I suppose old folk recordings are about as indie as it gets. Anyone into that stuff? Like the early days of folk music collecting?

Oh God. Eighties music just gets stuck in your head! I have had this one song stuck for about a week, but it's not indie. It was really popular, or so my mom tells me. Down Under- Men at Work.

It was VERY popular but that is still a great band...The lead singer is independent now. Mostly acoustic guitar solo stuff. Still very good.
I practically live in the 80's tbqh I love the 80's usually postpunk like Joy Divison, The Smiths, The Cure, Siouxsie and The Banshees, Bauhuas, Nick Cave.
...anything in the vain of Deathrock, Postpunk, gothrock and Batcave, also It's a guilty pleasure but Hair/glam metal.
And Alternative.... And Synthpop...
It all makes me happy XD

Bowie <3 I love him too!
I'm kind of ashamed... I mostly listen to music made in the last 5 years. But I do like some older stuff, mostly experimental or super cheesy synthpop (I LOVE A-Ha redface ).

A-Ha is awesome just because of how ridiculously 80's they are David Bowie, and I'm being very serious, is my idol...the man is an artistic genius.

whateverfloats I suppose old folk recordings are about as indie as it gets. Anyone into that stuff? Like the early days of folk music collecting? Um... I like a lot of folk like stuff, both old and new, though I'm not sure exactly what material you are referring to. There are so many different kinds of folk from so many different places and eras. I really like The Pogues, whom play traditional Irish folk music. I love The Decemberists, though they play folk music from a sluagh of different countries and eras that they never lived in. I'm assuming that you were referring more to early 1900's recorded American folk music, in which case I haven't listened to much of that. I like a lot of 1960's American Folk music like that of Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and The Byrds, with such songs as... "Sweet Sir Galahad", "Joe Hill", "Subterranean Homesick Blues", "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Drug Store Truck Drivin' Man". Some newer artists that I listen to that seem to have a lot of folk influence are Woods, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Feathers, to name a few...

Music as we know it today owes a large debt to the roots of Glam Rock.

A-Ha kicks a**. Hunting High and Low was a ridiculously good album. The Velvet Underground is awesome. Hope Sandoval's music reminds me a lot of The Velvet Underground, particularly the stuff she did in Mazzy Star. The Ramones are bad a** too. They really shaped American Punk music for generations to come and all the while looking rugged as hell, hahaha...
