Once upon a time, there were two families. Both families were bitter rivals in the jeweler business. On one end, there was Roy Redd of Roy Jewelers. On the other end, there was Henry White of the Pure Jewels Corporation. Since grade school, through high school, into college, and continuing into their inherited business professions, the Redd and White maintained the family feud that extended past their lifetimes. And they too breed this hatred to their wives and daughters and sons.

But all is about to change with an arranged marriage.

Plot

Like the introduction suggests, this roleplay is based on two rival families: the Redds' and the Whites' (if upon reading that you got why this roleplay was called "War of the Roses" you get two points). These families have been rivals for decades. They are Cats and Dogs, Steelers and Browns, Nerds and Jocks, Indians and Cowboys, White and Black, etc. However, with the current economical downfall (look at me employing politics!) the Roy Red and Harvey White grievously met to make an arrangement. They knew they had to merge the companies, else both would go bankrupt. Being the businessmen they are, they could not let that happen. Yet neither could put aside their long family tradition and heritage surrounding both companies. So, with many arguments, negotiations, and scotch, they came to an agreement. The eldest Redd son would marry the eldest White daughter to merge the companies. Both children have just turned seventeen.

Setting

The companies themselves (Roy Jewelers and Pure White Jewels Corporation) collectively extend their retailers across the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan, and parts of Asia. But the Redd Mansion and the White Mansion are both located in the city of Springfield, USA (as the saying goes, keep your friends close, your enemies closer)...(Also, there are numerous Springfields' hence the city). Both families have resided there since the early '80s.

The Redd Mansion is on the north part of the city; the White Mansion is on the south part of the city. Both families enroll their children into the K-12 private school of the James Klingsmith Academy located in the center of the city. The city has movie theaters, dramatic theatres, a central park, an amusement park, a football stadium, a hockey team, a baseball team, a country club (that both families belong too), and a mayor.

The topography of Springfield is that the city is in a valley surrounded by mountainous hills and a thick woods. It goes through the four seasons to each extreme: really cold winters, really hot summers, warm springs, cool autumns. (Not in that order though lol).

Characters

Obviously, there characters are either part of the Redd family or the White Family. Until further notice, all characters up for roleplaying will have to be biological or matrimonially related to the families. However, the said characters don't have to live in the main Redd/White Mansion. You could play an uncle who lives in a penthouse or something. But these mansions are large enough and could have the entire extended family housing all the relatives. We'll see how it plays out.

Redd Family Tree
○ Roy Redd VIII, The Father, NPC
○ Roy Redd IX, Eldest Son (played by The Twinge)

○ Claudia Nichole White, Younger Daughter (played by Lady Elizabeth Greyfox)
○ Henry James White, Eldest Son (played by The Twinge)

Rules

+ The Guild's and Gaia's Rules and all that jazz
+ Romance is okay (we don't really need it, even though this is about an arranged marriage), but don't take it farther than kissing and hugging. Anything else can just be stated and moved on. Nothing wrong with it, we just don't need the detail.
+ Literacy is a must. I expect these to be novel-like posts...though without the novel-like-length. Just make sure the sentences flow, make sense, etc. No one on this guild seems to have this problem, but just in case.
+ Two paragraphs per post PER CHARACTER. If you're playing two characters, you need a minimum of two posts dedicated to each. If you choose to roleplay 6, you will need twelve paragraphs. You decided to.
+ Send me your profiles via a PM with the title "I Am Joining the War"
+ You don't need separate PMs for separate characters
+ Keep up with the roleplay, post at least once every three days. I have a life, you have a life, we all have lives but just check in and see if you can help more the plot along.
+ Last thing: No anime pictures in your profile pictures, m'kay? You can use drawings, photographs, or realistic art but anime pictures just kinda irk me. If you must, then you must, but avoid it. Thank you!

Okay. I think that's all for now. I may add more rules later...we shall see.

Roy Peter Red IX
played by The Twinge

I'm a boy.
You can call me Roy.
I turned 17 on December 16
I live in the main Red Mansion.
In the grand scheme of things, I'm the eldest son of the Red Family..
I have black hair with blue eyes.
I'm 6'0'' tall.

Let me tell you about myself...quiet and thoughtful. For a long time I knew my place in the family and have been studying to fulfill my father's wishes. I have a bit of a mischievous personality, though, and get a bit wild with my high school peers.

