Quote: The sins of man cannot be pushed aside any longer. Far too long has the human race been rotting away. The disease has spread to the point where the only way to cleanse it--is through annihilation. So dark the desires of man that he shall bring about his own demise in the end. You have been warned, and you have taken no steps of your own. So now, it is my turn. The world will be painted red and the heavens will cry crimson tears of cleansing. The end is nigh, and only the end will bring rebirth...
Sincerely, The Red Death
Many notes similar to this have been sent to leaders around the world, creating quite the shock. No one knows who this mysterious individual is who calls their self "The Red Death" or TRD for short. All they know is that they pose a serious threat to the well being of the world population as their intention is made clear. Massive genocide of the human population. Our leaders tell us not to fear, but we can clearly see fear lingering in their own lies...
October 27, 2009
It's been two weeks since the note has been published in the newspapers. Mysterious disappearances and deaths have been occurring around the world of various prominent figures. The leaders are trying to keep the population calm, but it is obvious that this isn't a threat anymore. Worse yet, some sort of sickness is beginning to effect small countries killing easily in groups of hundreds or so. The identity of The Red Death still remains a mystery...
December 25, 2009 The death tolls are rising. Martial law has been put into effect in many of our world's countries. Riots breaking out all over the world as the sickness continues to escalate. No one seems to be safe! On this Christmas day no joy will be spread. Only tears and grief. We advise you stay inside and don't venture out for a while. The disease seems to be spread through the air and through the blood.

Quote: Did I not warn you that the sins of man would not go unpunished for very long? Already the effects of your own sinful ways are coming back around to take your very lives. Justice will be served. Today, I declare war upon the remaining people who still hold strong in their filthy ways. You will find that the very things that you thought would save you, will only come to be your demise. May the Lord have mercy on your tainted souls!
Death only awaits you, The Red Death
So it begins the world on the verge of dying has gone to war, but with what or who? Sadly we fight more amongst each other. Who is this Red Death? Why do they wish such horrid things upon us?! No more! No more!! The end is nigh! Darkness shall be the last any of us sees in this cruel world...The Red Death will spare none in the end...

War is a terrible thing. It destroys so much to gain so little. Yet still war rages on. In the year 2009 a great war raged started by an entity simply known as the Red Death, and a pandemic like none other was released. The goal: to wipe out humanity and all the sins it caused in the world. Life as we knew it ceased to be the same, ceased to really be alive.
However, the world cannot stand still forever and must eventually move on. So it did, the mass destruction slowly working to repair itself like it has had to do so many times before. Life is slowly returning to the world, but it isn't the life we know. Don't get me wrong, animals and such lived through this time on a barbaric way, mutated and transformed, but still alive. However, humans were thought to be wiped out by either the war or the plague, but that is not true. Humanity still survives.
It's been two years since the War of the Red Death ended and it is currently the year 2029. The world has grown into a wild place with only remnants of what we used to call civilization. Glorious cities of old lay in ruins and technology is broken or dead, thus rudimentary at best (though guns still exist). The wildlife has spread into the deserted cities making them look like old sci-fi replicas of what they once were. Humans are no longer the top of the food chain anymore, the reign of humans has come to an end.
The disease that spread through the world, called the Red Plague, either killed the person it infected, maimed them, or changed them completely into blood thirsty mutants; only a very small portion of humans were not affected at all, and were labeled the Godsends. Through the long years of the war the Godsends were revered and hunted down to try and find a cure. As a result they often stayed hidden away so they wouldn't be experimented upon, few survived anyways because of how they were treated with animosity.
The disease itself seemed to only infect one if there was direct liquid contact of some sort. Whether it be by a bite from the infected, drop of blood or saliva into any orifice or open wound, etc. Once the infection took hold it took only hours for the full transformation to occur, and it was very painful for the individual. Once they were infected there was no chance for a cure, and the infected was better off to be killed right there before the corpse had a chance to reanimate. A direct hit to either the head/brain or through the heart was the only way to kill the infected. The world had become a dark place indeed with little promise of a bright future.
However, humanity still remained alive through this in scattered areas, but the people live in fear and dread each day. As the days draw on, and the disease seems to slowly evolve, the human population is slowly being killed off. So enters you, a wearisome survivor of these dark times. The survivors will need to band together and try to fight for their lives and fight for humanity. Perhaps they will be able to rebuild life and start over, learning from their horrific mistakes, and find a cure for the terrible Red Plague. But, first they need to find each other and then they need to find safety from the cruelties of the new dark world.
So starts the first chapter in the fight for human survival. Be careful, as the Red Death still lingers about, waiting for humanity's final days....may God have mercy on our damned souls...

