Setting

The Ethiria Mansion, home to a Mistress Catherine Vega, lays deep within the Andromeda Forrest. Few come to visit the lonely Mistress for fear of a haunting aura surrounding the mansion. Its basement is a dungeon, lined with an assortment of eery cells. Its attic, is a void of darkness that the mistress herself dares not enter.
For years Catherine has lived in The Ethiria Mansion, content on being alone and undisturbed. But a turn of events might tip the scales of her long balanced life.

Prologue
Late one evening a soft knock upon the mansion door disrupted Catherine's quiet, and peaceful, dinner she had been enjoying. Gathering up the train of her long gown the Mistress quickly made her way to the front door. She opened it a crack and peered out at the 9 visitors standing on her doorstep.

"Hello, May I help you?" After a quick glance over the group she had second thoughts about her offer.

The Leader stepped forward and replied with his own question "Excuse us miss, but how far is the closest town?"

Catherine raised a skeptical brow at his question "Andromeda is the closest, but that's still twenty miles from here. What business do you have there?" Something about the false smiles on the group's faces, and a twinkle in the leader's eyes, caused Catherine to shiver.

A sly smile suddenly cut across the leader's face "Nothing just yet. Twenty miles you say?" His smile deepened into a maniacal grin "So no one will be able to hear you scream then?"

He shoved the door open with such speed that Catherine was knocked backwards onto the floor. She quickly jumped to her feet and with an involuntary yell turned to run. But the leader had caught her arm. He started to pull her against him. She managed to twist her arm free and made a dash for the staircase. The Leader let a curse escape his lips and stared after her. The rest of his gang followed closely on her heels. Catherine flew up the first staircase then turned to her right and ran down the hall. One of the trappers was twirling a rope over their head. Catherine could hear the rope buzz as the air swirled around it. Making a quick turn to the left she sped down another hallway. A dead end made her stop. She stared at the wall in front of her and fear quickly overwhelmed her. The trapper carrying the rope flicked his wrist and made a cowboy toss. Catherine turned in time to see the rope fly over her head. It sank to her waist and tightened causing her arms to be pressed against her sides. The trapper did a sharp yank on the rope which forced Catherine to fall on the ground. She let a stream of some very un-lady-like curses roll off her tongue and struggled to free her self. With a casual walk the leader made his way to her side. He smiled down at her and she refused to return his gaze. The leader knelt with one knee placed on Catherines spine. The Mistress felt a damp cloth move over her mouth. She moaned and struggled desperately to free herself, but it was to no avail. The chloroform-doused cloth finally stopped her movements and the Mistress now laid limp. Within the confines of her once peaceful home the Mistress was now under the control of its intruders...

Catherine is bound and determined to reclaim her home but she can't do it without help. Are you willing to risk your own life to save others and return The Ethiria Mansion to its rightful owner? Or will you be content with being a slave? It's your choice...

Catherine was finally starting to wake up. Her eyes fluttered open and her head swayed slowly from side to side. "We'll I'm certainly not going to take more then one sleeping pill before bed anymore." She laughed to herself but quickly stopped as her eyes took in the surrounding room. "How the hell did I get here?" She looked down and saw the rope around her. Both hands were tied to the back of a little wooden chair she was sitting in. Any movement aside from her neck, and head, was restrained. What took place before she was knocked out suddenly came back to her, and she let out a loud yell. Someone's life was going to be a living hell, and it seemed like for the time being, it was going to be Catherine's.

Shchuka Bolotnikov
Щука Болотников

xxxxNow that things had settled down and Shchuka had a chance to put his feet up in front of the fire they'd build in the living room hearth, he was starting to feel sleepy. The room in was warm and everything smelled vaguely of pine. The smell reminded him of bitter nights spent tucked away by warm fires in the old country, and of having tea and medianyky with pretty girls whose fingers tasted like honey. If he wasn't so sleepy, the memories would have made him restless, but as it was, he was so comfortable and warm that he just sank a little further back into the arm chair he'd taken up residence in.

xxxxThey'd landed in some awful places over the years, but this... Shchuka smiled to himself. He could really get used to moving into places like this. Amazing luck, really, the lady of the house living alone in such a vast structure without even a servant to keep the place dusted... I wonder if she has tea, he thought to himself in Russian, day dreaming of warm porcelain as he dozed. And a cake or two wouldn't be too much to ask for... would it? Not in a house this size... But, he had to remind himself, it isn't as though she has servants to make them for her, or anybody to eat them with. He wondered if the new girl, Anya or Anna (or something), could make tea cakes. He thought, with a sleepy grin, that he might keep her for himself if she could make honey cookies.

