We've all got that list in our heads; that list of movies we need to see. I for one am really shitty about actually getting around to either watching stuff on the list or remembering what's on the list, which you know is hilarious given that pretty much everything on the list I have at work. Anywho, post your list here, and for the love of God can we avoid the "OMG YOU HAVEN'T SEEN..." I get so much of that at work, even though I know probably ten times more about film than anyone else at the store. Yes, Kristie that does mean that my store is full of ******** film n00bs.

Although I will say to just do not bother with Across the Universe. With the first cords of "Strawberry Fields Forever" there is a close up of a bowl of strawberries. That is when I lost it - which is pretty ******** amazing considering I didn't loose it earlier in the film after a character named Prudence locks herself in a closet and is only convinced out when the other characters sing "Dear Prudence". Seriously: ********. That. Uber-Contrived. s**t.
I'm not against the concept, and I'm not against the musical alterations; I am however against claiming to want to recapture the feel and music of a generation all the while working your damndest to counter the song's original meanings and sentiments. The entire film was self-indulgent forced-nostalgia for a era that never ******** was, at least not the one the film creates. I like Julie Taymor. And because it is Julie Taymor, the film is very pretty, has interesting and creative visuals, and is well made production wise; I just found the the plot and characters to be excruciatingly ill planned and executed.

You are probably correct. I may agree, I may not because I probably do not grasp The Beatles as well as you do. It's one of those gotta see things though. I mean really do you think I honestly want to watch Hostel?

FO SRS.
It's a volunteer activity; you don't have to watch a movie if you don't want to.

You guys are hilarious. The point of the exercise isn't just to watch movies that I think will be cool and will be Mark Movies. I want to understand trends in film as well as film craft. Hostel for instance- along with the Saw franchise- is at the center of a massive and divisive split in the horror genre, and I can't really say very much significant on the topic without examining the other side of the fence. I do really ridiculous things in order to develop or prove a point, like both watching and reading Twilight so that I could assault it from a position of authority. It's what I do. One of my other schemes in the works is to compare and contrast The Hills with Curb Your Enthusiasm.

I understand that. I've watched plenty of films I "had to see" that I didn't want to for the sake of checking it off my then list.
On the other hand, again; ******** that. Especially when it comes to the horror genre, and even more so the horror genre in the 2000s. Bodily horror (and splatter horror) can be very, very interesting and well done. But not in super recent memory.
And if this is a big serious exercise, maybe you want to get a few books on film and/or genre to go along with it. Can't really assess much on craft, or trends, by just watching the films alone withing understanding a wider context. Also, books on film are fun! 8B

Natalia Romanova Trois Couleurs (Bleu, Blanc, Rouge) When you get to that, can you let me know how they are? Been on my super-short movie list for a bit but I never really got the chance.

That is pretty much the extent of my searching for the past two years. xd I worked in a library for three years, and one of my more utterly pointless, but fun jobs was setting out movies that I recommended or thought looked interesting, since we had a display shelf on the main floor. We had all three, but I kept putting it off even after I discovered they were there ): Now I wish I'd watched while I had them readily available.

Yeah you should have, you crazy! And OMG setting out suggestions would be awesome! I always like to see the suggestions employees get to do at Borders and stuff and then I'd think what I'd do. Because I have no life.

One of my other schemes in the works is to compare and contrast The Hills with Curb Your Enthusiasm. I totally understand where you're coming from with this, because I am the same way. It's kind of why I still watch shows like Heroes and most anime. And it's great to be informed and all... I just got to the point where I was all like "why the hell am I watching something I don't like when I could just as easily be watching something I do?"
Anyway, I suppose I should toss up a list here just so I can be one of the cool kids too.
Television The Wire Life on Mars Starship Operators (I will finish this one day!)
Movies Leon (I've seen/loved The Professional now I want to see the original/uncut version.) Shoot 'em Up 3:10 to Yuma Primer American Psycho In Bruges Snakes on a Plane The Hurt Locker
Games Arkham Asylum Bioshock 2 Crysis Crysis Warhead Dead Space Dragon Age: Origins Killing Floor Far Cry 2 F.E.A.R. (well, technically finish this out, but I have to install it anyway) F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin Mass Effect Mass Effect 2 Resident Evil 5 S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
edit: Removed Mad Men edit2: Added 'Games' and a movie.
