About the game|Plot Details

You are a human.

To be precise, a teenager.

Brought up in a metropolitan city, you have no clue about what's really going on. Maybe you don't even pay attention to the news. After all, it's 2020. The human population is undergoing its greatest and most spectacular age yet. There are no wars, world hunger is a distant dream, crime rates at a low. It's safe. What could happen?

Your life has been spent idolizing celebrities, going to school... Normal stuff. You're a normal kid too. Maybe slightly better looking than others. Maybe slightly smarter. Slightly different. But things are going to change.

Suddenly, you have been issued a letter of employment to one of the most elite and celebrity visited clubs in the world. The Midnight Reverie.

There must be a mistake.

But you decide to take the chance anyway. Who knows, you could meet one of your favorite celebrities up close!

This really is the chance of a lifetime. Too bad you aren't as prepared as you think.

Welcome to the Midnight Reverie.

You are a vampire.

Warrior of the night, your senses are keen. You are strong, intelligent, and breathtakingly beautiful. Your society has integrated itself with the human society seamlessly, and you are part of the elite of the human society. All of you are. You could be the president of some company, or some famous celebrity, or maybe part of the old money aristocrats.

Every year, you're invited to the ball at the most prestigious club in the world. But it's not just any social event. The newest batch of employees to the Midnight Reverie has been chosen, and you can have your pick.

These humans are yours to do as you wish over the year.

Life is good, being a member of the Midnight Reverie.

This is the Midnight Reverie.

The most prestigious club in the world, owned by a vampire and run by him and his partner, a human. Only the most elite of the vampires get membership to this place, and all of them pay extortionate prices to bid for the membership.

About Vampires

Vampires in this game are rather different in some ways from other games, so you may need some of the information here.

What?

Vampires are trapped between the state of life and death. They are not alive, because they do not have a heartbeat, and they do not need to breath (although some may do it out of habit), and they do not require normal food and drink (although they may partake of these if it is their pleasure). They are not dead, because they exhibit most traits of a living creature.

They are not human, although some may have been, and they are therefore not bound to the rules that define normal human boundaries, the rules that make humans who they are. However, they do have emotions, and they do have their own code of conduct, just not as strict as those that govern humanity.

Where?

Vampires first came about, quite simply as a different evolution of homo sapiens, rather like how humans evolved differently from neanderthals. The first vampires were savage creatures, that predated on animals and humans.

As humanity swelled and spread, vampires switched their diets to one consisting purely of human blood, as it was easy to predate on something that did not fight back as much as say... a wolf or a deer.

with a diet exclusively consisting of human blood, the vampires also evolved at a similar pace to humans, if not slightly faster. The end result was the modern vampire. One that could blend with humanity, but was much faster, and much more dangerous.

How?

Vampires can reproduce among themselves, although the chance of having offspring is relatively low compared to humans. Born vampires also suffer from a high mortality rate when young.

Another way of begetting offspring was for a vampire to exchange blood with a human. The vampire blood, when in an environment different from the body which it came from will spontaneously regenerate extremely quickly, and and the white blood cells of the vampire will engulf all human cells, changing the DNA of the human through a process of activating certain genes while deactivating others. This will take up to a day, during which the human will be in agony. The agony will sometimes cause a newly born vampire to be highly feral and to exhibit an extreme strength, until their first feeding.

Born vampires and human vampires are very different in that the born vampires (also known as lamia vampyrs) continue growing until the point where they wish to stop the growth. They do this by voluntarily activating a production of a hormone in their pituitary gland. Born vampires tend to be very fragile when young, but after reaching maturity, they can be as powerful as a human vampire at a 100 years age (assuming age to start at 0 upon change).

About Vampires- Part II

Psychology

A human vampire possesses all their memories of their human lives. However, with the new strength of a vampire, their personalities may change. They may become a complete opposite of who they were, or they may change slightly to adapt to their new lives.

Born vampires, however, were never human, and will obviously never be. They will have learnt human behaviour to blend in, but they will never think like humans. Some may give off an air of being "dangerous" or "one of the bad crowd", others may be seen as "insane and beyond control".

Physiology

Born and human vampires share the same physiology.