Catherine had placed herself in another predicament. The chair she was so tightly bound to had somehow, accidentally, fallen sideways. So now, the poor Mistress was tied to a chair that had her face, resting against the filthy attic floor. "Well...Isn't this just perfect..." she mumbled to herself. "Why the hell would they put me up here? There is an excellent dungeon that's more or less made for prisoners..." As she talked an exhale of breath made a dust cloud go up and into her face making her start to cough.

Shchuka Bolotnikov
Щука Болотников

xxxxShchuka was debating weather he was actually hungry and thirsty enough to warrant expending the energy required to get out of his comfortable, warm chair and to first find Annabell and then coheres her into making him something to eat-- when he heard a dull thud from somewhere above. He glanced up at the ceiling instinctively, not terribly interested by such a muted and distant sound, before realizing that a noise that faint might have come from the attic. The attic, of course, being where they'd thrown the lady of the house to think things over until she saw things their way...

xxxxThere weren't a lot of gang members around at the moment; some of them were still out, collecting bounty, and they'd sent another to tell everybody where to rendezvous when they were ready to meet up again... and that didn't leave a lot of them to guard everything around Catherine's house while they waited. Shchuka glanced around for somebody to pass off responsibility to-- and found the room deserted. Being a creature of water, who preferred his time spent in small lakes and streams, Shchuka a general distrust of large, empty human habitations. They had always felt strange to him, though he could never quite place why they made feel so essentially uneasy, and this one was a bit spookier than most... So to distract himself, he grumbled a bit, and pulled a rolled cigarette from behind his ear, which he lit it carefully in the fire as he tried to convince himself that he hadn't actually heard anything noteworthy. It really wasn't worth the bother of climbing all those damn stairs to check anyway.

xxxxHe knew he was just being lazy and nervous; he was a trapper and not a breaker for a reason. Shchuka could generally not be trusted with things that required any amount of personal accountability because, for one thing, when slaves frustrated him he had the bad tendency of trying to eat them. From his perspective, it solved the problem, but from his boss's, it created many new ones. Accordingly, Shchuka no longer dealt with the prisoners after he'd caught them. Still, there wasn't much else to do, so he decided to make the long trek up into the attic anyway. It was likely that the humans hadn't heard the sound, and it could be a hassle for him if the lady escaped. Since he could turn into a horse at will, he'd probably be sent out to find her; being a shape shifter was great, but it usually landed him loads of undesirable jobs. Better to just be sure, he thought as he climbed the stairs, wishing he could just find some warm little tub to fall asleep in while in the the form of a fish.

xxxxIt took him a little while to get all the way to the attic, but he did, eventually. It was dark and musty and cold up there, but he peered through the gloom and eventually spotted the mistress's chair, which toppled over with her still tied to it. He'd hissed, "Belokurva!" with a snarl of irritation and started across the room to right her before he could stop himself-- but as he neared her he slowed, thinking it over. Instead of helping her up, Shchuka knelt down on the old, dusty floor about five feet away and blew a lazy plume of smoke at Catherine's head. "Are you very comfortable, Madame?" he asked in his strange, Slavic accent, a small grin twisting the corners of his lips.

((haha, sorry if I'm kind of stretching with him hearing her a bajillion floors away... just looking for something to do...))

The new cloud of dust almost sent Catherine into another fit of coughing, but she held her breath till the particles had settled. With a glare that could kill the Mistress stared at the young man. He seemed more amused then concerned and Catherine hated him even more for it. "Do I look comfortable?" her voice was coarse because of the dust and lack of water. "If you had any inch of intelligence you would have put me in the dungeon." She wanted to scream at him but she knew better. "I'm sure you are on the edge of hysteria right now. I'd be laughing at myself right now too if it wasn't for the onslaught of dust. So, I ask you kindly to please right my chair." Catherine was in no position to threaten him so kindness was the only option for her at the time.