Up to this point...Growing up as the middle child, Roy knew that he was first in line to take over the family business. He often got the phrase, "Make me proud" from his father, and he grew up thinking he had to make his father proud. Yet, this did not stop some growing pains along the way. He's had failed relationships, failed friendships, and had friendships that have stuck all the same with accomplishments here and there. He has played soccer since he was four, and through that has made long-lasting relationships with his soccer mates at the Academy. Now in high school, he is the team captain of the Academy's soccer team. Also in his spare time, he participates in Science Club as secretary. He tends to go outside on walks and to get out of the mansion, so he hates rainy weather.

Unfortunately, business has never been his true passion, but he structured his life around making his father happy. He's been attending business conferences for his father since he was ten. The recent decision with his life came as a shock, but like always, he will try to make his father proud and complete this engagement. Despite his moral standing on the entire issue.

I like...soccer, science, reading, poetry, pleasing father.

But I don't like...being a disappointment, ignorance, people with no sense of humor, rainy days

Lastly, I would like to say I wish for the best of this situation...

Kaylin Red
played by x Second Setback x

I'm a girl.
You can call me Kay.
I turned 19 on July 4
I live in a small appartment on the west side of town.
In the grand scheme of things, I'm eldest daughter.
I have brown hair with dark brown eyes.
I'm 5"7 tall.

Let me tell you about myself... a self driven person who aims for her own independence. I have a hard time trusting people and even a harder time hiding my feelings. You could say I come off a little stuck up, but that's just because I've focused on other things that matter more than others and their problems. If you think you can change me and make me care, try. It'll be fun...

Up to this point... I'm still trying to find out who I want to be. It started after I became a preteen when I had developed to love the idea of being my own person. Living the way I want and being who I want to be. Of course, that person who I may be aiming for has always been a little corky but I'm okay with that, even if my family isn't. I have to admit that I have the mentality of being the oldest child in the family. I feel somewhat protective of my younger siblings which seems to lead me to feel the need to speak out against my father when I disagree with his decisions, so we've had our fair share of fights. Although mine and my father's biggest fights seem to be over the family business, in which I hate with a passion.

Now after highschool, I've decided to move out and live my life with my own efforts. Sure, I visit my family often and try to contribute to the family when I can, but I really I love my freedom. I usually support myself and never touch family funds just to know that I can live for myself, but myself. Never again will I have to take part in the family business... I hope.

I like...walks, orange juice, rewards for her efforts, sharing her opinions.

But I don't like...eggs, copy cats, having to depend on people, being guilt tripped.

Lastly, I would like to say I have a few biases against the white family, developed more from my father than anything else.

Amelia White
played by Leid

I'm a young woman.
You can call me Ame, or Lia..
I turned 17 on October 10
I live in the White mansion, currently..
In the grand scheme of things, I'm the eldest daughter of the White family..
I have long black hair with stormy gray eyes.
I'm 5' 6" tall.

Let me tell you about myself...Being passionate is a double edge sword. Passionate people are capable of great love matched by few, but are also capable of great anger. I have come to terms with this fact. I am quick to anger, but also quick to joy as well. I do hold grudges but I do make an effort to not have a chip on my shoulder.

Up to this point...I've always done well in school, and never was much of a typical rich snob, I have my moments where the fact that my family is rich has made things easier for me, I never have, for an instant, took anything for granted. I would always take the time to enjoy the little things in life like playing in the rain or climbing a tree, but I do love the things such a life has given me like my violin lessons, expensive clothes and make up, and ballroom dancing. Sure, my family can view some of my hobbies as odd for a girl of such a high breed, but since at the end of the day I know my place, I have not been labeled a black sheep. I get along with my family well enough for the most part, and I can be very polite and demure in public.

At school I am a part of a few groups; the choir and the music groups, and I volunteer at fundraisers because I really want to get in a good college. I always yearned for something more, something this life could never give me, but knowing what I must do in this life I try to think inside the box when I have to even if I don't like it.

I like...music, dancing, and running barefoot in the rain.

But I don't like...being dirty when I can't control it, people who know nothing about me yet try to insist I'm something I'm not, people who don't try to understand, fakes.

Lastly, I would like to say that despite my opinionated nature I can be very withdrawn, quiet, and reflective. I am also very against this forced marriage but I feel there is nothing I can do to get out of it.

Claudia Nichole White
played by Lady Elizabeth Greyfox

I'm a girl.
You can call me Claud.
I turned 16 on Jan. 19th.
I live two rooms away from my big sister in the White mansion.
In the grand scheme of things, I'm the younger daughter.
I have short black hair with hazel eyes.
I'm 5'3" tall.

