Glossary of Commonly-Used Social Sites

Facebook - social networking site
Pros: free, simple & sleek, highly organized with live updates
Cons: no customized profile or music player, limited photo album capacity, application notifications may drive you nuts - beware of what you app you add.
MySpace - social networking site
Pros: free, customizable profile, unlimited photo capacity
Cons: way too many idiots use the site, nobody cares about you, tries to be too much like Facebook, highly cluttered interface
Twitter - social networking/update site
Pros: free, very simple and easy to use, customizable backgrounds and colors
Cons: everyone and their grandma will ask you how to use it
YouTube - most popular video-based website in the world
Pros: free, ability to post an unlimited amount of videos (as far as I know), easy to use, ability to customize Channel (profile in YouTube terms) colors and background, ability to mark videos as either public or private, and have control over comments and ratings by other users
Cons: stupid idiots use this site, stupid comments are always a possibility, nobody cares unless it's new music or really colorful and flashy, be aware that anyone is able to steal your videos using a variety of different programs - don't put anything up that you wouldn't want anyone to see or want stolen from you (credit or watermark your videos accordingly).
Flickr - photography/social site by Yahoo!
Pros: free (limited however, see Cons below) highly organizable
Cons: it is very easy to fall unnoticed and very rare for anyone to comment anything you do, limited MB photo capacity for free accounts.
Formspring - social ask-me-questions site, much like a never-ending MySpace survey, similar to Twitter but instead of updating your life, people ask you questions and you answer them and they appear on your profile
Pros: free, new and interesting, if no one asks you questions you can ask the site to ask you a question, really good for unnoticed ******** like myself, ability to customize the background.
Cons: people can ask you questions anonymously without accounts (you can select to block people without accounts from questioning you but you may not get many questions that way), so it is very likely you may get a shitty question, remark or comment now and then.
DeviantART - social art site
Pros: free (limited, see Cons), unlimited file capacity (as far as I know), a place to show off your work, many kind people use it (thought internet assholes are always possibilities) easy to use interface.
Cons: very limited capabilities to free accounts, don't expect to go far on this site unless you have friends to make your work more popular, very bad site for those with low-self esteem - almost everyone is better than you. Period.
Last.fm - social music site
Pros: free, very easy to use, sleek and stylish interface (red or black), a very great way to find new music to enjoy, ability to sync to your iTunes or media players to it and develop play counts of certain artists, "Scrobbling" (live updates to your music library, whether when listening to the last.fm radio, iTunes or iPod when you listen to music away from your computer) meet new people who enjoy the music you listen to, a free download of the Last.fm radio player, which will play songs by artists or from certain genres related to whatever you type in and also give you biographies of whoever you happen to be listening to at the moment. Ability to love songs, hate songs, blog, create playlists and join groups. Overall, an AMAZING site.
Cons: Usually you can only listen to the full song if it happens to play on the radio, there are a lot of previews as the site encourages buying music from Amazon, iTunes, ect. If you listen to a free song too much it will block you from listening to it for a while, and very rarely there may be a problem with the radio player, but other than that I've never had any real trouble on last.FM. smile
Have a site that I haven't listed or forgot about? Send me it with a review and I'll put it up. smile
