Battlecry
Fight for a cause for as long as they pay you.

If you close your eyes, this place is just the same as any other, every other place you’ve worked. Before, it was different, but you were too busy to notice. But now that the battle is done, you have time to reflect. It is not a pretty picture that surrounds you. The ground is churned and muddy, and the air is filled with the smell of blood and other unsavory things. The camp is eerily silent, except for the sounds from the medic’s tent, but you have learned to tune those out. By morning, there will be more dead to mourn, and others to celebrate having pulled through. Win or lose, it doesn’t matter, though winning will probably increase your paycheck. Either way, the war is over, and you are going to move on.

Crimson Company is a mercenary corps. Fighters-for-hire that are generally looked down upon by regular armies because they fight for pay, mercenaries are still useful, and often hired to assist in battles. Despite the general impression, good mercenary companies (like Crimson Company) have a strong sense of honor. They have the choice to not fight for causes they think are unjust, and tend to be better disciplined than the armies of most lands. The fighters are all very skilled, certainly- Crimson doesn’t take many rookies, and those they do are exceptional. The Company is almost like a family to the fighters in it. They take care of each other no matter what, because to them, the Company comes first.

Rules of the Roleplay
Code of Conduct

1. Respect the Gaia ToS.
2. Literacy, please. At least a several sentences per post. Give people something to respond to, and make it detailed. This is supposed to be almost like writing a story, after all.
3. When in doubt, ask me. If there's anything you'd like to know about storyline, the world, characters, or details, talk to me! I'm trying to make this as complete and cohesive as possible, and eliminate confusions between different impressions of the world. The roleplay will be better for everyone if we understand the place it's in.
4. About posts: Proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation, obviously. I don't mind if you leave your post plain, or decorate it a bit, but just try to use colors for your text that aren't too light. I strain my eyes enough as it is.
5. Before you submit a post, hit the little "preview" button to the left of the "submit" one. It's a way for you to check and see if anyone has posted since you started writing your response- Just look in the recent posts section. If someone has posted, edit your post so it fits in. We don't need confusion in responses. It's also a bit of time for you to catch mistakes or typos.
6. No Cybering. Relationships are fine, and all sexual orientations are accepted, but don't take it too far. And also, this roleplay is realistic. Just because one character has a crush on someone doesn't mean they're liked back. Make it interesting.
7. If you're leaving the RP, or going away for a while, tell everyone, then work an excuse into the roleplay! We don't want characters disappearing suddenly for no reason. Give them an injury, or have them sent off on some task for the Company like buying supplies.
8. Respect other roleplayers. Just because your characters might not get along doesn't mean you should dislike a person.
9. Interaction between roleplayers outside of the roleplay is encouraged. Talk to people! Figure out a little bit of a plotline to insert into the roleplay, or just chat about nothing important. I would love to see it if you guys would come up with something interesting to happen.
10. No killing other people's characters without permission. If they want their character to die, they can say so.

Notes on the Roleplay
About the world of Battlecry

This is basically a description of the world. The roleplay is medieval fantasy, just so we’re clear. That means that there will be magic, but not advanced technology. It also means that there are different races available to be. Don’t go overboard with that, but the option to be nonhuman is available.

Magic in this world is odd, so please pay attention to this! Mages in this world are born with the ability to do magic. It is obvious that they have the ability, because mages have a glow to their eyes, and occasionally even have slitted pupils. To use magic, they draw an image of abstract symbols in the air, with their hands, and using their own energies. The image sets off the spell. For each mage, the image they draw to do a spell is different, so it is hard to tell what a person is trying to do until they do it. Through this method, one mage can accomplish all manners of spells, instead of just a certain category of them.

Healing is a bit different, but has the same principal. Healers are mages, but they have an additional ability, to use the energy of the earth around them. To heal, they will “draw” around the wound of their patient, or where a sickness is concentrated. Healing cannot instantly repair hurts, but it speeds up the healing process quite a bit.

In a hard world like this one, people grow up more quickly. The Company may recruit young members occasionally (perhaps about 16,) but at that time, they are counted as adults, and generally act as such.