Shchuka Bolotnikov
Щука Болотников

xxxxShchuka listened patiently, quite content to watch as she tried to speak with her face pressed to the filthy floor. He couldn't blame her for being cross with him; he knew from past experience that if he were in the same situation, his first reaction wouldn't be the most polite... but he was a slaver now, and that meant that it was his job to take advantage of the small mistakes people made. He wished the boss was here, though; Shchuka never had been very good at being cruel, though he got better at it the longer he spent in the gang. He did know, however, that he didn't like being called unintelligent, even if putting her in the attic hadn't been his decision. He took this into account as she continued to speak.

xxxxNear the end of her plea, he started to look bored, and busied himself with dragging his fingers through the dust on the floor and rubbing it between his fingers. Shchuka loved mud, but he'd never cared for dust. He looked back up at her, clearly bored, and blew the silt from his fingers before taking another drag from his half-finished cigarette and blowing that at her too. "You say you have dungeon?" he asked with some small degree of interest, smoke streaming from his nose and mouth as he spoke. "Of course, we have not had opportunity to search the house fully yet, but dungeon would be useful."

xxxxShchuka sat back on his heels, looking thoughtfully down at her before adding, "What is nice lady like yourself doing with dungeon anyway? Very strange. Is there water down there?"

Aiden

Without thinking about it Aiden had wondered into a nice little room on the Northwest edge of the manner. She never liked the small room humans toiled away in but highly preferred the privacy of them, and today especially it would be nice to be alone.
Today they had caught a new one, and the fun of breaking in a new slave always made Aiden exited. She needed time to think of the new things she would get to enjoy with this one.
'Even better,’ she thought ‘is the fact that this one seems feisty. Not like some of the others those silly trappers have brought back… I might even be able to have some real fun with this one before her mortal flesh gives in and begins to rot away.’
Aiden smiles lightly at the thought of it all, but quickly reminders herself that the master doesn’t like it when she kills them… at least not on purpose.

It was apparent to Catherine that this young man had no care regarding her situation. After letting out a slow and controlled breath-which had no dust cloud follow-she answered his questions. Not like being tied to a chair in your own attic gave you room to threaten someone. "Yes, there is a dungeon. It has a canal system that runs from the house out to the main lake." She kept her voice calm and friendly, but certainly not without effort on her part.

((Sorry if my posts are short. I find it hard to put enough detail in for more then one paragraph.))

Aiden

After a bit of daydreaming, Aiden decided that it was about time to go and introduce herself to the new pet. “Catherine” she whispered to herself over and over as she finished tying a small pail red bow into her hair. She wanted to make a good impression considering she would, hopefully, be spending a lot of painfully enjoyable time with the stubborn girl. ‘Fist’ she though, a slight smile forming on her pail face ‘I will go get some water for her. She must be thirsty and I want this one in top form for our playtime.’
After pertaining the glass she began to meander her way up the long set of stairs and threw the narrow halls to the attic, spending time to look at every painting hanging on the slowly aging wall. She liked the pictures of open valleys the best and only though they might be better with a bit more red in the sky, or on the grass depending upon witch picture she happened upon.
Soon enough however she found herself staring at the attic door. Aiden stood for a secant wondering if she looked alright in her red lace dress, and hoping the young girl had not some how managed to kill herself like the one from a few months ago. That would take all the fun out of things. However she was barely able to contain her excitement at the thought of the weeks to come and decided to slowly open the door.
When she saw the boy sitting on the floor in front of what she thought could only be a very uncomfortable slave she stepped back slightly in surprise. The boy she new was a trapper. A young man with a thick accent who sometimes even at her best she could not understand. He seemed bored even though it was obvious they were talking and though she thought she might be acting a little brashly she stepped forward and said softly,

“I didn’t think your kind was supposed to be up here.”

Shchuka Bolotnikov
Щука Болотников

xxxxTurning to glance over his shoulder at Aiden, Shchuka glowered at her for a moment before clearing his throat and raising his eyebrows at her. "My kind?" he asked unpleasantly, immediately assuming she was referring to his race. As a vodyanoy, he'd never been made to feel welcome among humans who knew what he was; even here, though people called him a noggel or a kelpie, nobody trusted him. Of course, with his race's natural proclivity toward seducing and devouring their victims, he couldn't say that their mistrust was unwarranted... but it got to him sometimes. Shchuka generally tried not to think about his bad experiences in the old country. The people were harder there, and though in this region the residents called him a creature of faerie and reacted with fear and mistrust, the people where he grew up thought of him as an evil spirit. They thought of him as a creature who had once been human but must have been so frightful in life that he had been transformed, doomed to wonder the earth as a monster, and they treated him accordingly.

xxxxAny mention of his race or any derisive comment setting him apart put him on edge, made him want to fight. "There is no rules for 'my kind' being in attics, mavka. What of you? Don't you belong in forest somewhere?"
