Rules and Guidelines

Rules folks. Read it, learn it, live it.

1. Art Theft- Any plagiarized (i.e. directly traced, copied) work or art that is not created by you will not be accepted. If you see a piece posted and think someone has stolen, or violated the copyright in some way, do not attack them. This means making insults, screaming at them, or being generally rude and uncivil. Please message a mod the post of the suspected art theft and a link to the original. We will deal with it accordingly. Attacking the person will result in you being warned for player harrassment.

2. Regarding adult content - PG-13. only. This means that erotica and adult images are not permitted. However, we do allow some leeway for tasteful nudity and life drawings. This applies to adult stories and photos as well. If you want to show that stuff, show it on the off-site forums or censor it. Not everyone in the guild is of an adult age. Plus, this violates Gaia's TOS.

3. Selling art for real money- Art can only be sold on Gaia for Gaia Gold and items. Selling art for real cash on Gaia is not permitted. You may link in your thread to a web page that has your cash commission options but you may not advertise it or directly take commissions for cash on Gaia.

4. Hotlinking- Not really a rule but more as a note to keep in mind. Art sites like Deviantart, SheezyArt, VCL, FurAffinity, and others generally do not allow direct linking, so you will have to post it as an URL rather than as an image. Hotlinking images to embed them into a post often use a lot of bandwidth from the site they are linked from and drains their resources. Some sites will display errors when linking. Hotlinking and embedding images from privately owned sites, unless you own the site, is prohibited as they do not have unlimited bandwidth and it is considered stealing. Just something to keep in mind as you may run risk of breaking the rules of those sites. At the end of this post is a list of sites you can host images on and the code for embedding images.

5. Commenting/Flaming- For the people posting art, be aware that everyone is entitled to their honest opinion about what you're showing them. They may not have completely positive or encouraging things to say. So be prepared for varying opinions. For the people posting comments, please be polite and constructive in your critiques. In other words DO NOT FLAME. Doing so will result in a warning.

6. Scamming- The same rules as Gaia's apply here. If you suspect someone is scamming you do not attack them and message a mod instead. We deal with it. Same as the art theft rule if you attack the person you will be warned for player harrassment.

7. Respect that people are not online 24/7. And may take a day or more to reply. Also, artists do art at their own pace and may have school or jobs that take up their time so they may only do art on their free time. If they have a list of people waiting it could be awhile before they get to you. So please, show some patience and respect for their time, since they are taking the time to draw for you. Art, can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to even a few months depending on the person. So don't harass them if they don't get your art right away and be understanding if something comes up that prevents them from drawing. Artists if you feel you cannot complete a piece refund the gold/item. I suggest and it seems to work for me better, on making a trade with a person but do not accept it until you have completed the work. That way, if you can't complete it you can just easily cancel the trade.
note from Rainey: Please be courteous when posting replies in public. See my post below for more

If you have a problem, please PM a mod about it and try not to solve it yourself.

Notice: These rules are subject to change at anytime or new ones may be added if needed..

How to Link and Embed Images

The following sites can be used to link and post images on the forums.

http://photobucket.com/
http://www.imageshack.us/
http://www.tinypic.com/
http://www.theimagehosting.com/

There are many more image hosting sites out there and most of them are free. Hotlinking with Deviantart, SheezyArt, VCL, and FurAffinity to embed images may violate their rules so use at your own risk.

The code for embedding images is

Artist and Commissioner Etiquette

You would be surprised how far patience and overall kindness can get you. I do not understand people (commissioners) that are impatient and forever demanding. Art takes time and not everyone is inspired by everyone's character. Take all the foxes out there. Do you really think that an artist that draws 100 foxes every other day will be inspired by yours? No.

Here are just a few things that I want to stress when making requests or commissioning art. And some things that apply to the artist as well.

Commissioner Etiquette

1. Be Nice - It's simple. Be pleasant, act courteous. Say please and thank you and above all else, be understanding.
"Life crisis? No problem, take your time. My commission can wait. Thank you for letting me know"

2. No Deadline - I am an active commissioner. I have found that pieces without a deadline tend to be much better than pieces with a deadline. For one, the artist is under stress to finish your piece and two, they are worrying about whether the details are right, if you're going to like it, etc. IF you are going to set a deadline, set a realistic deadline. First, ask the artist how long on average it would take them and then add 2 weeks to that, to give leeway for life emergencies.

3. Start your trade - starting your trade will let the artist know you are serious about getting your art. The nice thing is that once you start it, you don't have to accept it until the art is done. So however long it takes, your trade will be hanging out in the bank.

4. Don't be nit-picky - to counteract this, you better give the detail that you should have given at the start of this. The more detail and the more sure the artist is about what they are drawing, the less room for mistakes. People who nit pick will often find themselves on the wrong end of the stick with the artist. If in doubt, always follow rule #1. be kind, courteous and pleasant. Ask them to "please" change this to that. and "Oh, I think you may have forgotten this." Telling the artist they're an idiot or even implying it..is not a good thing.

Note: I have one more thing to add to this.
When all is said and done, the artist should want to have you commission them again. You should be getting praised for being patient and nice and understanding. If you do not receive this from the artist, change your behavior and how you acted.

Artist Etiquette

1. Be Clear - As to what you are offering, will and will not do. Nothing is more frustrating than PMing back and forth with an artist that isn't clear from the beginning.

2. Be nice - same as applies for the commissioner. Being nice can go a long way. Most commissioners are new at this, so you may have to help them along a bit.