Let me tell you about myself...Obstinate and just as passionate as my sister if not more so, I'm often misunderstood. I tend to fly off the handle and get offended easily. People tend to say I have a rather angry personality, but it's not true. It just takes a lot to make me smile. I guess you could say I'm a bit of an angry pessimist if you don't know me well. People that do know me well... Well there's not many. I'm rather guarded from outsiders because they always tend to assume I'm going to be a snob. That, or they want something. So I don't play well with others. But that certainly doesn't make me a bad person... does it?

Up to this point...I was born two months early. Premature. I had to fight for my life there for a while as I grew and gained what weight I could, but I made it. I've been a bit of a fighter ever since. In my younger years I tended to get sick a lot. But that didn't stop me from being rambunctious and curious about everything. I climbed trees and fences, and ran from guard dogs just like every other little kid would. As I grew up I began to take things apart to see how they worked. Parents used to get mad 'cause I could never put things back together at first. As I grew more though, I began to figure it all out.

During my high school years I've been growing increasingly pessimistic. The work's too easy in some classes, and too hard or bothersome in others. I hate math, but love English. It's not uncommon to find me finishing math in English class. However, I'm only making a C in math while I make As in English. I have a tendency to be a loner. I don't much like the other kids because they're only friends with me if they want something. I've often had classmates ask me for discounts on jewelry for their lovers around Valentines and Christmas. It typically gets them yelled at now. People are starting to get it through their thick skulls that I don't like them. End of story. I tend to wander off on my own in my free time. I still climb trees and run from guard dogs. I still take things apart to put them back together. Mostly pens though; I like the springs. I still get sick from time to time but I never admit it until it's bad. I guess it's all because of my nature...

I like...rain, books, figuring out how things work, doing dangerous or stupid things.

But I don't like...being told what to do, being asked for favors, numbers, and you.

Lastly, I would like to say I joined choir because I secretly look up to my sister, even though we fight constantly. I've got a pretty okay second soprano voice.

James Henry White
played by The Twinge

I'm a boy, retard.
You can call me White by friends, James by family..
I turned 15 on July 6th
I live the White House, where else?.
In the grand scheme of things, I'm eldest son..
I have black hair with hazel eyes.
I'm 5'7'' tall.

Let me tell you about myself...I'm not the nicest person, but I don't care what you think. I am deep ((or at least he THINKS he is)) and I have a goddamn right to my family's goddamn fortune.

Up to this point...been living my life like my dad wants. I've been going to school, getting grades, all that stuff. I may have messed up once or twice, but whatever. It's my life not his so my dad can just shove it. He didn't grow up as the only boy of his family. I grew up surrounded by estrogen and dresses. Even my tutors are dresses. This is probably why I grew up chasing girls and pulling their hair. I was always a troublemaker, I guess. I've used my powerful family to get what I want when I want it and how I want it. I constantly gave people things so they'd be my friend. Sorta how I work.

Recently, I've joined the band as lead singer and lead guitarist. We're called Prayer by Atheists. We haven't done much but pick a name, but we'll get there. I also recently learned that my sister go the business I was promised since I was a baby and even the Redd family gets it. Agh. AGH. It disgusts me so much. I will get revenge. I. Will.

I like...power, fame, black

But I don't like...father, Redds, my sisters

Lastly, I would like to say that the Redd's need to watch their damn back.

The date was January 8th, precisely 6pm. Snow trickled down from the gray skies, clouding the pavement. The Springfield Country Club was unusually empty for this time of the evening. The heavy snowfall discouraged usual patrons to make the commute to lounge or enjoy a meal. In fact, Roy (the IX) called ahead of time to assure the club was still opened for their appointment. Indeed the club was expecting the Redd family--as well as the White. Many waiters called off this night, fearing a full-out shoot out when the two families meet face-to-face. Most of the time, they time their visits so they do not intersect. Yet tonight, they arranged a meal at the same time. And they would share it together.

Roy drove himself down to the club. He owned his own car, after all, and he felt like arriving before his parents or siblings did. The drive over gave him time to think while listening to his iPod on his car's speakers. He was going to meet his "Bride-to-Be". He knew who she was, sorta. They were in the same school, same classes over all. He bumped into her a few times. But they ran in different circles. All his friends know that his family and the White family do not get along by blood. He never bothered with it, but still he kept out of their way and so forth.

