User ImageSkype padded silently through the snow, her paws disappearing in the white blanket past her toes.

She was lonely.

It wasn't an emotion she felt very often; usually, she was alone but never lonely and was happy that way. Today...tonight, whatever it could be considered when it was almost dawn, felt a bit different.

However, she had no intention of going to her 'family' (she mentally scoffed at the word) for assistance in the matter. No, things like this went away on their own, she had learned. All she needed to do was wait it out.

Soon enough, she climbed a small hill that looked over the forest, but she looked up at the crystal-clear night sky, looking for answers in the great abyss. What was out there? Why was she alive? Why was there death?

With a small sigh, Skype shook her head and lay down, the snow freezing her tender underhair, but she didn't mind. She loved the cold.

Aquila loved the crunching sound that came from stepping on untouched snow, he couldn't help but wonder where everyone else, anyone else, was. He thought, idly, about his family. He hadn't seen any of them in ages. A little while later, Aquila realised that he had, unintentionally, been following a trail of footsteps. Though the snow had distorted the shapes of the tracks, he could tell from the scent that he had unknowingly followed a vixen through the forest.

He supposed he wouldn't mind meating the fox, regardless of who she was. Reaching the base of a small hill, Aquila noticed the fox he was looking for laying on top, with her back to him. He boldly took a few steps up the hill, the snow still crunching under his paws. He was sure the vixen already knew he was there, though as he approached the thought crossed his mind that the vixen was sleeping. He stopped half-way up the hill, not wanting to wake her. He examined her white, blue and black fur, staring for a few minutes at the design on her side.

Realising that watching the vixen was typically considered 'strange,' Aquila decided to move to her side and prod her a little. His excuse, Aquila decided, was that he thought she was going to freeze.

Skype heard the other fox coming but didn't move, just listening to its footsteps. They were heavy, so it was most likely a male, but she still didn't move. She closed her eyes until they were slits, examining the white paws carefully.

Then he prodded her.

Skype jumped to a standing position and pushed herself a few feet away, claws coming out of their own volition as she glowered at the male. Who did this rose-boy think he was?

"Who are you?" Skype asked warily, still tensed to spring if necessary, "What do you want?" Being alone for so long had taught Skype selfreliance, but now she also believed that no-one was to be trusted, because they could always attack you the minute you let your guard down.

((Wow, could that have /been/ any lamer? XD))

Aquila leaped back himself, as the vixen before him suddently sprang back. He was, frankly, impressed by the speed at which she was able to jump into a defensive position. He regained his composer and took a single step forward.

Anger was more than evident in her eyes, but Aquila couldn't help the amused look that crossed his face. "Just calm down," was all he said at first. The chances of this vixen reacting well to that, from what Aquila could already tell, seemed slim.

"I'm Aquila, and I had wanted to make sure you wouldn't freeze, sleeping on top of a snow-covered hill while it's snowing." His excuse came out as smoothly as he had hoped. "Too much snow is bad for the body," he added, "so... You're welcome."

Skype didn't even bother to respond to the 'calm down' bit; as if. Snorting derisively, her claws making little lines in the snow, she eyed him warily. Like hell she'd be thanking him for nearly giving her heart attack and possibly about to attack her.

As he took a step forward, she took a step back, her green eyes, connecting with his gray ones. "I am perfectly capable of understanding my own body, thank you. I sleep out here all the time." 'Here', of course, didn't mean right where she stood; or, if it did, that would soon change.

"Your concern is unnecessary." Skype repeated firmly, so this silly white-and-blue pup would get it through his apparently thick skull. "Go on, carry about your business." A monkey could've understood that dismissal, at least.

He watched her, perplexed by her need to be constantly on her guard. "Alright, I get it," Aquila replied with a chuckle. "You can take care of yourself, and you want me to leave you alone." Being the stubborn fox that he was, however, Aquila would never give in to such a demand.

"My business in wandering around this particular forest was to meet a new fox and strike up a conversation, maybe make a new friend," he informed her. "Though you clearly don't want to participate, you seem to be the only one around for miles. I must, as you said, 'carry about my business.'" He decidedly ignored the fact that it meant she wanted him to leave.

"So," he began again, taking a seat in the snow, "what would your name be? If you recall, I have already introduced myself as Aquila." He knew he was being a nuisance, and wondered how long he could keep it up.

Skype growled lowly, her ears flattening to her head, annoyed by this little child with blue roses. Stupid males and their stupid stupidness. Stupid.

"Are you slow?" Skype asked, her eyes narrowing. She wondered how long it would take her to tackle the male and silence him, for his voice seemed to be able to spew out nothing but stubborn annoyances. Why wouldn't he leave her alone?

"Yes, I want you to leave me alone," She continued, not understanding why he wouldn't just leave if he knew that that's what she wanted him to do. Stupid. "I will not tell you my name if that will encourage you to leave me be faster,"

Secretly, in the back corner of her mind, she was a bit impressed and curious; most foxes either ran or backed away slowly from her when she was like this, but this male seemed bound and determined to stick around.

Stupid.

"I have no friends, and I do not plan on changing this," She added as an afterthought, chuffing. "I'm sure there are more foxes who are more willing to endure a conversation and friendship with you, kit, and not miles away either. Perhaps you should try to find them."

Aquila mocked a look of shock and hurt. "I'm not slow," he denied with a slight shake of his head. "I'm simply persistant." An amused smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. She intrigued him; most other hot-tempered foxes would have attacked him by now.

There were quite a few things about the vixen that Aquila couldn't grasp. The first being that she was still wary about him. She must, by now, know that he was harmless. Aquila also didn't know how to respond about her being without friends for all of her life.

"You should probably know that I might not leave you alone regardless of whether or not I know your name," Aquila informed her. This vixen is much too interesting to leave alone. "So you might as well tell me." He didn't really think it would work, but it was worth a try.

"You know," the fox continued, "I'm sure if you had a friend or two you'd be less tense all the time. And believe it or not, I haven't found many foxes that could withstand my ramblings." He realised with a chuckle that it probably wouldn't surprise the vixen.
