Ever wonder about the truth behind legends, myths and fables? What inspired the stories of vampires, werewolves and dragons? Truth be told, there are creatures that take on similarities to these creatures of myth. Three paranormal cultures exist within the world and those three cultures are split into many different tribes. These tribes are where young paranormals are normally raised till a point when they can enter an academy. The academies exist as both a training centre and mutual ground for the ‘students’. These Academies are hidden in plain sight from humans; they are framed as private academies for the super elite. Having the schools hidden in plain sight allows the students to practice keeping human forms and controlling there power like they will need to do when they enter normal society, also this helps to keep the damage from the fights between the three to a minimum. There are three different skill rankings in each academy; each rank has a badge with the academy logo. The three ranks are Junior, Senior and Council.

Setting:
Place; Wentworth Academy, to humans it seems a school for the super elite but it is really an academy that trains Ukiyo, Koudo and Kikou for their future. There are no set classes and students go to study, train or claw their way up the social ladder whenever they want. There are canteens, courtyards and the dorms are shared by both genders although everyone has separate rooms (room size goes up with ranking).
Time: Present day, a new school year has started. Over the next few weeks many students would be coming to the academy; both those who have studied previous years and those just starting. Oh and it is spring.

Cultures:
Ukiyo; The Ukiyo are born human; they are created when the newborn baby of a normal person is taken and has its energy drained from older Ukiyo, thus the baby will drain ‘life’ form other things to live. A Ukiyo will grow at a normal rate till maturity (normally 16 - 18 ) when growth will slow dramatically allowing an average life of 500 years, providing they feed on ‘life’ regularly. Draining ‘life’ can be done with a skin to skin touch of anyone other than an Ukiyo apart from the Koudo which with a touch will wither the energy within an Ukiyo (the longer the contact the move chance of dying, the same with taking ‘life’ energy). This causes conflict between the two cultures. Ukiyo have weak transforming powers only being able to transform part of their bodies, only having one subhuman transformation (e.g. wings, horns, fishtail). Ukiyo are strong when it comes to resiting chants and can cast complex incantations easily Ukiyo are fast but lack the upper body strength of the Koudo. Ukiyo are infertile as a result of the way they live.
Koudo; Koudo is a race similar to humans. They are naturally born as meat eating beasts with human like aspects (like a wolf that walks on its hind legs and has hand-like paws). Koudo have two transformations other than their natural one; the normal look of the animal they take characteristics from and a human form. They are slower than Ukiyo but much stronger. Although they have very weak ability when it comes to casting spells and incantations they have improved senses and other beasts and animals tend to obey them if the Ukiyo’s blood is strong. Koudo live for about 400 years and stop growing when they reach the age of adulthood (normally about 20).
Kikou; This race is older than humans, but to be able to coexist they evolved to be able to take the shape of humans and eventually they started to have children that looked like humans but once the child grew (about 10 – 12) they would be able to transform. Prior to adulthood (sometime between 10 and 20) Kikou stop growing completely and live to be about 600 years old. A Kikou’s true form is similar to that of a Chinese dragon and stands on all floors at about 6 feet tall. Apart from its human and ‘dragon’ form a Kikou with strong blood (no more than half human) can take the form of one animal. Kikou have much more ‘life’ energy than humans and thus young Kikou became popular game for Ukiyo although this is against the ruling of the Council of Elders. This led to their being little pure blood Kikou left. A Kikou does not reach full strength until about 50 years of age (at which they are a little stronger that the other cultures) and has to wait till 100 before their wings are big enough to fly. Unlike a human who would more than likely die from an Ukiyo ‘feeding’ Kikou would become weak unless they have prolonged exposure where they would have a likelihood of dying.

Skill Rankings:
Junior; Normally a new student at the school would take 1 – 2 years to progress from this level depending on the amount of prior training and their blood. Black uniform.
Senior; The step before graduating; polishing skills, making ties and connections to form powerful alliances you will need in the future. Likelihood is you will go to war against other tribes and cultures sometime after leaving. Black uniform.
Council; Like a student council but they are more just role models, they have no real duties. There are 6 council members per academy; two of each culture. They are seniors who are powerful, have good blood or have good connections. If something bad happens within the council it will more than likely send ripples thought the whole academy. White uniform.
(For both uniform looks I suggest reference to the vampire knight uniforms.)

Important terms:
Blood; In reference to Ukiyo it is the strength of the person as a baby; a weak baby would create a weaker Ukiyo. With Koudo and Kikou it is the amount of human heritage one has; the less human the more powerful (pure blood is no human blood).
Life energy; Basically like normal energy but taking it from a human will more than likely kill them.

Just to be clear:
Ukiyo are created before their first feeding, thus they need to be transformed only a few hours after birth. The closer to birth they are transformed the better they are.
Ukiyo can choose to absorb ‘life’ with a touch to someone or something else’s skin (must be a living creature), but touching the skin of an Koudo will drain them without choice with no effect to the Koudo.
Ukiyo are similar to vampires, but their transforming ability has led to the stories of mermaids, angels and centaurs among other things.
Ukiyo do not turn to ash in the sun nor do they sparkle.
Eating food and drinking water will make an Ukiyo feel sick so they avoid it if possible. Koudo and Kikou both eat normally but Koudo has a tendency to like meat a lot.
The better the ‘blood’ of someone the better they tend to be treated in society. This is more evident with Koudo and Kikou than Ukiyo.
Koudo tend to stay in human form most of the time instead of their true form.
All Koudo natural forms are more beast than man unlike the Ukiyo which can transform but are more human than beast.
The more human heritage one has the more their lifespan will shorten to match and the less strength they will have.
Young Kikou are weaker than the other races but it they focus their strength they are able to hold out against them for a story while.
The Council of elders are a collection of the wisest, strongest and most influential members of the cultures who have seen many years of life. They look over the academies and command respect and authority.

Council of Elders Academy Rules:
Uniform should be worn during normal human schooling hours to help stop suspicion.
Revealing any form other than that which looks like a human in front of anyone other than on of the three cultures will lead to disciplining, possible expulsion and the probability that those who saw it will be disposed of.
Killing another student is strictly forbidden and without high contacts you will more than likely be expelled or executed, however injuring another student in not forbidden.
Look up to and respect, protect and serve the two members of the Academy Council that are of your culture, they are your representatives.
Do not try to harm any of the Academy Instructors
Draining the ‘life’ of other Wentworth Academy members with result in punishment.