He drove his car to the valet parking and headed inside. He went right to the pool table to shoot some pool while he waited. Seating would dinner would begin in thirty minutes. He still had time to think. Think about things like "Oh, I'm really going to run my dad's business now--AND his enemy's" next to "What will happen at school when I walk down the hallway and don't even speak to my fiance?" that lead to "Wait we might even be married BEFORE we graduate so I might have math class with my wife. Good god!" which finally lead to, "Wait--She's in the jewelry business-- WHAT KIND OF RING DO YOU GIVE TO A GIRL LIKE THAT?!"

He sighed, shooting the four ball into the left hand pocket. He was 17 going on 50.

This our ৳ime, the ȵight's our ȡay.

"Amelia you brat! Do you have my Muse shirt?!" Claudia yelled as she stormed her way to her sister's room. She growled as she pounded on the door. "You have it don't you?! Give it back!" She accused. This was everyday life in the White home. If Claudia wasn't flying off the handle and accusing her sister of something, something must have been wrong. The younger White sister stood as her sister's door and waited. She just knew that her brat of a sister had her band tee. She put her hands on her hips and tapped her foot impatiently. "I swear, if you don't open this door, I will break it down and destroy everything you ever owned."

Claudia had an inferiority complex when it came to her older sister. She hated feeling overshadowed in any way when it came to Amelia. Just because they were one year apart didn't mean she was the baby sister or anything. It just meant she had the unfortunate privilege of coming second. She hated that. She was second in everything. Amelia was prettier, more well mannered, made better grades... It made Claudia pissy just to think that her sister probably enjoyed this immensely. She didn't want to be overshadowed for the rest of her life, so she strived to be different. So while her sister was a perfect doll in society, she made it known that Claudia White was her own woman and wouldn't conform.

"Come on, you hussy! Don't have all danged day! Quit moping about and give me my shirt!" Claudia stomped her foot and folded her arms. She pouted a bit as she waited for her sister to answer her. This was ridiculous. Her sister should start yelling at her any minute now. Secretly, Claudia wouldn't know what to do if her sister wasn't there to fight with. That's why she was going to do everything she could to put this arranged marriage through hell to break it off. She couldn't let her sister go, it was too much to ask of her.

And Never Again && Never Again
they gave us two shots to the back of the head
And we're all dead now

While Claudia banged on her older sister's door, her younger brother was turning up his music in his room across the hall. My Chemical Romance blasted against the walls of James' bedroom, while he added to the noise by practicing his guitar. Probably not the most efficient way for him to practice, but at least he knew his sisters weren't listening to him while he rehearsed. They would judge him. Them and their "prissy" ways. Fighting over clothing and shirts and nail polish and ... god knows what else ... He tried to block all that out.

But it wasn't Claudia's normal riot outside his door that was putting James in a particular foul mood. The "family dinner" tonight at the Springfield Country Club was tonight. First off, it is that damn country club. Like hell he was wearing anything more than his tight black jeans, silver chains, and a skin-tight Guns for Roses T-shirt. Second off, this was not just some stuff family dinner where they were expected to act like they respected each other. Instead, this dinner would be the beginning of his oldest sister's engagement. Not just any silly thing, but an engagement that took away his throne. He sweated blood and dealt with his royal pains and he won't get rewarded? No. That won't happen. Not if he can help it.

Herr Drosselmeyer's doll there she is on stage
spinning as she sprawls, thank God the curtain falls.

Ugh! Amelia couldn't live in this ******** house anymore. While she was primping to meet her soon-to-be husband for the first time, that little sister of her's was trying to bang down her door, and her little brother played that ******** My Chem as loud as he could. Could she get some peace? No! Of course not. Sometimes Amelia would be able to go at it with her little sister for a while until someone had to intervene, but then there were times, like today, that she couldn't handle it, not knowing why her little sister didn't like her despite having wanted to be friends with her. Any hope of that was gone by now, of course, and if your family didn't like you, how could anyone else.

Yes, she did have the Muse shirt. She had asked to borrow it, as the two girls were close enough in size they could wear most of each other's clothes. Now, there were times they'd just take from each other, and who knows how that started, but there were times they'd ask. This was one of those times. Amelia borrowed it and held on to it for a bit too long, having had ran it through the wash to give back to her sister all nice and clean. However, she never had to chance to give it back because of the recent news, she had been more reclusive.

She stormed to the door, half ready for her day meeting the Roy Redd the ... whatever, and ******** if she was going to name her own son such a lame name. She took the shirt, flung open the door and threw it at her sister.