Look at those pitiful fools. The war may be over, but they have not won! Their demise is imminent, and complete darkness has yet to come. They have fought their armies against one another, but they still must stand up to the darkness before them...Let this be a lesson to the future that will be born. Sin will not go unpunished and darkness will find all in the end. Repentance must be met for the many blackened souls...
I am the redeemer of those dark souls. I bear my burden only to see the redeeming of man kind. There must be a time of great darkness before there can be a peaceful light. Some may see me as Death, but I see myself as the Savior of these stray souls. Forget me not in the future, but remember me as the mark of man kinds rebirth! I am called the Red Death but death only brings a new start!
Stretching out a skeleton-like hand before them, the skies began to rumble as a storm rolled in. Below in the decaying city streets animals roamed freely, and undead creatures moved in small packs through the streets hunting. Now and then the cries of unfortunate individuals screamed out and broke the silence, but the Red Death only grinned and moved on. Their army of unfortunates continued to grow and spread its horror through the lands that some still called home...~~ The skies were dark overhead as storm clouds rolled in. Rain was already falling as animals in the open scattered to seek shelter, but not Lita. Rain wasn't going to kill her. She'd survived this long after all. Watching as a large deer jumped past, she ran out into the pouring rain as she made her way down the streets toward the old weapon shop. She needed to restock and get some new guns before she moved on. She'd been in this small rinky dink city somewhere along the way for about a month now. No sign of anyone else, but she was used to that disappointment. She hadn't always been alone. Sadly, she'd lost her most recent companion a few weeks back when they were ambushed by a group of infected individuals. Though initially when the Red Plague had struck the reanimated dead were the typical dimwitted mutants, natural selection began to take hold fast. Though for the most part the infected had basic instincts, they were fast, orginized into small packs, and seemed to have enough intelligence to convey communication somehow to one another. That was a different story though, and things were always changing and adapting, just as nature had always intended for survival of the fittest. Back to her lost companion, though, he'd sacrificed himself during the ambush to save Lita, who had stupidly gotten herself cornered in the store. Another black mark to add to her book of many, and it pained her to do so. How many more people would she have to see die before her eyes? This entire thing with the Red Death was simply crazy! The Godsends weren't much help either, all they did was hide away or form small cult groups to worship them and do their bidding. Sometimes she agreeded with some of the preechings of the Red Death, but in general she just wanted things to be peaceful again. Hadn't enough people died? She frowned at this thought as she saw the sign for the gun store appear. It was old and rusted, falling apart really. The words: Howards Gunstore were well faded but still there as if a ghost had just swept over them. Cities, it seemed, were more like jungles now, and the once magnificent buildings of old were crumbling and fading away. It was fascinating, but horrific at the same time. Making sure nothing was following her, she pushed through the front door and quickly shut it. Better safe than sorry. She was surprised she hadn't seen that many infected around this area, but that didn't mean much. Shaking off some of the rain she quickly made her way around to find what she needed. Nowhere was really safe these days it seemed, and she wasn't going to take a chance. In and out. That was the plan. ((small cameo by the Red Death at the beginning followed by Lita Storm's entrance. Lita is making her way toward a Gunstore for restocking, in a rundown town she's been in for a month or so. We find that she recently lost a friend and is now wandering alone through the streets. A storm has recently rolled in as well to set the scene))

