Amri found herself standing outside the apartment building. As she looked up at the windows she idly wondered which one Steven lived in; 'Can I help you?' came a voice to her left. She turned, and saw a woman with clippers in her hand. 'I'm visiting someone here. A boy called Steven.' Amri said. 'Could you tell me which apartment he lives in please?' The woman walked over; 'I certainly can. I'll walk you to it actually. I'm the landlady, and I have something to fetch inside anyways.' Amri nodded, thankful that she hadnt been reduced to knocking on every door to find Steven! She was soon stood outside his door and the landlady had gone again. Amri smoothed down her dress ( it was her best one, purple silk with a black laced bodice), and adjusted her cloak before knocking on the door.
Footstep could be heard on the other side of the door just before it opened, a young woman around 20 or so with blackish-blue hair (and very clear brown roots), a soft pale complexion, and blue-gray eyes grinned softly, pushing her thick black rimmed glasses up on her nose, "Can I help you?"
Amri nodded; 'I'm Amri. I was hoping to see Steven if he is here please? He invited me around when I last saw him.' she smiled politey, guessing that this must be Steven's Guardian.
Kira smiled softly, "Ah, yes. I remember him telling me. Come on in and don't mind the mess. It's been a bit hectic around here lately," She said, grinning as she stepped over a pile of papers. "Watch your step...."
She lifted the hem of her cloak and dress, stepping over as Kira did. 'Thank you,' she said, looking around curiously as she stepped inside.
"My fiance and I have been working on a novel the last few months. It's been rather...scattered about here...so we haven't had much time for cleaning and organizing," Kira said, blushing slightly. "It's mostly papers and notebooks anyway. Steven, there's someone here to see you. It's a giiiiirrrrrllllllll!" Kira cooed, stretching out the long part purposefully.
Steven could be heard groaning in embarrassment from his study as the door cracked open, "I bet it's just Trysta, Mom. I'll be out in a second," He called, sighing softly. Steven would only call Kira Mom at home, and usually only when he knew someone other than Trollax wasn't in earshot. But since he figured it was just Trysta, he didn't really care if she heard...
"But it's not Trysta, dear. It's that girl you told me about a few days ago. Amri...
"Amri!" Steven repeated, a crash sounding as glass broke.
'A novel huh?' she inquired. She wasnt just being polite; it did indeed sound interesting to her. 'I dont mind,' she giggled a little. 'I'm not royalty or anything,' she said, blushing furiously as Steven's Guardian called out, and then she heard something breaking? What was that about? She looked at a pile of papers idly whilst she waited for Steven.
"Steven, sweetie, are you ok?" Kira called, frowning as she moved back towards the study before glancing back at Amri, smiling. "Yeah, a novel. We've been working on it for a little under a year now, but we've got too many ideas and not enough organization. Steven, hun?"
"Fire...fire not good," Steven said as Kira opened her door. He was standing over a notebook, tryin to smother a small pitch of flames, but the red goop that was covering the notebook seemed to be preventing the fire from being put out and spreading it at the same time. A shattered potion bottle covered the floor around the notebook, the pieces of glass seeming to have some sort of markings on them. "Fire...no, no, no... Everlasting Runic Fire Potion was not a good idea..."
Amri nodded again, feeling more nervous now. What was taking him so long? Maybe he hadnt really wanted to invite her around and just did it to be polite. She fidgeted on the spot, looking around her again and waited.
Kira pushed opened the door, yelping when she saw the fire, "Damnit, Steven!" She exclaimed, rushing over and grabbing one of his shirts, rushing over and grabbing the notebook. "Potion coated. I told you not to try and make those potions until you got better at your OWN studies."
"But...but they're runic powered. I thought I could handle it! I was doing fine until I dropped it!" Steven exclaimed as Kira dashed out of the room and he spotted Amri. Blushing, Steven giggled, rubbing the back of his neck. "Hey, Amri... Sorry about that."
She gave a little wave, walking over and stood at the threshold of the room. 'Oh dear,' she said, laughing. 'What were you trying to make?' she walked into the room proper and surveyed the debris.
