Thread Rules!

OOC-Rules

  • Only those who own a witch/wizard may post here... for now. ^^
  • Alair's house is twenty minutes away from Hawick! Meaning you'll have to HIKE to his house. whee
  • All info found in Alair's Journal is OOC Information!
...That is, unless you can get your hands on it. >D
  • OOC chatter is okay -- just, please keep it in (( ))'s. 3nodding
  • Please, keep the drama down. o.o I've witnessed too many dramatic RP's that went from bad to worst and have pissed off some shopkeepers. ><; All in all, Maru + Drama = BAD EXPERIENCE. Please don't increase it, 'kay? ^^

IC-Rules

  • Before you can even BEGIN RPing here... You must walk the twenty minutes from Hawick, through the forest, and knock on the door! Drop-ins and unexpected visitors are always welcomed. heart (as long as they fit into OOC-Rule #1)
  • The only areas open and availible for public viewing are the main "sitting" room, the Solar (corner room with big windows and lots of sunlight -- gets warm in the afternoon), The Kitchen, "that one empty room," and Alair's Room.
  • Chances are, Iilivenahr won't be around when you drop by. ^^; SO! No need to bring out the Wyvern-slaying equipment... He does speak common tongue, though.
  • Since Maru's a three-tailed kitsune, she's willing to help out witches and wizards with their spells. Her life is hidden safely away and out of harm's way, so don't be afraid about accidently 'ridding' her for a few. ^^ She refuses to help with exorcism spells, as they might destory her nature. >>
  • You break the tacky furniture, you buy it.
  • Alair's journal is hidden. If you discover his hiding spot, then you'll be able to learn a few things from it -- that is, until Alair returns and quickly grabs his journal from you. ^^

Descriptions of the Area

Alair's House - Outside

Secluded in the forest, the pale grey-white cottage appears desolate compared to the sprawling gardens surrounding it. The roof is made of thatched, dried reeds, bright yellow in color to prove how "new" they are. Beneath it, it isn't difficult to suspect wooden shingles, as there haven't been any complaints of rain dripping through. The windows of the cottage on the front are pretty large for what one would suspect, and upon the west side, it is easy to see windows large enough for someone to hop through. Only one chimney stack can be seen, giving one a fair idea of where the kitchens are.

The gardens surrounding this cottage are lush and bright, complete with many different species of flowers. From the dark violet to the tall tiger lily, those who are allergic are better of avoiding this house at all costs. In the spring and summer, bees can be seen happily moving from flower to flower. If one were to stalk the bees, they would discover the single, "man"-made hive behind the house.

The door leading inside the house is made of solid oak, complete with iron hindges and a brass doorhandle. The door knocker is simple in design -- a hoop attatched to a brass circle with designs etched around the rim. The designs vary from flowers to... foxes? If one had time to study the design, one could start to see runes in the leaves of the flowers...

Alair's House - The Main Room

The inside of the house is cool and inviting from the heat outside. The fire in the fireplace is usually lit, as it is shared with the kitchen, even though half of it is blocked off due to the need for an enclosed space to bake things.

The room itself has wooden flooring, occasionally hidden by the rugs laid out beneath the furniture. The furniture itself can easily be considered an eyesore -- whereas the comfortable, dark-hued chairs are pleasing to the eye, the yellow couch is NOT. The couch may be comfortable to sit in, but only if the person sitting in it can stand the tackiness that it is. Thankfully, a blanket that is a mix of blues in color has been thrown over it, yet it cannot hide all of the tackiness. From the width of the doorways and windows, it appears that there isn't a way to get rid of it.

The door outside is in the south, while the door to the west leads to where the scent of food drifts forth. The door to the east looks to be tightly shut, but an explosion of green can be seen when it is opened. To the north, a hallway can be seen.

Alair's House - The Solar

To the east of the main room is the Solar. A door fashioned from Rowan planks seals this room off from the rest of the room, but for a good reason. To pass into this room is like to pass into the hot and humid jungles -- the heat in this room is amazing! A faint steam also drifts about, vainly attempting to hide the many boxes of herbs growing here. Big windows can be seen in the wall, as well as on the roof -- apparently, there is a skylight.

This room appears to be relatively new, as only a few herbs can be seen growing.

The Kitchen

White tile graces the floor here, offsetting the hazel shelves and cabinets. Oddly, the only modern thing here is the sink -- the 'oven' is merely the fireplace. A metal box can be seen tucked away in the corner, shaped like a treasure chest. If one dares to touch it, it is cold -- and to open it means to use a lot of strength... That is, unless you can find the switch on it to enable it to spring open by itself. Inside there lies several frozen food products, all under a thin layer of ice.

The window here is home to a small box with mint. Next to it is a jar of rosewater, most likely used to hide the faint scent of burnt food. Inside the cabinets, there is the typical array of food and utensils.

The Hallway

It stretches from west to east, with Marushii's room at the far west and Alair's at the far east. Adorning the walls are highly polished shields serving as mirrors, even though they DO disorient the image. Alongside the shields are also a small collection of swords, daggers, and even a bow complete with a matching quiver... Without arrows.

Rooms in the Hallway - from West to East

Marushii's Room

[[All you can see is a door... that's locked. Picking the lock, or using a spell to open the lock don't work. Strange.]]

The Bathroom

...It's straight ahead when you enter the hall area from the main room. Oodly, it is modern -- from the sink, to the toilet, to the bath-shower combination.

That One Empty Room

A door made from pressed Alder wood is here, complete with hindges and a lock on the outside made from iron. The door is bolted shut, and is unable to be opened when it is unlocked. Odd. Like Marushii's room, using a spell to open the lock doesn't work, neither does picking the lock work either.

Despite the light chill upon the air, the bright sun in the clear sky looked to promise a hot day later on. It was still morning, and the wizard known as Alair was up. He was arrayed in his usual attire -- a white shirt with rolled up sleeves, and dark pants with work boots underneath.

He had a small spade with him as well -- a dull, steel spade with a worn wooden handle. In his pockets, he also had a small length of the type of reed known as a "Scottish Broom." Instead of heading to the plants in search of any that needed replacing, he instead went to where a small cluster of apple trees stood and knelt, carefully picking up the few scattered feathers that birds have left. With these in hand, he walked to a clear space in the garden and drew forth the length of reed. This was used to sweep the area clean both physically and metaphycially before he set down the feathers. "I need to at least try this..." He murmered to himself, taking a deep breath before pulling out a wand fashioned from elm and cedar.

The wand was leveled at the feathers. "Levirsa!" He commanded, willing the feathers to rise. He flicked his wand upward, giving direction for the spell to go. The feathers rose about a couple of inches off the ground before stopping, as if encountering an invisible barrier.

Now exhaused, Alair let himself sit down as he wiped sweat from his brow. "Gah! That was... interesting..." He stared at the feathers as realization of what he did just hit him. He shook his head as he stood and gathered the feathers, placing them in his shirt pocket before heading towards the nearest patch of green.

In this way, he worked for the next hour, pulling weeds and getting rid of dead plants. At noon, the chill in the air was gone, and Alair was sitting on the front steps to the cottage, back against the door on break.

[edit]

In this fashion the boy worked until the sun began to set. Before he entered the house he paused, casting a proud, pleased grin over the day's work before heading in.

((Crappy ending, I know, but shhh! xd ))
