First saw a potentially good discussion on the topic in the SN. Pro-halfbreed OP chickened out, butthurt, upon the bringing in of Biology as applied to Mythology from a devil's advocate in favor of purebloods (myself).

So, I thought, why not bring it here, where I know that some actual discussion can happen on the subject. That and I want to figure out other reasons why Katarina dislikes dhampirs so much. x3 (She seriously does; it's pureblood pride.)

Pros and Cons of Halfbreeds and Purebloods. That's our topic.

Is it unfair to say a halfbreed will not gain the weaknesses of its sires, but all the strengths?
Is a halfbreed any stronger than either pureblood parent?
Is a pureblood any stronger than a halfbreed?
Why do you think that?

Feel free to answer these questions and ask questions of your own, as well as offer theories and ideas. I really want this topic to go somewhere; I felt cheated in the thread from SN because nobody used logic to argue with me. ;-;

By the way, can drop link to said thread if desire is expressed.

Interesting topic of discussion.

I’ve always viewed half-breeds as being weaker than a pure blood. I wish I could recall where I’d seen/read it, but somewhere I picked up that a pure blood can withstand sunlight in short intervals. They are also stronger and have more developed abilities than a half-breed. The reason being, a pure blood is essentially a demon who bares a human form, where a half breed is an animated corpse kept alive only because of the demon blood that courses through its veins.

Make of that what you will.

I had hoped you'd think so.

The only place I can think of where I know that it's stated that a pureblood vampire can withstand sunlight is Bram Stoker's Dracula. But other than that, I have no idea.

Though, it was brought up that the most famous halfbreeds, dhampirs, have that whole Slayer thing open to them as a profession, due to their abilities to sense purebloods and take more than a mortal could during a fight.

I guess that in the case of human halfbreeds, the offspring will always be stronger than their human parent. But that's a big fat Obvious Sticker; the other parent is supernatural.

Someone said to me that a way of looking at the two is this:
Halfbreed:
Pro - Versatile
Con - Weaker overall

Pureblood:
Pro - Stronger overall
Con - Specific

Well, I'd like to make my input on dhampir. There is one source of literature, called Vampire Hunter D by Hideyuki Kikuchi, where the protagonist is a dhampir....Dracula's son, "D". In the various books that haven translated, "D" has fought on par with vampires and even creatures more powerful than any of us lords of darkness. Yet, he is not without a vampirismbased weakness. He shares our trait of sunlight intolerance, but he doesn't burst into flames. When "D" has been in the sunlight for too long, he develops symptoms similar to an extremely, deadly case of heatstroke. He is also very much mortal yet long lived and eternally youthful, coming close to death many times, only to be saved by an outside force.

Now that I think about it, Dracula really got around for being an undead guy. Alucard of Castlevania is described to be his Dhampir son, and so is D.

Now, I've not read Vampire Hunter D, but I REALLY like Kikuchi's take on Dhampir. They are supposed to have weaknesses from both parents, just as they are said to have the strengths of both parents. Biology says so, and biology can most certainly apply to mythology. I shared his view on them without even realizing it.
So, great minds think alike, I suppose, considering that all the Dhampir I've ever known, up until my expressed interest in vampire societies outside those I've known, have been the usual "all the powers and none of the weaknesses" of their supernatural parents.

Pros-Halfbreeds
By having the vampires pure breeding them
many powers can inherit from their parents.
Cons-Halfbreeds
Well, they can have a vampire father and a
human mother (traveling a lot) and because there
this race to be born is weakened.

on blade there was that whole "all there strenghts, but none of their weakneses". i personally say its equal on all points of the discussion, but if i think about it, purebloods should be able to withstand sunlight comepletely while half-bloods need time. in blade it was half-bloods having a tolerancy to light and purebloods bursting into ash ._. there has to be something remotely close to the actual thing that says what really happens.