1) Vampires are faster and stronger than humans and most animals. This is due to their role in the food chain as a predator.

2) As mentioned before, they do not need to breathe. They can do so, and most do it due to habit. Human vampires seem particularly susceptible to being stunned by someone attempting to suffocate them. This trait however, fades with time.

3) They do not have a heartbeat. Their blood does circulate, due to skeletal muscles that constrict vessels and push the blood along. This is so that most animals, with sensitive hearing cannot tell if they are nearby. However, after physical exertion, one may feel a pulse. Because of blood circulation, they can be poisoned, but due to their high metabolism, they usually recover quickly.

4) They generate body heat, but their core body temperature is much lower than a human's, at a mere 30 degrees celcius. This means that they usually feel slightly cooler to the touch.

5) They have fangs. Their fangs are used for puncturing and tearing, and are not hollow, as some believe. Their fangs are retractable, due to a hollow cavity above their canines, and muscles that let the fangs be pulled back.

6) Vampires heal at ten times the rate of a human. They cannot, however, regrow a appendage. If a severed appendage is realigned with the body, however, the wound will knit back like any other cut. This healing can be controlled by a vampire's will.

7) They have no "spark of life", like human beings. Human vampires up to the age of a 100 have traces of this life force. Born vampires do not. The life force is replaced by something else, colloquially known as the "power stream" to vampires. This "power stream", working in conjunction with the brain is what allows vampires to perform feats of psychic power.

cool The vampire immune system kills all known pathogens, viruses and bacteria known to exist. It does it at so quick a rate that there is no chance even of replication of these pathogens, much less any chance of mutation to compromise the host defenses.

9) Vampires have psychic powers. Usually, they only have up to four, but stronger vampires, or vampires who are physically weak may have more. For the former, it is a matter of experience and power to expand their arsenal. For the latter it is a compensation for physical weakness. An exception to the rule are the vampires from the Coven of Fangs. Due to the toll that the shapeshift takes on them, they have maximum two psychic powers, and these two powers are highly undeveloped.

10) Vampires can shapeshift. Only the vampires of the Coven of Fangs can do this, and they only have one form to shapeshift into. These vampires have the psychic ability to reshape their biological form to that of an animal's.

Superhuman Qualities.

1) Vampires are much stronger and faster than humans, due to the resilience of the muscle cells of the vampire, and the cells' ability to respire at high speeds.

2) As nocturnal creatures, they have colour vision at night. Even in conditions where a human may not see anything, the vampire eye can further dilate to catch all traces of light, although their vision is monochrome in such extreme darkness.

3) They have extremely sharp hearing. Even the sound of heartbeat of a human in a house a 100 metres down the road will sound to them like a drumbeat.

4) Their sense of smell is also enhanced. The olfactory of a vampire is densely packed with receptors. The sense of smell of a vampire is more than enough to rival a bloodhound's.

5) Vampires age at a much slower rate than humans, unless damaged. Their cells contain telomerase, which allows the telomere to regenerate, stopping the DNA from degeneration.

Things that will harm a vampire
1) Direct sunlight, or UV rays. Due to their nocturnal habits, vampire skin is extremely sensitive to UV rays, and will be burnt, developing anything from blisters to charring, depending on the length of exposure.

2) Fire. Vampires, like all creatures will combust. Depending on the age of the vampire, combustion can take anywhere from hours to weeks, assuming a constant temperature.

3) Poisons and Toxins. They will harm a vampire, but not kill it. Depending on the strength of the substance, they can cause a vampire to vomit, or to become paralysed and wracked in pain.

4) Silver. Most, if not all of vampires are highly sensitive to silver. The effect of touching a silver item is similar to being branded like a cow. Silver also blocks the hormones in a vampire's body, resulting in a much slower healing time. Silver can and will kill a vampire in high doses.

5) Decapitation. The rule of reattaching a severed appendage does not work on the head, much to the chagrin of many dead vampires.

Things that will not seriously harm a vampire (unless said vampire laughed themselves to death)
1) Stake to the heart. Yes, it will hurt, but once the vampire pulls it out, it will heal in minutes.

2) Crosses and other religious paraphernalia. It has no effect on a vampire at all, aside from making them snort with disbelief or burst into laughter.
