki page? The gameplay and level design really feel like an MMO to me. Those last couple battles even looked like PvP, but I'm sure it's far too early for that.

Looked a bit like that, but the battle story board further up reminded me of Vagrant Story.

If it's anything like Vagrant Story I will be over-joyed. It's been a while since I've found a game that's challenged and intrigued me so perfectly.

Although hopefully it won't have weapon affinities. Man those are annoying. XD
