Hi, I swear I am not a hipster, but I listen mostly to Japanese Indies Music. The links go to youtube videos of the musicians
biggrin Most of them I know personally and chat with in person, on twitter and so on.
Isao Kokoro: A street musician I met after work one day on a street corner. It was cold but I stayed and listened to him for a good half an hour. I would offer info about ordering CDs, but he is discontinuing all of his current ones at the end of the month so ordering them would be kind of impossible unless I begged him profusely.
Ueda Takahiro (USAGI): A musician originally from Osaka Ueda san and his partner Sugi (who together form USAGI) will be going mainstream this January, so purchasing his stuff will become a lot easier than the current system of hunting him down at live performances, but it will become more expensive to watch him sing since he will be signed with Universal Music Japan.
Lost Ross (Tabei san): A fairly new street band, currently with a demo CD and first mini album released (both of which I bought the first night I met their vocalist Tabei san). This band is one that is also a little harder to get music from because you usually purchase directly from them at live performances, but if you really like the music I can probably talk to Tabei san about methods for sending the disks (signed) over to where ever you are.
Higenjitsushugi (Unrealism): This band as been a thing for about a year now. There use to be 3 members, but now there are only two; Katsu and Haruya. The two boys do street performances every Thursday but only ever want to release videos on their own, which is unfortunate. They also have a radio show, so if you are interested, I can get you the details for that. They recently released their first mini album which features a full professionally recorded version of the song in the youtube video as well as the song that always opens up their radio show. This band will also be responsibly for my street debut.
SANDLOT: This is a live house only band. They do not do street lives, only performances in live houses, usually in Saitama prefecture (right above Tokyo). I have not actually gotten to meet this band personally yet but I chat with the vocalist sometimes on twitter and he is just freakin adorable! Ha ha. I intend to go to one of their lives soon to meet them even though I already have their two CDs already
biggrin If you want any more info about these bands or really like em, let me know and I can give you lots of info. Also, the only band that actually speaks English at all is Higenjitsushugi, and only their lead vocals speaks English (that being Katsu).