Accepted Profiles
The Mercenaries of the Crimson Company

Username: darkestmoonbird
Name: Night Awaura
Nickname(s): None.
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 26
Birthday: December First
Rank: Captain
Specialty: Foot soldier
Weapon: A long sword that he almost always has with him, and a shield that he only takes to some battles.
Personality: Night is pretty soft-spoken for a mercenary. He is gentle and kind to those who come under his command, and tends to take newcomers under his wing. He takes his job and his orders seriously, and he won’t stand for anyone mouthing off to, or speaking badly about, their superiors. Night can seem distant, and sometimes shy, but it tends to be that his quiet demeanor comes off that way.
History: When Night first joined the Crimson Company, he was eighteen, and trained only in a nobleman’s swordfighting style. He got a bit torn up before he realized that no one was going to do an even one-on-one fight in the middle of a war. Once he had learned how to protect himself properly, he showed himself to be a good fighter with a calm head. He’s a Captain because he’s good at thinking on his feet, but he doesn’t have the charisma for a higher position.
Appearance: Night’s hair is a dark brown that can almost appear gray in the right light. He keeps it short, but he has bangs in the front that cover his forehead, and frame his face. It’s usually ruffled. His eyes are amber. He’s solidly built, and just a hair under average height. His skin isn’t pale, but it isn’t tanned, either.
Night almost always wears his fighting clothes, though he has dressed up once or twice. Black-dyed leathers, with a red tabard over them, the basic uniform of Crimson Company. His captain’s insignia is worn on his left shoulder, and he wears heavy boots and gloves.
Other: Under his gloves, Night has a lot of small scars on his hands. When asked about them, he usually blushes and doesn’t answer.

Username: LadyLeFay
Name: Siham Al-Jiwari
Nickname(s): Al, Si, Siham, Jiwari
Race: Desert Elf
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Birthday: May first
Rank: Captain
Specialty: Magecraft
Weapon: Magic, and a set of short curved knives, a symbol of her home village.
Personality: Siham is a very serious girl, but also very soft when it comes to the people she loves. She's always eager to prove herself on the battlefield, because she's young for a captain and knows it. She also knows that most of the people she commands won't listen until she proves herself a competent warrior and a capable leader.
History: Siham was trained ever since she was a little girl in the ways of magecraft, in both binding and breaking, in growth and destruction. Since she joined the Crimson Company, her skill has only increased, to the point where she was nearly unrivaled in skill, even at the tender age of 17. She's a captain because of her skills and her innate ability to think on her feet.
Appearance: Siham's hair is long and pale blond, left long and wild. Her skin is a deep tan, as all of her people are. Her eyes are a soft gold, with slitted pupils. Her body is slim and athletic, speaking to her years of practice. She wears the uniform of all mages of The Crimson Company, a crimson tunic and loose brown pants, with short boots.
Other: Siham has a small wooden flute that she plays religiously every night, and never talks about her home village unless very, very drunk. If anyone asks her while she's sober, she'll ignore them or glare at them until they go away.

History: She was taken to the company by her father, who was a master swordsman. He was killed by the enemy, which led to her anger problems. Her mother died in childbirth with no siblings.
Appearance: Long black hair, strange armor, dark eyes, petite, 5'6 ish, slender.

Personality: His mind is allways set on research. He often times accidently endangers the mission in an atempt to gain valuable resources.

Their contract was with the general of Plith's Army. Thanks to the briefing, Night knew a few details of it- it was apparently a civil war, which meant the fighting was probably not going to cover much distance. That meant that there wasn't going to be a lot of traveling, which suited him just fine. Foot soldiers had to march everywhere, and it wasn't at all pleasant. Mercenaries tended to have to travel around a battlefield, since they went where they were needed. Crimson Company did a lot of that, since it had so many specialized groups.

The briefing hadn't taken all that long, and they would be leaving the next day. Instead of heading to his quarters to get his things ready, Night watched the people streaming past him, waiting to see his squad, and some of the other Company members that he knew. He stood just beyond the gate of the training area where the Company had just heard about their latest job, and watched for familiar faces.

Siham walked out of the meeting calmly, muttering softly under her breath. Great. Civil wars were always the worst to deal with. Houses divided, brothers facing brothers on the battlefield. It was too close to the Blood Wars at home. At least they'd ended when she was young, or she would have ended up as maimed and broken as her father. Siham shielded her eyes, and smiled when she saw Night leaning against the gate. Night was a good man, probably one of the best she knew, and always willing to spare a minute for conversation, at least with people he liked. "Night!" She cried, waving brightly when he looked her way.