"There's your ******** shirt," her voice was an angry mutter, and she slammed the door shut as hard as she could, trying to drown out everything. She turned the little lock on the door knob and moved back to her make up mirror. Amelia sat herself again, picking up the eyeliner pencil and bringing it to her eye. Her hands shook and she had to stop for a minute. She breathed slowly, thinking in her head of calm and peaceful things that could relax her just enough so she could continue.

When she finally finished, her eyes accented, her lips lacquered, wrapped in fine clothes, her long hair pulled away from her face, yet flowing long down her back she smiled into her mirror. She looked the part of the happy bride-to-be, she wore the mask well. Who knows what the future held, maybe she didn't have to be married to this guy forever. Maybe they could agree to the marriage being secretly open. She'd never want to be unfaithful, even marrying someone she didn't love, she had to honor that. She could have her body but never her heart, and never, ever her soul.

Amelia decided to wait in her room until they were all ready to leave. She'd ride in the car that was planned for her to take. She thought of a fictional character for inspiration, to copy a smile from to show a reserved and innocent, yet motherly affection when meeting the other family. Quite the actress. It felt like forever, practicing that smile, holding back as her eyes started to sting, and the lump in her throat hardened.

She was throwing away the one thing she had always wanted; a family with a man she loved.

Claudia held the shirt in her hand and frowned. Well that had been unsatisfactory. She sighed and stomped back to her room, slamming the door as hard as she could. Her door framed rattled and she sighed. She was going to kill them, slaughter them all for taking her sister's fire. Now all she wanted to do was get her sister to hit her. Just once. Just to prove that there was something left in her. She threw the shirt on the bed. She didn't even feel like wearing it anymore. She sat beside it, starting at it quietly. Hell, it was even clean. Amelia was like that sometimes; nice despite the quarrels they got into. She sniffed unhappily. "Stupid Redds having to come and mess everything up."

She stood and made her way over to her dresser, peering into the mirror on top of it. She frowned at her appearance. Her red rimmed eyes belied her mini-tantrum in the shower earlier. Her hair was still wet on the under side, it was just too thick and short to be blow-dried correctly. She grabbed the towel she'd thrown into the hamper on the left side of the dresser and began to try and dry it that way. It worked for the most part. She ran her brush though it again and laid it flat. Still unsatisfied with her eyes, she pulled out her makeup and began to put some on. She hated wearing it most of the time, but she needed to hide the evidence of her being upset. Amelia would only use it against her.

"You look like Hell, Claud."
She told her reflection patiently. She'd rimmed her eyes in black and put on white eyeshadow and she still didn't like it. "Beggars can't be choosers." She muttered as she put her makeup away and shoved it in a drawer. She wandered over to her closet and pulled out a hanger, then pulled her shirt from her bed and put the two together. She sighed as she hung the shirt up. She then went through and picked out a tee that wasn't even close to her Muse one. She frowned and pulled it on after taking off the tank she'd been wearing, then promptly covered it with a Green Day hoodie. She wondered if it would piss her sister off, get a rise out of her, cause her to yell at her. It's what she wanted. She laughed, realizing what a masochist she was. But if Amelia was yelling at her, it meant everything was alright.

And Never Again && Never Again
they gave us two shots to the back of the head
And we're all dead now

Henry White fixed his casual suit in the mirror, with slight aid from his wife. She was cold to him, not pleased with this 'arrangement' he had made with the Redd family. Her poor daughter was being used to help her husband's selfish goal of preserving the company. It was very sickening to her.

Henry White was in no better condition. He was frustrated by this arrangement, even more so that his son was not marrying one of the Redd girls. But James was too young and far from where he needed to be. Amelia was more mature than that brat. He was so fortunate to have such a daughter.

Harvey gave himself the pleasure of rounding up his three children. He started with James, pounding on the door followed by his bellowing voice. "James White! Turn off that awful music, put on a clean shirt, and get yourself to the limo NOW." He waited for the music to turn off, but when it didn't, he slam open the door and stormed into the room. He found the music player and unplugged it without a second thought.

"What the hell Dad?!" James exclaimed, throwing his guitar on the bed so he could fold his arms across his chest.

"Get dressed and go down to the limo in five minutes." Henry slammed the door.

Next, Henry shouted the same message to Amelia and Claudia, then he himself met his wife in the limo to depart. He poured himself a Scotch.

"You wanted this," Mrs. White told him with a sigh. Henry grumbled at her. She didn't know this marriage was a red-herring. No one did. Which made it brilliant.

