Genre: Action, Adventure Manga Ginga Nagareboshi Gin Author: Yoshihiro Takahashi Publisher: Japan Shūeisha Demographic: Shōnen Magazine: Weekly Shōnen Jump Original run: 1983 – 1987 Volumes: 18 (first edition) TV anime Director: Tomoharu Katsumata Studio: Tōei Animation Network: Japan TV Asahi, Animax Original run: April 7, 1986 – September 22, 1986 Episodes: 21
General Info Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin(Silver Fang: Shooting Star Gin") is an adventure manga by Yoshihiro Takahashi. It was published by Shueisha in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1983 to 1987, and collected in 18 bound volumes. It received the 1987 Shogakukan Manga Award for best shōnen series.
The series tells the story of an Akita Inu pup called Gin (Japanese for "silver") who leaves his master, a young boy named Daisuke, to join a pack of wild dogs. The pack is gathering strong dogs from all over Japan to fight a deranged bear named Akakabuto and his minions. The story begins from the point of view of the humans, but swings to the dogs with episode seven of the anime. It is in that episode that the audience hears the dogs communicating with each other through speech, though it continues to be barks and whines to human ears. Takahashi was reportedly inspired by a news article about hunting dogs that had been abandoned by their masters and had begun living as wild animals.
Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin was adapted as a 21-episode anime television series by Toei Animation. In western countries the anime was released as a set of four VHS tapes, and censored for violent images. This led to the removal of several plot-critical scenes, including all footage from the episodes preceding the series finale as well as the deaths of certain characters. Due to limitations of sound-editing at the time this resulted in the background music of certain scenes to be lost.
Atypically, the anime has become extremely popular in the Nordic countries(particularly Finland, Denmark and Sweden). The anime has been dubbed in Korean, Finnish, Hungarian, Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish. The Finnish dub, Hopeanuoli, was created by Golden Voice OY and became wildly popular. In 2003 the uncensored and non-dubbed version of the cartoon was released in Finland and Sweden as a 5 DVD box set. A corresponding DVD set was released in Denmark and Norway on October 3, 2006.

Same here! I didn't like GNG at first but pushed myself through the first few episodes. By the time they got to the other dogs it was EPIC!!! I loved Ben in GDW and only made me love him more in GNG, arf! I almost don't know what I liked more, GNG or GDW they both have their moments.

and dance like no one's watching... I found the first 7 or so episodes to be quite boring but I watched them because I didn't want to miss anything xD When I watched GDW I didn't really care for Ben much. But when I watched GNG I started to like him more because he was so awesome! I'm sad that the Kai brother Akatora had to die, he was one of my favorites in GNG. I found out that Riki was pretty cool too, especially because of the influence he had on everyone.

I was sad about the Kai brothers too, arf. As far as Ben goes I mostly thought he was funny GDW because he constantly mixed up Ken and Kage (was that what Ken called him???) and not realize it until it was pointed out ex, "When did my son get these ridiculous tiger stripes?" Then in GNG I was totally like If you die I'm gunna hate you!!! Even though he wasn't going to... I'm dumb... Rikir was awesome! I liked how he never lost his composure no matter what was going on. I'm a bit curious though, what did everyone think of Sniper and Hyena? They were okay but I think they could have been used more or atleast appeared more. What do you guys think?

Agreed! I just think that Sniper didn't get a whole lot of screen time for a villian. When he appeared he was awesome, but he wasn't even in it a whole lot. Do you remember if Hyena went to the final part of the battle with Akakabuto? I can't, arf. lol

I do believe he was there. I think he also cried when Riki died. Ben really turned him around and gave him a change of heart ^_^