Dred worked hard to try and keep himself dry. Not that he cared if he was wet, but he certainly did not want to add another burden to his already unpleasant life. Including it hurt a lot when he sneezed; a cold would not only be a bother but painful too. Including Fox just hated being wet; he did sleep in Dred’s bag. And that bag was skilled in sucking up as much water as it could. Making Fox’s small, traveling home damp and uncomfortable for a long time. He paused, watching the animals wisely rush off into hiding. Some slow, others with those of the same kind. Likely mates or their children, depending on size and color. He smiled, somewhat catching eye of a few foxes scurrying across to the nearest sheltered area.
“Wonder if you did the same too, Fox?” Dred asked, his voice slow, silent and very scratchy. He had to clear his voice as soon as he was done speaking; using this to try and get rid of the feeling that was left in his throat of speaking. It didn’t hurt much these days, it somewhat cheered Dred up more. He wasn’t use to staying quiet for so long, and wanted to be able to speak again without having to feel pain or even and odd feeling in his throat. Even though he knew that his voice would likely forever stay quiet and scratchy. And he was in no rush too, not like he had a lot of people to chat with.
He began to feel droplets plop upon his head, starting off slowly before it began to come down. It wasn’t too heavy, but Dred was certain that if he stayed out here too long, he would eventually get soaked. So he sped up his walking, looking for the best shelter he could find. He made sure to keep aware of his surroundings, not too much; he was already infected with the Red Plague and another bite likely wouldn’t do much. But that didn’t mean the mindless mutants couldn’t kill him. And, personally, even though he was horribly disfigured, unable to speak and likely crippled by the disease for the rest of what he expected to be a short life. He wanted to live. At least to see humanity either succeed and rise against their greatest challenge. Or fail miserably and end up wiping themselves out.
Sadly, Dred was expecting the later. He shook his head, trying to remove the negative thoughts as he heard a light bang come from near by. As though a door closed. He ran forwards, turning a corner and spotting a gun store. He narrowed his eyes, wondering if the door just banged against itself. Or if someone was there. He walked to the door, just staring at it as he tried to figure out if he wanted to go inside or not. If it was just the door banging from wind or being loose, than he could go inside and stay there until the rain stopped. On the other hand, if a person or mutant had gone in there; there was a number of scenarios that could occur if he wandered in.
One was that if it was a human, he or she wouldn’t care what was wrong with Dred and would allow him to stay. That was unlikely, or at least to Dred; he had enough experiences with people assaulting him JUST because he was infected with the Red Plague. Than there was the daily ‘human kicks out or attacks’ him because he’s sick with the Red Plague. And this was a gun store; not a good thing either. Finally, there was the scenario of ‘mutant’, in where he’d have to either be quick and escape, or prepare himself now to fight. He sighed, quickly taking off his bag and pulling out his axe. Dried blood covered the metal end, used commonly against animals and mutants.
“Alright… let’s go…” he told himself mentally, slowly walking inside and praying for the least, worst scenario.

Broken. Broken. Wet. Junk. Damn, it seemed as if someone might have cleaned most of the place out long ago. No matter, she could do with what she could find. A few extra shells here and there, and parts to repair her own weapons. The rain began to come down harder as water dripped through cracks in the ceiling and walls, but Lita made sure to avoid any hazards. Too busy lost in her own world she hadn't realized taht someone else had entered into the gunshop. Lightening struck and illuminated the place, but still she remained in her own world, or was simply ignoring whomever was there. Picking up what looked like a semi-automatic M16 rifle, she checked it for ammo and turned around on instinct as another bolt of lightening illuminated the area. Her gun remained fixed, however, upon a sole figure standing drenched in the doorway with an axe and a bookbag. Lita didn't make a move and she didn't speak, she just stood there poised to shoot, though the gun was actually unloaded currently. When neither of them made movement to attack she decided to take a side step. Friend or foe, she wasn't sure, but something about this man was off. When the light hit him something about his features just wasn't quite right. Finally she began to speak "are you human?" she asked, simple but straight to the point.

Dred, upon first entering the store and not noticing anything, assumed it was just the wind. And for a second eased himself, feeling safer in what he thought was an empty store. However, his ears finally began to pick up on shifting and noises. And straight away, Dred returned back to being on guard. Fox peered his head out of Dred's bag, viewing the store as finally, upon the lightening flashing, the place lit up to allow Dred to see a girl looking through some guns and ammo. Dred stayed quiet, noticing that she already held the gun in hand and, not wanting to startle her, tried to find the best way to approach her and not have the gun fired.
He lowered his axe down, careful to move slowly as he thought of the best way to get her attention and not cause her to jump. He considered calling for her, but he remembered how bad his voice sound. And felt that by calling, she'd likely assume he wasn't human and kill him. Trying to touch her shoulder didn't seem all that bright either, not if he wanted a one way ticket to being beaten and shot.
He stopped upon feeling another bolt of lightening hit. Noticing her spin around and look to Dred. He instinctively raised his axe in defense, but lowered it upon realizing that may not have seemed like the best idea. He eyed her, trying to see if she looked scared, calm, angry. It was hard to tell, not a good thing. He was hoping he could figure out whether she'd be a shoot first or shoot later type. Upon hearing her question, he somewhat grimaced. Realizing he'd have to answer.
"Yes..." he spoke, pushing to make his voice as loud as he could and as less scratchy as he could.

