...giving me a chance to whinge about KRudd. Or the corner he keeps getting squeezed into. This time, executive salaries. Rudd's comments at the 'beginning-of-the-end' crisis in the financial sector, and its ripple effect in the economy.

He could never regulate private sector salaries, as he would allude, tapping into populist politics.

And now the report comes out that in fact, Aussie CEO's took a 16% cut over that past few years, and that all Rudd could really do is give the shareholder more power.

*facepalm. Not that he didn't do anything, it was because he never could, but said he could.

All I know is that if executives are still giving themselves ridiculously large paychecks in a financial crisis they are pretty sure that the business is goingu nder and they want to retire comfortable.

As a shareholder I'd be out of there fast, and reinvesting in a confident CEO who is willing to take a hit in their pay packet and settle for the long term.

It was found that Aussie CEO's took a 16% cut (an average, though it didn't dent any at Macquarie C smile which isn't bad I suppose. But it does indicate that over here, many are aware of any backlash, scrape a few mill off the top.

I will however question your definition of 'confident CEO. ol' Sol Trujillo was confident, confident of making a shitload of cash regardless.

Jon Fletcher was so confident he claimed 'he hadn't been in a supermarket for 25 years' when he took the top job at Coles Myer. And what a great job he did for the company, and the shareholder.

Sorry, I correct myself, you meant a strong CEO who is willing to take the good with the bad, and that would be good, but I think we treat our CEO's like we treat the coaches in the AFL. Sack when things look shaky.
