Her small ears twitched as she raised her paw to take a careful step forwards. The vole raised its head, nose wiggling, as it smelled for a predator’s scent. But Nyu was downwind this time and her scent could not reach the creature’s nostrils. She continued again, a bit slower this time as she inched closer to the small critter.
Again the vole raised its head but couldn’t smell anything so it went back to dinning on some fresh berries.
Nyu felt her stomach grumble as she watched the juices pour from its mouth. So torturing. But it wasn’t the berries that interested this female. It was the fresh, raw flesh that she hungered for.
Nyu paused as she was just in landing distance of the vole. Her hind legs getting inpatient as she looked at her meal. She quickly calmed them down as not to make any more sounds to scare away her breakfast.
Suddenly, Nyu leaped out of her hiding spot. The vole dashed to the side and hurried into a thick thicket. Nyu was left empty-handed again. A heavy sigh escaped from her vocals as she held her head in shame. She would never get this hunting thing down…never…

Lelei licked his paws clean after eating his hearty meal of fresh river trout. He loved his meats. Berries and fruit never satisfied his hunger much. The sun was slowly setting as night began to fall. He wasn't sure if he should head back home just yet. His dad, Neigalomeatiga, was most likely resting the day away like always. Lelei wasn't in the mood to go look for him either. Instead, he settled on finding his sisters. Maybe they'd have something fun to do before it was too dark out. Lelei sniffed the air carefully trying to catch Abhidi's or Manasvita's scent. Caught it! He could smell the faint overly-sweet scent of Abhidi floating in the air. He quickly started running toward it to catch her before she moved out of his range.

Nyu breathed deeply as her eyes looked up at the sky. The sun was slowly setting behind the mountains and soon darkness would overtake the forest. Not good. Her stomach rumbled not yet satisfied, as she wanted the taste of raw flesh. But Nyu knew that such a meal would be rare to come across, as hunting wasn’t one of her best attributes. She grumbled to herself as she left the vole in peace. As she left the small thicket, she could’ve sworn the little sound of someone laughing. Great. Humiliated this time too.
The young female didn’t have very far too go. Her small den wasn’t that far from the thicket and was close to a small patch of berries. Nyu was careful not to pick all of them off and devour each juicy berry because she didn’t want to travel very far to find food.
She wriggled her nose, tail flickering behind her as she walked groggily back to her shelter; which was nothing more than two rocks almost caving on top of one another. She brought in a couple patches of moss and soft leaves to make the floor more soft and comfortable and had neatly stacked some berries toward the back for some snacking. But her home wasn’t anything special. It provided her a shelter and that’s about it.
But there was no one to go home to because Nyu lived on her own. She sighed deeply, jumping up onto a fallen tree and walking on top of it. She sniffed the air, mouth drooling a bit as she peered over the side—Mushrooms! She licked her lips and pounced out, digging at the earth and munching on the soft mushrooms. They were delicious and had a different taste, but she still yearned for meat.

Abhidi frowned as she watched the sun continue setting... She was bored. Where were her siblings when she needed them? She slowly began to make her way through the shrubbery around her. Surely there had to be something new and interesting to do. Everything felt so lackluster lately.
Her stomach growled reminding her that she needed to eat. She looked at her current surrounding to see if there was anything decent to munch on. There were large bushes with prickly leaves, but no fruit. There was no body of water around and she couldn't smell any kind of small animal either. That was typical. She always seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. At least it felt that way. She decided to try and head home instead. Surely her father would have something to eat there. Lelei continued to make his way toward his sister. He focused on her scent to make sure that he wouldn't be distracted by all the other scents of the valley. She couldn't be that far away. Along the way he began to pick up another scent... What was that smell? Surely he had never smelled it before. It definitely wasn't a raccoon or a drake.
He stopped for a moment contemplating whether or not he wanted to continue to find his sister or follow this new enticing scent. He decided on the latter. His adventurous spirit was itching for something new. Hoping that he wouldn't be disappointed with what he found, and eager to find it before the sun set, he bounded toward his new direction. There was something there that he hadn't come across before. He was determined to find out who or what it was.