"Yes..." the man had said with some effort. His voice was scratchy as if he needed to clear his throat, but he seemed to have at least some mind to him. Still, she kept the gun pointed at him as another flash of lightening struck "what's that in your backpack?" she nodded toward Fox. Before he could answer, though, there was a loud crash near the back somewhere. Lowering the gun, she grabbed some ammo for it nearby and loaded it quickly without second thought. Creeping toward the back where the rustling was coming from she crouched low and prepared herself. Turning the corner a bit her suspicions were confirmed as she saw a few infected feasting on a poor dead man. It looked semi fresh. Well, this was not a good thing. She'd need to get in and out quickly. Seemed that the previous person who had looted the place had met their demise. Backing up slowly she returned to where Dred stood and motioned for him to keep very still and quiet. Another flash of lightening came followed by a crack of thunder. The infected lifted their heads at the sound of thunder and looked around. Unfortunately they'd spotted or smelled Anna and Dred. Giving out a horrific screech they ran forward, "********" she muttered as she opened fire and turned sprinting toward her things. Grabbing her bag quickly she kicked a few shelves in the way of the infected and pushed toward the exit "Get out of here" she said firmly and made her way out. Grabbing a small item from her belongings she took a lighter and light it. It made a sizzling noise as she hurled it inside and pulled Dred along. Soon after they'd gotten a little ways away there was a large explosion from the gun store. Cries came from the burning infected as in the distance they were responded to "...damnit so much for keeping quiet. No matter. Keep moving if you want to stay alive" with that she sprinted down the street keeping her eyes open for any other threats that might lay around at the moment. The rain continued to fall as she headed toward her current base.

Dred further forced himself to ease up when she noticed she did not plan to lower her gun. His bag lightly shook, Fox growing irritable from being cooped up in the bag. And this somewhat startled the girl. He looked to his bag a moment, prepared to explain that he had a Fox in there... named Fox. However, before he could answer, both picked up on some sort of crashing sound. Dred tensed a moment, unhappy with the thought that they may not have been the only ones there. And from the sounds of it, whoever was here was more of a whatever, really. Dred rearmed himself, prepared to fight on the in case that whatever or whoever was in the back would come and attack.
His mind was so busy readying himself, that he didn't notice her head into the back. It wasn't until the infected began to attack her that Dred noticed she had gone around the corner. He tensed, preparing to jump in. But from the gun shots heard, Dred sensed that likely she was easily killing them. Or, he hoped so. He waited, axe ready but not too ready so, if she did come around the corner and at him, he wouldn't hurt her. Instead, he spotted her run around. Telling him to leave, which Dred easily agreed to. Quickly being pulled along to help him further escape, the two ran ahead. Of course, easily picking up on the explosion. He grimaced, picking up on the screeches of other infected.
"Damn it..." he cursed, his throat hurting as he winced. Seemed like this wasn't his day. Upon listening to the girl tell him to follow, he nodded in return. His throat somewhat stinging from his short cuss as he decided not to speak further more until they were safe. He didn't want it to hurt all day.

She caught a faint curse from the man as well, but nothing more as he followed after her. She moved down the street, aiming her gun now and then but not firing. Skidding around a corner there was a house or apartment up to the left which she quickly ducked toward. Opening the door she waited for Dred to get inside before she followed, quickly slamming the steel enforced door shut and locking it. Outside there was the sound of pounding but she didn't wait to see if they'd get in or not. Moving along the hallway she closed a few gates as well until they reached a stairwell "head up and take a left at the third flight of stairs which will be the top" once they'd followed those directions he would find himself in an apartment of sorts, decked out with full protections. Locking the door she leaned against it heavily breathing and soaking wet. The room was very dim currently but she moved toward the windows shutting and locking them one by one. At the last an infected shoved itself against the opening trying to pull in but she simply fired a few rounds at it as it fell away dead. Shutting the window she locked it as well and turned on a few low hanging lights, "have a seat and get comfortable" she said going to teh fridge and grabbing some drinks.