At the sound of someone calling his name, Night glanced up to see Siham coming toward the gate. He raised his hand in recognition, and waited until she had approached to speak. "Siham," he said in return, with a nod at her. He gave the younger girl a small smile. "So, what do you think of our first job of the season?" he asked, gesturing back toward the training area where they had just been given their orders and instructions.

Kni walked slowly through the crowd, trying to find his friends. He hated being short, it just made things harder. His large, stone gauntlet glowed in the evening sun. One of the crystals on the device had shattered, leaving it practacly useless. Unable to see his friends past the croud, he pulled the goggles down from his hairless head onto his eyes. He looked around, hoping that the enchantment would be able to locate Night. Incapable of finding his ally, he decided he would return to his tent and talk to the captain later. Kni's tent was huge compared to his small body, making him feel as if he were in a large cabin. He walked over to the spot where his bag lied, dumped it out, and started sorting through the various arcane objects.

Siham sighed and scrubbed at her eyes. "Any work at all is good, but I just hate civil wars, you know?" Her eyes closed as she staved off the swell of images the words brought forth. "Of all types of war, this kind tends to bring out the worst in people. Of all the stupid reasons to go to war, two government officials having a power struggle is the most ridiculous, and I'm damn near sick of it!" Her anger deflated, and Siham smiled at Night apologetically. "I'm sorry Night, I shouldn't yell at you like that. It just makes me so mad!"
PostPosted: Fri Dec 25, 2009 1:17 pm

Night smiled and shrugged easily. "It's all right. I know you weren't yelling at me," he reassured her. "But if you don't like the idea of wars, or civil wars, you should reconsider doing mercenary work. A lot of fights are like that, civil war or not." He absentmindedly tugged at one of his gloves, adjusting it. "Sometimes civil wars can be a good thing. But either way, it's how we are paid."

Siham shrugged. "It depends on the people, and the cause. Right now.........admittedly is probably not the best time for me to be working anyway." Siham rubbed her neck and looked away. "Normally it's not this bad, you know? It's just," Siham's hands twirled nervously. "Right now."

Anami gathered his things and put them in his small, rugged back pack. He needed to talk find somebody that could give him a replacement crystal for his gauntlet. He moved the brown entrance flaps of his ten out of the way as he paced out into the camp. His long, grey ears twitched in the now cold air. He had no idea where he was going to find a new gem, and they were leaving tomorrow, so he didn't have time for a big search. He cringed at the thought of his lesser magic. He needed his glove fixed if he wanted to continue his research. He pulled his goggles down again, this time successfully locating his captain. He began making his way towards the training grounds through the dark, cold camp.

"Well, you could always ask the commander to let you off for this campaign, if you don't want to deal with it," Night said rationally. Most of the rest of the group had already gone to their own quarters in the Crimson Company's base, so Night stepped out into the path, with a gesture for Siham to follow. "Of course, I'd like it if you would come. It's not easy to make new friends in the middle of a fight."
PostPosted: Fri Dec 25, 2009 5:36 pm

Kni walked down the path at a slow pace, still tinkering with his glove. He looked up to see Night walking in the oposite direction. "Night, I need to talk to . . ." He hesitated to continue when he noticed Siham. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interupt." He stoped in his place, allowing the two to pass. Siham was still a stranger to him. The only reason he was so comfortable with Night was the fact they had worked so long together. He had seen her spell casting and knew that she was on her way to becoming a great mage, almost as good as him.

Siham smiled gently. The Azura were always so kind and sweet, and Kni was no exception. "No please, walk with us." She turned back to Night. "I'll go, if only for your sake, and the fact that I need to get over myself." She smiled down at Kni, her brow furrowing when she noticed the fractured crystal on his gauntlet. "Oh dear." She murmured, bending down to examine it. "That's not good. Can it be repaired or do you need to replace it, because......" Siham's eyes shut again, trying to stave off the swell of images of Jo-me, and its crests of magical stones. "I might know a place where you could get a new one."