Steven smiled, "The book's over here. Hopefully, the fire didn't get to the inside of the notebook since it had all my notes on the reactions." He said, picking up an old looking text off of the table.
"Mister Trollax..."
"Just call him Dad! She's not going to care!"
Steven blushed deeper at Kira's shout before chuckling, "Dad picked it up for me a few days ago at the used bookstore," He said, flipping it open, grinning at the runic script on the pages. "It seems to be a potions text, actually, but what I found interesting is there's actually a section on potions that are powered purely by the runic symbols magically engraved on the vials."
Amri giggled; she didnt care actually. She thought it was charming and sweet that he and his Guardian were that close. She went over to Steven, leaning in and reading over his shoulder. 'Interesting. May I borrow it at some point?' she smiled, looking at him. It was then she realised she was leaning in real close to him. She blushed herself and moved back a little. 'Once you've finished setting fire to stuff using it of course,' she teased.
Steven laughed, blushing in embarrassment again before nodding, "Of course. I can even add translations if you want. Most of the book is in runes....though some of the blessings are in Gaelic, I think."
'I would appreciate that Steven,' she said, saying his voice with affection. 'It would help me. Runes arent my thing.' she looked around for somewhere to sit...well that wasnt on his lap! She grinned at that thought.
Steven grinned softly, "Let's go out to the living room. The only chair in here is at my desk," He said, grinning and offering Amri his hand. "MiLady," He said, grinning, bowing slightly, and winking at her.
Her heart fluttered wildly at his gesture; despite it being slightly in jest so it seemed. She lightly placed her hand on his, and dipped a little curtsey; 'Sir,' she said, smiling. She let him lead her to the living room.
Steven smiled, ushering her to the couch, settling himself down and petting the place next to him before chuckling, "Mom told you why there was such a mess, right? I've been trying to organize it, but they put the mess out faster than I can clean it up."
She waited for him to sit, and when he motioned her to sit directly beside him she did so, sitting as close as she dared; 'Steven I'm here to see you,' she said. 'I dont care what the house looks like.' she looked at her hands, fiddling with the edge of her cloak.
Blushing ever so softly, Steven rubbed the back of his neck again before smiling nervously, "I really appreciate you dropping in. I always forget to go and see people, especially when I get caught up in things. But anyways...was there something special you wanted to talk about, or is was it just more of a spur of the moment drop by and see a friend and chat thing?" He asked, cocking his head to the side slightly, causing his bangs to flop down over his eyes...that prompting him to blow upwards to try and move them, with no success.
She reached over and brushed his stubborn bangs back for him, moving her hand away and smiling faintly. 'Both..I wanted to see you. I wanted to talk to you about something as well..' she fiddled nervously with her own hair now.
Steven grinned softly, "Thanks," He said as she tucked his bangs back for him before reaching out and gently taking her hands, sensing her nervousness. "What is it, Amri?"
She squeezed his hands back; 'I really like you Steven,' she said, praying that neither of his Guardians walked in right now. 'More then a friend I think.' she felt her cheeks reddening again. 'No - I know its more then a friend. I have to know if you think of me the same way?' Well there it was..she had asked. Now she would have to wait, and hope for the answer she wanted.
Steven blinked a few times. Well...that certainly wasn't what he had been expecting. He opened his mouth before closing them, frowning, "Amri, I can't tell you that for sure, but I have to say I'm thought of it before... I just...I rushed into my last relationship. And well...I...I don't want to do that again."
She nodded, inwardly feeling a little sad. But he had thought of it before so she wasnt about to give up on him; 'I'm not asking to get married or anything like that you know.' she said softly. 'I just really like you - and spending time with you. I dont want to rush you. Just wanted to know if there was even a tiny possibility that you could like me as I like you.'
Steven smiled deeply, squeezing her hands gently, "There's more than a small chance, Amri. I'm just...a little apprehensive about the whole thing...the whole love thing... I like you, I do. But...anything deeper... Frankly, it just scares me now."
'I understand - I really do. I cant know what you feel because I've never loved anyone before...now.' she let go of his hands and covered her face with her cloak. 'I didnt say that!!' she squeaked. Okay now she wanted the floor to open up and swallow her.