Dred had been exhausted by the time they made it to her apartment. He heaved in mouthfuls of air, flopping into the nearest and most comfortable chair as he eased in. He felt another, violent shuffle against his bag, his body moving forwards and allowing Fox to get out. He hissed at Dred a moment, nearly considering to claw at him. However, he left it there, and curling up on his lap. Eased up as well. Dred considered taking off his hood, however he remembered the state he would likely be left in forever. And just about thought of not taking his hood off.
However, he decided it would be best. Both for his health and for her to know. If he kept on insisting to not take his hood off, she'd likely get untrustworthy of him. And besides, he was already still somewhat weak by health standards. While he could walk, fight, run, and do all the basic skills needed for survival. A cold or flu could easily rattle his body. And that was the last thing he needed. He sighed heavily, brushing a hand through his thick but dead colored hair. Thankful that, at least, his hair was left intact. Not that he was any happier about being scarred, but he preferred to be scarred with a full, thick head of hair than scarred AND balding.
"So..." he winced a moment, his throat still not choosing to clear up. "What's your name?" he asked anyways, feeling it was polite to ask. She did save him, and he had a feeling that he wasn't going to be leaving any time soon. Well, he hoped. He did NOT want to get kicked out, to fend for himself in the rain AND against the infected. Or, the ones that still lingered.

Lita hadn't been paying attention really to Dred once she gave him the drink. She was busy checking things and making sure everything was in place. Fiddling with her guns a moment she barely registered his question, "what's your name?" he'd asked. She turned to answer and in the dim light was able to capture a glimpse of his appearance. She paused a moment, "Lita Storm" she finally responded but didn't comment on his appearance. For now she'd trust him. She had little else to do since it was only her and him, and he hadn't tried to kill her yet. If he did she would defend herself, simple as that. Getting up once again she shifted around the pantries and found a small slice of meat that she gave to Fox "and your name?"

Dred didn't look to her face when she turned around. He didn't know how she would react to his features, but he certainly didn't want to see disgust or pity. He had enough of that, from the very few people he met upon his trip. Though, he wasn't making any assumptions. He softly stroke the fox, glad to be sitting down at last as he thought of her name. Just considered if he knew anyone with that name. He knew a girl on his home street whose first name was Lita, but her last name was F something... either way, this Lita was certainly not the one he knew. He heard her ask his name. Taking a sip of his drink, hoping it could ease his throat, he finally gave a reply.
"Dred Leeks." he replied. He winced again, trying to clear his throat as best as he could. It didn't help, if nothing made it a little more painful. He stopped, taking another sip as he watched her leave a moment. Fox seemed to have either figured out why, or had a feeling that whatever she was getting was for him. His ears perked up, and he sat up. Waiting for Lita to return with what he hoped was his own drink or snack.

The rain continued to fall outside, but for now they were safe in this place. She'd found it when she'd came to the city and her and her previous companion had gotten everythign set up. It would hold for a while but like everything else they'd have to eventually move out. Sliding the food before Fox she took a seat and opened her drink, downing half of it easily "I hope this rain doesn't hold up long...I need to get more supplies. It's about time that I moved on and found another place anyways. The infected are growing in this area and I sense that as time goes on the infected are also evolving" she frowned a bit "have you seen any other survivors?" hearing a rustling outside she stood and took out her guns again. She was rather forward and straight to the point. Screw the chit-chat was her view on conversation. Small chat only got one killed. Going to the window she cracked it a moment and peered out, but all she saw was rain and darkness. Still she remained on guard as she returned "if you're hungry there is food in the pantries and fridge, which we were able to get working again. The bedroom is off to the side, there are two mattresses so pick one. Bathroom is over that way, and anything else just look around. Nothing is terribly hard to find. I may be coming in and out as time goes on. As I said I'm preparing for a move so I need to stock up. There is a small radio in the bedroom but we haven't been able to get that working properly yet..." she paused as she realized she kept saying we. Shaking her head a moment she went to go clean herself up a bit.

Dred listened closely to what Lita had to say. He nodded his head lightly at occasions, understanding her situation well, as he considered her question. Well, he had seen some survivors, most usually trying to get away from him. But he had seen some. To if they were alive now, though, was a bigger question. He nodded his head to her question, choosing to stay quiet for both the reasons of hearing something outside. As well as his throat still aching. He tensed a moment, Fox somewhat unaware as he began to eat his meal.
"Thank you..." he replied, noticing she was being quite polite, to allow him to stay. He winced again, taking a long and hard chug of his drink. When he was complete, he quickly pulled out his bottle of scotch. Taking a quick but big enough sip before putting it away. He shuddered at the taste; in truth the bottle held a far more powerful alcoholic beverage. But he felt a little more at ease.
With that, he placed Fox onto the couch to finish his meal. Heading to one of the beds with his thick blanket he kept to keep him warm. He flopped onto the nearest one, laying there with the blanket over his body. He didn't sleep right away, he was still quite awake and ready on the in case trouble would arise. But he was all about ready to instantly fall a sleep, when Lita was done with cleaning herself up.