After Henry left James' bedroom, James took his fist and punched his bed. He hated his dad so much. How could he just walk in here like that and demand he come to some stupid dinner that, inevitably, ended his claim to the family fortune? Still, he had to meet his enemy to destroy them. He pleased his dad's wishes and put on a plain, black T-Shirt and, eventually, walked down stairs to the family limo.

Herr Drosselmeyer's doll there she is on stage
spinning as she sprawls, thank God the curtain falls.

Across the hall she could her the conflict between her brother and her father. She waited to hear the call for her, to which she replied, "Yes, father!" She sank back down into her seat, smoothing her hands over her skirt, taking the fabric between her fingers and feeling this. Was this real? She could feel the knot in her throat tighten and grow, her cheeks flushed and her stormy gray eyes burned hot with tears that she couldn't let fall. Discreetly she bit the inside of her lip and breathed in a sharp breath forcing a calm over herself. It took her a few minutes but she managed to put on her mask of calm joy.

Amelia went through the hall contemplating if this was the worst day of her life or the best. On one hand she wouldn't have to live with her bratty sister or spoiled little brother. Sure, she loved her family but she didn't like the people they have become. She remembered back when she was much younger, there was a time when she and Claudia got along. She remembered James as a little kid and even he had a time before all of this that he was so sweet and adorable. On the other hand Amelia was going to be in a loveless marriage and there was a slim chance for happiness there.

Passing through the hall she wouldn't be able to address anyone, she didn't have it in her at the moment. She slipped into the limo, pressing her knees and feet together, then buckling in like a lady should. She looked across to her father, barely met his gaze, glanced to her mother, then gazed out the window, waiting. She'd be quiet, very quiet, her eyes distant, and would only speak if addressed, and even then it may not be more than a few words spoken softly. While not looking on the verge of crying, she didn't seem in the least bit happy. She was saving all of that for when they got there.

Kaylin Red
___________________________________________

Kaylin found herself standing up on the city bus. Her hands were having trouble holding onto the silver bar as they were chilled from the winter air. 'Shoulda brought gloves.' Kay told herself silently. The bus was packed at this time of night, mostly of people heading off to a small get together with friends. Usually Kay would have that same goal, but not on this dreary night. Today she knew, would change everyone's lives forever. The girl's eyes caught on the club's name as she was brought back to reality. Almost desperately, Kay reached for the yellow line on the side of the bus and pulled it. A ding followed as the words "Next Stop" lit up at the front of the bus. She had missed the stop for the club, although that didn't mean much more than a little more walking to do. Kaylin muttered a complaint to herself as she exited, only about the disapointment of a few more minutes of winter walking.

After trudging a block and a half in the cold, the eldest daughter reached the club doors. 'It's alright, everything is going to be fine. They're just people. Even if you were told to hate them, they're just people.' Kay repeated in her mind while sighing. The chilled brass handle made her hand shiver as she quickly pulled the door open and headed inside.

Her eyes caught a glimpse of her brother. "Hey there, good looking." She joked as she strolled over. Her parents never approved of her social approach, but Kay didn't care. "I heard someone's taking their life for the family business, even being married for it. Sad thing is, I heard it's this really great kid to. You know anything about it?" Kay reached the pool table and leaned against it. Her head carelessly hanging to one side before tapping her fingers on the wood. A wide smile spread across Kay's face while she tried to sympathize how in the world her father would pull this crap on Roy. She was the one childern that wanted nothing to do with the business. Her views that it was just a family legacy that forced people into stupid things like this. So while usually she would never attend these things, she had to. For her brother.

Roy continued to shoot pool by himself for the ten minutes. They were the heaviest ten minutes of his life. It would probably continue until dinner, but Kay showed her pretty face. He smiled and lost most of his tension. He loved his older sister. She may be moved out and far from the house, but he kept her close to his heart. Plus, she was probably the only person in his family he knew he could ACTUALLY joke with. Everyone else accused him of brute behaviors.

"Oh, I heard." He hit the red ball against a wall, then hit a blue ball into the pocket. "Great kid, but he's a sucker for the 'for the family' s**t. I hear he's doing it because he can't get a real chick at his stuck-up school." He put up the pool stick, looking over at his sister. "Hey Kay. Nice to see you." He sat on the pool table. His butt was kissed enough--he figured it could sit wherever he wanted. "Thanks for swallowing your pride and showing up. I'm really glad to have someone where." He rubbed the back of his neck, sighing. He was tempted to run away to her apartment with her, just run away. But he couldn't. Something...still...kept him back.