Steven blushed softly before smiling and reaching out, gently hugging Amri, stroking her hair, "Hey, hey. There's no need to be embarrassed, Amri. All we have to do is get to know each better. The longer we know each other, the more comfortable I'll feel about it."
'Oh,' she said simply, dropping the cloak from her face and looking into his face. She nodded mutely, gingerly putting her arms around him and hugging him back. Kiss him! said her mind...noo - it was too soon, she told herself. But he was right there, and.. she leant closer and pressed her lips against his before she lost her nerve.
Steven blinked, again, a caught off guard. He colored significantly before gently leaning in and kissing Amri on the cheek in return, "We'll see how things work out, Amri," He whispered. "But I do like you. And I do want to get to know you better. That much, I know."
'Okay,' she said, loosening her hold on him somewhat. She smiled nervously. 'I'm glad no one walked in then,' she admitted.
Steven smiled, "Dad's at work. And Mom's probably still trying to put out the notebook," He said, grinning and hugging her against before pulling back slowly, still holding her hands.
'Well thats good. I mean I didnt want your Mom thinking I was a jezebel or something. Its my first visit here after all,' she chuckled, squeezing his hands again. This was nice - just holding his hands. She smiled at him. 'I wasnt going to say anything but I think I kind of lose my sense when your around.' she teased.
Steven smiled softly, "I'm sure she wouldn't think you were anything like that anyway. She's really understanding," He gently squeezed her hands, grinning softly. "No need to lose your senses. I'm no big thing, really."
'To me you are,' she said, looking down at their joined hands. She moved her fingers a little, entwining them with his - thinking how nice this was. But she shouldnt be moving ahead of herself; like he said - they would have to wait..and see.
Again, Steven blushed, peering down at their hands for awhile before jumping as his mother suddenly come storming out of the bathroom.
"Steven dear-god-I-wish-you-had-a-middle-name Kinora! You will NEVER make that potion again! I took me forever to get that gloop off of this notebook, and I was burned repeatively while doing it!" Kira screamed, thrusting the almost undamaged yet soaked notebook out at Steven, revealing the minor burns over her hands and up and down her arms.
"I..." Steven frowned, reluctantly pulling away from Amri to take the notebook. "I was just trying something different. I hated leaving my caldron unused except to to burn incense every once in awhile.
"Fine...fine, we'll talk about this when Trollax gets home," Kira said, sighing softly.
Amri almost fell off the seat when his Mom came in shouting, their hands flying away from each other whilst she tried to look like they hadnt been doing anything. 'Tea tree oil is a good natural antiseptic,' Amri piped up. 'If you need anything to help with the burns,' she suggested, trying to be helpful and take the heat off Steven.
"I'm fine. I'm fine," Kira said, shaking her head at Steven before sighing and turning to Amri. "Dear, do you think it might be too much of a trouble to ask you to come back later? I need to speak with Steven for a bit. A few hours should do it. Is it too much trouble?"
'If you need me to go I'll understand,' she replied. Well her brain did. Her heart wanted her to stay...and hold his hands and gaze into his eyes. She stood, rearranging her twisted cloak. 'Thank you for having me over.' she said to Kira. She looked at Steven, hoping that he wouldnt get into so much trouble that he wasnt allowed to see her.
Steven gave Amri a tight hug, "I'll see you in a few hours, ok?" He asked, nuzzling her cheek.
'I'll count the minutes,' she laughed a little, hugging him tightly in return, and blushing a little. She let him go reluctantly and headed for his front door.

It was way more then 2 hours before Amri found herself knocking on Steven's door once again. She had gone home, and had gotten lost in trying to make a particularly tricky potion. It was supposed to be a potion to enable a person to breathe underwater without use of breathing apparatus. It was a sort of charm in a potion; which was why it was so hard to make. She had changed again; having gotten essence of myrtle on her dress. Now she was wearing soft denim jeans in indigo, and a lilac fitted t-shirt. And of course her cloak. She stood and waited for the door to be answered.
