I killed my only two rats when I was smaller....
ON ACCIDENT!! I cried when I killed the first, one! And I was asleep when I killed the other one///

Well, its genetic, but, it gets triggered by a virus.
It usually starts with a red liquid (not blood) that tears from their eyes and nose, then their head begins to tilt.
